Just Returned
We just returned from a week in St. Pete, staying in this hotel, and decided to post this review of our experience. Hotel in General: While I will agree with most people who say that the rooms are in need in renovation, we found it acceptable for the rates. The front desk staff is extremely friendly, especially Julie. She was incredibly helpful to us and I wish to express our sincerest thanks to her! The lobby of the hotel is very nice and the outside of the hotel is very clean. The pool deck area is beautiful and is a great place to catch a tan (yes, in January) and have a few cocktails. The room we stayed in had a balcony overlooking St. Pete (not the Gulf side), but the view was very nice. Spinners Restaurant: While looking a little outdated, it is very nice and clean. We had dinner there twice and had one of the best steaks I've ever had. The service here was great (thanks Carla!), even offering to box up our leftovers and send us to the room with the rest of our dinner, plus silverware and extra bread sticks. Talk about a great midnight snack! Bongos Bar: My wife and I spent quite a bit of time here. The bar stools are a touch short for the height of the bar, but food there is great! Mixed/frozen drinks there are a touch expensive also, on the order of $8.00 each, but the beer prices are what I would consider normal. As for the staff, well, what can I say? They are all great! Our last day at the hotel we spent with Jason, Suzie, and George. Let me tell you, get these any 2 or 3 of these guys together behind the bar and you'll have a great time! I cannot express enough how fun, entertaining, and attentive they are!! Truly an asset to this hotel. Overall, we had a great time during our stay here and would highly recommend it. No hotel is perfect, but for the price, the Grand Plaza was well worth it!

Nice time in St Pete
We were looking for a place on the beach in St Pete to spend a few days and saw the Grand Plaza after researching other properties in the area. We arrived, were greeted warmly by the front desk attendant, and made our way to our room. The gulf front rooms were booked but our 'side' view room was cozy and had a decent view of the beach and gulf. The beach was pristine and chair rental on the beach was reasonably priced and had an attached cabana shade to deflect some of the wind that is always present. The staff was very nice at the beach bar and pool area. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Location was convenient to restaurants and sundry items.

Cafe Luna is a small independent restaurant that is outstanding. If you want to get away from the loud, family oriented eateries, this place is great. Great wine list and even better chef.

Half & Half Trip
The hotel is old and was renovated and still needs some work. The staff was great, outside bar great, food served upstairs has to come up the elavator to served to you!!!! The downstairs dining was also good and warm for breakfast. The rooms were clean but they give you alot of small hard towels instead of one or two regular soft towels.

Simply terrific!
This was my third stay at Grand Plaza and I'll be back again. The location is top notch for me. Right on a great stretch of beach. From the back pool and lounge area your first step is sand. The location on the beach and easy access to main roads and highways is close to perfect. The hotel itself is big enough to not feel crowded yet small enough so you feel you're not walking forever to locate the lounge, pool, or restaurants. The breakfast and lunch/dinner restaurants were both very good. Spinners has a good selection with reasonable prices. I always find the rooms clean and the staff helpful and friendly. Paying the little extra for at least a partial gulfside view is worth it. Sitting on your private balcony with a fantastic view of the beach is worth the extra bucks. Bottom line: for the location and the relatively reasonable price, this hotel is awesome.

Beach, Beach, Beach --- Wedding ???
Beautiful white sand beaches and wonderful sunsets from our balcony - not to mention weddings, weddings and more weddings. In the 4 days we were there, there were 10 weddings held right under our noses! The staff were very cordial, but we had to ask for the floor to be cleaned after they had already "cleaned" the room that day. We would definitely give them another try, if only for the beaches, beaches, beaches...

Short drive from hotel
"Latitudes" just past John's Pass was a great restaurant. Not pretentious - nor pricey - Just good food. Crab cake sliders for appetizer, a snow crab dinner (one and a half pounds worth) with garlic mashed and coleslaw, and a philly cheese steak sandwich with all the fixings along with a couple ice teas - all for about $40 before tip. Definitely a place to go back to!!!

Great value
This is a decent place to stay, not ultra-luxurious, but clean, well situated on the beach, nice pool, and freindly professional staff. The sunsets on the gulf coast are stunningly beautiful. And Bongo's the Tiki bar on the beach gives free suset shooters every evening when the sun sets.
