I had my family vacation with my husband and children. We understood that the town was old, and the buildings - including this hotel - are old as well. With that info in mind I was pleased with everything! Room was clean, staff was wonderful, pool area was clean and friendly, and being right on the beach was a GREAT thing for my children. They loved it. I would stay here again!!

The location was close to the beach and just a short walk. Service at the restaurant was slow but at par with service with restaurants in surrounding area. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful.

Right on the ocean.

We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony. The hotel is very old and the rooms need quite a bit of repairs, but they were clean. We spend very little time in our room, so for the perfect area that the hotel was in it was an OK place to stay. .

Three Star Hotel on its Best Day

I'm a positive guy so I will start off with the positives stuff this hotel offers. We arrived and the hotel staff was very courteous. I was scared by the other reviews but I received nothing but good customer service. Everyone I talked to was helpful and polite. We arrived on time and checked in at 4PM and our room was ready. The Hotel is right on the beach. It has a nice sized pool and a pool bar. Its about four miles from downtown St. Augustine and its on the trolley beach bus route. So if you purchase a trolley ticket they have a shuttle running at regular intervals into the historic downtown area. With all this good stuff going for this hotel its a shame I can't rate it any higher. This hotel was built in the eighties and its showing its age. The best way I can describe this hotel is "beat up" and worn out. Its the attention to details that is lacking in this hotel. The hotel lobby is drab and the paint scheme is drab. The carpeting seems like its been there forever. The sidewalks outside the rooms are always wet from the dripping air conditioners. The room we stayed in was the same shape. The carpet looked like it had been there since the eighties. The bed skirt on the bed was torn. There was a hole on the bottom of the bathroom door that seems like no one ever bothered to fix. The towels were so rough it felt like you were drying yourself with sandpaper. The door to balcony was a steel security with a lot of rust around the edges. And although our room was clean the balcony was filthy. We had a partial view of the ocean but we couldn't enjoy it because the lawn chairs were dirty. I know this isn't the ritz but I shouldn't have to clean anything in room. We only stood there for two nights and since the majority of the room was clean we didn't complain. Besides we we're not the complaining type and I gave us a good excuse not to spend too much time in the room. We spent most of our time on the beautiful beach or in historic downtown St. Augustine. The pool is nice but usually full of children as you would expect. So like I said this hotel is Three Star at its very best. I can't recommend this hotel because although I was able to tolerate my room and my stay here, I don't think I would have a very pleasant experience the second time around. I honestly feel like I got lucky this time. And for the price you pay its not a good value at all.

Great Beach Location

Had a great time. Checked in early and they upgraded room. Rooms were a little old but we noticed that they were renovating. View of the beach was beautiful, tiki bar next to pool was great, and after arriving we said we should have stayed here the whole vacation.

For those people who like to look for shells on the beach, this beach is not for you. We didn't find one shell for keepsake. Great for a sun bather!

Old, dirty, rundown, and obsolete

Our room looked as though the walls and ceiling were melting; we assumed water damage but were told the room was just old. The AC went out on the first night however to their credit they replaced the entire AC unit the next day. The room smelled bad; required a half a can of Fabreeze in the air and on the rug. The rug left our socks and bare feet dirty; a condition not easily remedied by the shower whose softened water left us slimy, at best. The towel holder fell off of the bathroom wall three times while we were there, the third time prompting an exchange with the hotel manager during which we were told that because we didn’t book directly with the hotel we were given a “basic” room. He offered to move us to another room but by then we only had two nights left and it wasn’t worth the hassle of packing and unpacking. The Wifi caused some sort of virus in our laptop that could only be remedied by doing a system restore to a point prior to our stay so that mercifully at least the laptop could forget the entire trip. This hotel also has what I am sure must be the last employment of CRT televisions. In short it is old, dirty, rundown, and obsolete; we will never be back.

Good location

The hotel is older, and the doors slam, so if you sleep lightly you might consider bringing ear plugs. The towels are worn and scratchy, but the bed linens were newer and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful, except for one night clerk who was a bit grumpy. Location is good, bathroom was clean and functional, although it was a bit odd because there's no exhaust fan to clear out the moisture, so you have to use the mirror in the room to get ready after showering.
