Horror Nights Vacation

The hotel was nice. Had a lush tropical feel to it. Nice size rooms and a decent shower. The pillows sucked but other than that it was pretty much what you would expect from a nice hotel. The location is great for the Studios which are a convenient boat ride away that runs very often. We never waited long for the boat. Wi-fi was complimentary but slow. They had water in the room for $7.00 a bottle but did have a Keurig for coffee. So all depends on what is important to you. I was happy with my stay. I have no comments on the staff because I barely interacted with any other than checking in.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Universal opens earlier than an hour early for hotel guest. If you are going to Halloween horror nights you can stay in the park and get to the haunted houses earlier than the public and avoid the metal detectors at the main gate. This is a big plus because it get's packed. Thursday was worse than Friday for lines due to the cheaper Express Pass. They let the entire express line go before anyone buying an average ticket so if you want to get it all in I would advise either a Frequent Fear ticket or Fast Pass. (you get one for the regular park staying onsite but not for HHN.

Not as good as last time

Not very good this time, staff were appalling and really not worth club level either, don't waste your money. Was not impressed with the level of staff at all this time. I went last year and it was 100 better.

Beautiful & clean hotel, but overpriced

The hotel was gorgeous, very clean and extremely convenient for visiting the two Universal parks. The extra hour in the morning was great and it was very easy to get your photo pass or get assistance on the parks. The pool was also really nice and the kids truly enjoyed it. However, there are very few amenities at the hotel they don't charge you for. For example, coffee in the lobby is $3.50 a cup, having a fridge in your room costs $15/day, parking is $20/day, kids meals were $12 a plate, etc... The schedule of kids events was very limited and they didn't always happen as planned. One night the staff forgot to show up to set up the kids movie night. Another day the pool staff ran the pool games a couple hour later then the schedule. It was beautiful and a comfortable place to stay but it was very overpriced.

Universal Studios vacation

I chose this hotel to have the express passes. I would definitely say the fast passes were worth the money spent at this hotel. Bathrooms were small and not as clean. I had to clean the tub before I showered. Everything cost you..27.00 to valet park or 20.00 to park yourself. 7.00 for a bottle of water. Hit up Target or Walmart for your drinks and snacks and be willing to clean your tub, the express passes are worth it.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Emerils restaurant was great. Get your free appetizer with your universal ticket. Happy hour at pool is also a deal.

Pricy with great extras

Hotel is good but not fantastic. Meals, drinks etc are pricy but wat hit us was the car parking charges a whopping $16 PER DAY - it can also be very busy which means it becomes very difficult to find a space other than the overflow car park (which is a "walk" away from reception). However the "fast track" passes to Universal and the "1 hour before opening" deal into the parks compensate somewhat

Family Vacation - June 2014

The location of the hotel cannot be beat. Our room was not the best due to musty smell and noisy neighbors. We had to call security twice the first night we were there. We could have complained about smell and possibly been moved to a different room but just dealt with it. Will try one of the other properties next time.

No issues great beds

Pulled up to friendly valet who watched vehicle while we checked in. Room was ready upon check in at 2pm. Self parking lot a short easy walk and I felt the $18 parking fee was very reasonable. Standard room larger than studio villa at animal kingdom lodge and beds, pillows, furnishings, bedding a definite huge step up compared to disney deluxe property. Asked and was granted a 12:30 checkout which was nice for early IOA access. We didn't eat at hotel restaurants but did lay by the pool after checkout, ate lunch poolside with good food and service and very reasonable prices. There is a fitness center stocked with all necessities needed to get ready prior to late flight. Left hotel parking lot at 3:30 pm and had car rental turned in by 3:55 pm at airport. Don't forget to keep room key as its needed to exit parking lot. Cheeptickets with a discount code provided 20% savings but did not receive "you first " loyalty program credit for stay due to 3rd party site booking. Their version of pog juice is tasty and on offer in lobby area along with iced fruit flavored water in lobby and by pool. Definitely worth extra cost to stay here if trying to get everything done with no lines for US and IOA but even if this was not an option it's still a four star hotel vs disney deluxe property which has the excellent themed public areas but three star rooms.
