Nothing awful, nothing great either

Decently priced average hotel on the A1A beach blvd strip, close to lots of food places and grocery stores and shopping. The only real complaint I have is the paper thin walls, you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on in the surrounding rooms, our neighbors stayed up all night talking and laughing then woke up every morning at 6 or 7 a.m. being just as loud. The staff was very nice and didn't barge in to our oom at ten o clock ever morning like some hotels do.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel itself does not have beach access, there is however, a public walkway near the hotel, it takes about 5 minutes to walk to the boardwalk then 5 or so minutes to walk down it to the beach. There are also a few lots for public parking a few minutes away, if you wanted to avoid all the walking, although they are more crowded than the boardwalk area.

The Bad, The Horrible and The Ugly

If anyone is seriously considering a stay at this hotel let me be the first to warn you. You will have very rude Middle Eastern woman wake you up each morning at 8am even if you have a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door. You will have a lobby attendent who refuses to answer the phone. You will have every person who works at this establishment talk to you as if you were a 5 year old child. So enjoy your trip, I have faith that it will be the worst experience of your life. The entire place wreaks of curry powder and sewage, the smell is so bad we had to check out early.

Don't stay at this inhospitable motel

Even a cheap motel ought to be part of the hospitality industry - it costs no more to adopt a service-oriented attitude. The proprietors of the St. Augustine Island Inn display such disdain for their customers it is clear they are running an establishment that they themselves would not frequent. My room smelled of mold and mildew, and they refused (rudely) to move me. Housekeeping did not service my room, and when I went to the desk to ask for clean towels I was forced to return to my second floor room and fetch the used ones first. The older woman who seems to run the place was so rude to me in front of my 6-year-old granddaughter that she was traumatized - and is still talking about the scary mean woman at the hotel. They seem especially upset that their guests require linens - I met another customer who was treated with a similar nasty attitude over sheets, and heard that another guest was charged for towels that they brought back dirty from the beach.
