Try another hotel
The hotel food and bars are very expensive. You are somewhat landlocked and you have no place to go for breakfast, coffee etc. if you use their facilities, it is excessively expensive. if you try and drive off the hotel grounds, the local vendors are not appealing. This hotel was developed in an area that was previously a locals beach. There are several greasy spoons, but in order to eat in the local area...not good. Given the economy, that may not improve for awhile. I had kids with me, and the additional costs of things like beach chairs, food etc got out of hand. I had a dispute on my bill that was inconsequential (~$75). I went to the front desk and documented it to them. The front desk clerk told me that she was not authorized to issue a refund even though it was very well documented. She gave me the name of the person that I should call. I called for several days in a row and did not receive a response. I get the impression that they are in a bit of financial duress, and I think they will be forced to charge a lot for things that are usually cheap or free. We paid $20 for a beach chair for 2 hours. The reason I bring this up is that these sorts of problems are common, but the way the hotel deals with them often tell a lot about how they are doing. They bought this complex at a very high price, and they need to squeeze every dollar out to stay afloat. This does not make for a good travel deal. The hotel is nice, but the rooms are very old and poorly cleaned. The locks are broken on the sliding glass doors. Not anything huge, but certainly not indicative of the cost of the hotel. If you dont want to overspend at a hotel, this is not your spot. There are 100's of other places in Tampa that are a far better bargain. They put a great hotel in a really bad location. Try somewhere else.

Below Average Florida
HIgh prices--great beach, poor service, high food prices, NOISY. Charge $ 25 per day resort fee, and still charge a dollar a page to print computer pages.

long weekend getaway
when I checked in I was told of a $25 fee, which I found at at checkout is a daily amenities fee. The only amenity I used was parking. Because I was not told the fee was daily when I checked in, they accomodated the daily fee. Very nice. On the other hand, my room with a "courtyard" view overlooked the parking garage. The entrance to the room (which was so small) is on a catwalk. The only window in the room opened onto the catwalk. A lovely view and a bit noisy. All of the amenities are in a sister hotel down the street.

just ok
had a party to attend at the Don Ceasar. Wanted to go a little less expensive, so we chose the Tradwinds Sandpiper. The room was ok, but there were lip marks on the closet mirror, like someone kissed the mirror. The rest of the room seemed fine, but made me wonder what else was not really cleaned.

UNREASONABLE RESORT FEES
Although I arrived 2hours before check-in and aware of hotel policies, I found this hotel to be particularly unhelpful and uncaring. I along with several others in the hotel were attending a birthday luncheon at 11:30am which is why I drove to Tampa so early. Being that we drove, we needed to freshen up and unfortunately iron our dress. I couldn't believe how unhelpful the front desk was. I was told that there weren't any rooms nor a "pool house/room" where we could shower or change. A hotel on the beach with a pool and no pool room...how unbelievable and unaccommodating. I was very surprised that there wasn't anything like this here. At that point we were told there was a bathroom upstairs we could use. I asked for an iron and was told that they didn't have any spares for us to use...how unbelievable. All we wanted was to borrow it for a few minutes even one from a room they were presently cleaning, but once again we were turned away. Then there was the resort fee that I was unaware of. I tend to and will always stay away from this type of hotel as I firmly believe in paying for what I use. Once again, I arrived at 9am and walked around the area until 10am then used the bathroom to change my clothes and freshen up with a paper towel. I attended the luncheon/gathering from 11:30am to 3:30pm. I returned only to nap and leave again at 7pm and return at 10pm. At this time I slept to wake up the next morning and depart the premises at 11am. So tell me, when did I have time to use this "resort fee". I spent a total of 16hours in this hotel primarily sleeping which I explained to the front desk clerk and she wouldn't even make a one time exception in my case. I call this poor customer service. Now that I think about it, Spirit Airlines has the right game plan in place, pay for what you use and you will end up saving a lot of money in the long run....and return to the place of business that made you happy.

Great Views, Good Service,$25/Day Fee
Had Gulf front "suite" that was updated. Preferred king bed but had only 2 doubles. Kitchenette had some supplies but no wine opener. :-) The views were spectacular and the staff very friendly. Requested they fix a slow drain in shower and never happened. This is a great location but St Pete Beach is seedy and old but the beach was beautiful and the hotel and pool was up to date and comfortable. The sister hotel a block away where you can visit is much larger and not as quiet. They charge a daily activity fee, but we didn't need or use the facilities, so probably wouldn't return

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Desota Park, magnificent beach, one of the best in US.Travel south on Gulf Blvd about 2.5 miles past the Don Cesar onto a small peninsula and you can find bay side a couple of local small restaurant/bars where the locals hang out. Inexpensive beer and interesting patrons.

Above average for a beach hotel
It was nice, more of a party atmospere, but I think there was an attempt to cater to all of people's needs without being great at any one category.

Depending on what you're looking for, it's either in hotel, a short walk or a long walk. There is an amazing Latin restaraunt across the street prices are reasonable, the food is outstanding!! They also have seating outside and some nights have live artists playing outside.

Weekend get-away
The hotel was beautiful! The front desk and housekeeping were 1st class! The Bermudas restaurant food was not worth the price. The delmonico I ordered was mostly fat and grissle. The Kid-Zone staff were very unpleasant. They did not interact with the children unless the parents had a question. They were very rude when asked to assist with projects. They trap you with a $25 per day "resort fee", which you must pay before check-in. It did not included anything helpful (unless you have a vehicle to park). A mojority of the "kids-zone" activities cost extra. They nickle/dime you to death. It's a nice place to stay if you want to enjoy the beach, but that's it.
