The Beachcomber is like an old comfy pair of shoes.
We stayed at the Beachcomber, an older Florida resort, for the first time as part of a package deal we booked at the last minute. This hotel reminds me of a pair of worn comfy shoes, the tops look good but the soles need to be replaced. It sits in the middle of Gulf Blvd. located near everything you need for a great vacation on St. Pete Beach. Our "Super Saver" room was small, flooring and furniture old,but the beds were surprisingly comfortable.A mini fridge kept blowing the surge protector, they finally replaced the extension cord. The air conditioner was noisy and I could see dirt and mold in the unit; an older TV was not great viewing and had reception issues on some channels especially HBO. I would rate the hotel rooms at 2 stars, but who stays in the room except to sleep when the grounds and beach are indescribably beautiful. The hotel is home to two popular bars, one inside one out, that serve lunch and dinner from the same kitchen. The ringing of the bicycle bell was always in the background as servers rode back and forth. The waitstaff was excellent but I can't say as much for the food. It was mediocre at best and beverages were expensive for the amount and quality of liquor used. Two bands play daily at the outside venue and tables are set out around the bar and pool if you want to listen at a distance. Two concerns, it was obvious that this is a popular place, day and night. The language being used by customers and the intoxicated people leaving the establishment were not appropriate tourist attractions for children especially on the weekend, but it made for great people watching! My only complaints? The Beachcomber has two heated pools and both were so hot on mid 80's days that it was impossible to be in either one after noon. The other were electrical problems that caused the hotel to serve guests with the notice that they would be without electricity less than 24 hours before the turn off. It was the day before we were scheduled to leave and I had to change my plans so we did not end up with spoiled food! Our compliments to the staff of this hotel from the front desk, housekeeper, and groundskeepers who were so very accommodating, friendly and helpful. They do a great job of keeping the "old shoe" looking polished. We have vacationed on St.Pete off and on for over 15 years and love the area. The positives outweigh the negatives at the Beachcomber, it is a good place to stay when you are craving the beach and is centrally located near an abundance of restaurants, shopping, and lots and lots of activity and entertainment.

There is a new business that provides rides from Passe-a-Grille to John's Pass in a 6 seat customized electric cart. The best part is that he works only for tips! Great way to go anywhere!

Good, but not fantastic!
The location is good... Trolley stop right across the street as well as a 7-11 for small stuff that you might want or need. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. 2 restaurants within the resort (same menu)... one's a beach bar and another is a sports bar. The staff... from front desk, groundskeepers, maids and wait staff were fantastic... very helpful and friendly and good at what they are there for. The one negative, which they fixed, was the first night we had an infestation of little bitty ants, which we discovered right before bedtime... so we didn't do anything about it then (first night). In the morning I went to the front desk and they apologized profusely and then as we left for the day, they moved our bags to another room (when vacated). Upon arrival back to the resort later in the day, they gave us a $25.00 gift certificate to be used at either bar/restaurant. Actually, the layout of the 2nd room was much better than the first. We loved the garden view and beautiful landscaping. The view from the beach bar was great, however we never got in the pool as it was a bit cold when we were there, so I can't say whether it was good or not. Wish they had a hot tub though! Would I go back? I may... not sure!

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you're going to watch any beachwear, t-shirts or souvenirs... the best selection and prices, by far, are at Wings... a short walk north of the resort... and also Larry's Ice Cream... great ice cream choices and delicious desserts!

Love this Hotel
I have been coming to St Pete Beach for the past 14 years and have stayed at many hotels. The Beachcomber is the only place I stay now. Its far from a 5 star hotel, but its perfect for those who aren't spending all their time in their room, which who does when on vacation. The location is the best, right on the beach! The grounds are beautiful. The staff is wonderful and polite and immediately respond to any requests. They also have the #1 voted "Best Beach Bar in Florida"! The Beachcomber is definately my favorite St Pete Beach hotel!

Nice, but noisy
Nice hotel, but noisy due to the live bands every night, and the bar at beachside. Could also hear people in next room. Beautiful setting right on the beach. Room did not feel clean. My white socks got dirty walking in there. Front desk staff not friendly. A smile and some kind words would be nice.

Beached Comber
Lacking features but has a great beach
negatives= 1. Bathroom and kitchen had no receptacles.. There was no receptacle for the coffepot on either countertop. Microwave was plugged into a hole in the counter. 2. We removed the bed covers during our stay. 3. We required bedside 120 v receptacle for CPAP breathing device. Outlets were worn out, broken, unworkable and alarm clock would not stay on. 4. Door frames were steel and had holes rusted through them at their base in the bathroom. Dining room table had a power strip screwed to the wall and was power for entire kitchen. It was a very amateur setup. Wi-Fi had degraded signal. (I have pictures of these featureless areas if interested.) 5. Curtains did not provide adequate coverage for privacy. Parking for roomms & bar were visible while I lay in bed. 6. Air Conditioner was noisier than expected. 7. Side parking was difficult. Angled parking, narrow drive made it difficult to turn around with no other exit. 8. Price of room did not reflect lack of amenities. 9. Bathroom was very small. Toilet seat was loose while countertop required the user to lean forward. Toilet had a flusher that ran for over a minute like the ones you'd see in public gas station. It was so noisy, I could hear the neighbor flush. He/she had one too. It had a beautiful beach. Nice older swimming pools. Room had an electric stove but I don't know what you'd cook with two coffee cups. Maybe a fish off the beach.

Great Girl's Getaway
I just loved this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location right on the beach. There is a 7-11 right across the street and a few stores within walking distance from the hotel. We didnt have a car and everything we needed was within walking distance. Nice area for families. The bar/restuarant had great nightly local entertainment. Good food/drinks. The beaches are just amazingly beautiful with white sands and lots of seashells to collect. I would definately recommend this hotel!!

A Pleasant Getaway
We arrived early afternoon during the week. To our amazement received a room upgrade at no additional cost due to the great weather and occupancy. The rooms were clean and the staff did a great job. The court yard is pleasant to walk to your room and main office. Entertainment drew a younger group on the weekend but well behaved for the most part. Over all a good base to work from and enjoy the beach.
