Great location and helpful staff
The Ponce de Leon hotel is in the middle of downtown St. Petersburg - walking distance to shops, resturants. the Dali and parks. The room was simple but comfortable. The shower could have used a place to put the soap. The staff was extremely helpful. One added plus - restaurant and bar next door - great live music. There is also a small wine bistro on the other side, that used to open early for breakfast - unfortunately did not open until 10:00am. I was really looking forward to the coffee and quiche for breakfast.

Great location, ugly rooms...
The room wasn't cozy. The bed was very hard, the courtains didn't work, they have very old tvs and there wasn't hot water...

Great Location with friendly staff
I live on the FL east coast and wanted to see a Tampa Rays game and memorial day weekend the Indians were in town. We stayed at the Ponce because I liked the location and the price was right for the holiday weekend($100). I travel to NYC on business often so I am accustom to a small room and a $325 per night rate. It was also a hotel where you can park your car and not need it until you leave. When we checked in the staff was waiting for us since I booked two rooms and one with two beds for my brother his wife and 10 year old. The rooms were a little smaller than mid size but as expected and clean. Our rooms had a mid sized fridge and microwave while my brother's had a couch/murphy bed which was perfect for my 10yr old nephew. Before the game we walked to the pier and had nice causal lunch outside. The stadium is a little over a mile from the hotel however, one block away the city has a parking garage that has a free shuttle service to and from the stadium. After the game we went back to the pier and had a nice meal at the Columbia restaurant. For us it was a great three hour getaway to see a baseball game and have some good food with family. The Ponce is where I will stay again on my next visit to a Rays game.

Short walk from hotel
The pier has two nice restaurants -- Cha Cha coconuts which has outdoor setting and is casual and Columbia which is more upscale. The hotel Restaurant Ceviche (tapas style) is very good as well. In the hotel lobby you will find a local map that has listing of things to do ā in here you will find a coupon for a free sangria. I only found this on my way out of town after we had several at the bar the night before.

Don't do it!
On line this hotel looked quaint, with a flare of the town since it wasn't a chain. After this, my second non-chain hotel in 5 monts, I wont book ever again with someone I don't know. There were stains on the blanket, sheets and towels. There was no room in the bathroom and the sink was only a basin. The hallways smelled awful (and others were commenting on this ... So it wasn't just my pregnant good sense of smell). If you didn't have the air conditioning unit (not central) on high, the smell entered your room. Upon telling them about the linens and asking that everything be changed including the blanket, when we got back the blanket was the same as was one of the stained towels I didn't use. On our way out a roach ran by us in the lobby stairs. We were so uncomfortable we left early not caring about the $100 plus dollars we threw out. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone! Overpriced and awful!

Quaint, cute place!
We took a quick trip from Louisville to St. Pete to watch Univ. of Lou. play in the Beef O Brady Bowl. The hotel is in a good location, close to the stadium, in the center of St. Pete. Parking was 3 blocks away. My husband said he saw bugs in the room while I was sleeping. But he didn't tell me until we left because I really loved this place. Small room, friendly staff-reminded me of the Spanish hotels we stayed in while in Madrid.

Good variety of restaurants, but we loved the Irish pub/restaurant called Crowleys. Also, reasonably priced drinks at the Cigar Shoppe. All within walking distance from the hotel.

Small Space
Friendly service, but very old hotel with small and noisy rooms. Room had a murphy bed, not very comfortable since I am 6 foot 5. TV had bad reception and was a 19 inch Tv from 1990. Great location for the area atractions, was there for a baseball game. Would not stay at hotel again.
