South Beach boutique hotel glamour on a budget with free cocktail hour

This Collins Avenue hotel successfully spins Miami grandeur with its sparkly chandeliers and French-inspired furniture. But the hotel has a secret:  The Whitelaw Hotel caters to travelers on a budget. Even more delicious are the add-ons such as shuttle service to and from Miami International Airport, passes to local clubs and a free cocktail hour every night. The hotel is within walking distance to the beach and chic Collins Avenue.

Highlights
  • On chic Collins Avenue just a few blocks from clubs, shops and restaurants
  • Shuttle to and from Miami International Airport
  • Passes to local nightclubs
  • Free happy hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Jiminy Cricket restaurant serving light bites
Rooms

Rooms are big on visual pop -- as are the graffiti-inspired hallways that lead to them. The Whitelaw Hotel's rooms juxtapose stark white linens and tufted headboards with fuchsia walls. White chandeliers add an extra dose of opulence. Marble bathrooms stock pampering products. LCTVs and stereos with iPod docking stations are standard. South Beach guests might appreciate one more convenience: the fully stocked mini bar.

Entertainment

If a French courtesan took residence in modern day South Beach, she would be at home here. The lobby glistens with crystal chandeliers underneath black-and-white damask dome ceilings. The lobby hosts a free happy hour every night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ask about the nightclub passes at the front desk.

Dining

The on-site Jiminy Cricket cafe fuels beachgoers with light bites from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Items on the menu include panini, salads, sandwiches and toasted bread with Nutella, a signature breakfast item.

Needs improvement!

My experience with Whitelaw Hotel was just ok. Some of the staff at the front desk were rude but decent. I believe they need a better housekeeping service because they do not replenish the towels and wash clothes as they should. And you have to go to another hotel for the free shuttle service. They did not tell me I have to pay a deposit until I got there and is taking forever to return and that doesn't include the resort fee.

Great location & Overall Good Experience

Booked the hotel during the drive down from Orlando to Miami for a great price for LDW. Nice, bright looking boutique hotel, just as shown on pics; well kept. Greeted well and the room is what you could expect from pics and for the price and "small boutique style". Great location! Nice and fun ambiance in the lobby for the noscturnal hours and not too loud in the rooms if you want to sleep. It is SoBe after all, so when you get back from the long day, just hang at the bar and chill to some beats. I was w/ my fmily (including a 60 yr old and she enjoyed the stay). The elevator is tiny but you can request the bellboy to get your luggage to your room if not offered. And there's a complimentary HappyHour from 7-8pm to get your evening started off right! Would definitely go back for a stay and recommend is you are on the lookout to get a great value boutique hotel ( cozy, modern, fun & clean).

Unethical

Once we came back to home and after checking travel expenditures on my credit card, I noticed an extra charge from Whitelaw hotel. It is unethical your clerk have not mentioned anything about the charge at that very moment, so we can clarify any misinterpretation right away. And no say just “Everything is fine, you are set to go”.

great value !!!! clean and comfy

went on a cruise and decided to stay a extra day due to a flight problem needed a cheap room but wanted to stay in south beach so I found this place one block west of the beach found a coupon code online and had to book it online to get the best rate $52 +$15 hotel fees and taxes .was concerned it would be a total dump !! BUT WAS I WRONG it was small but very clean very comfy and definitely worth every dime I will stay there again after next cruise. Now remember it is small. rooms are not big but if your looking for a place to rest your head or go for walk on the beach and have a nice meal in south beach this is the place .

Fancy but not functional

The look of this hotel is great. It is very high end and modern however my bathroom was not very functional. The toilet kept getting clogged. The sink area was very small and there was absolutely no storage in the shower. The shower was gorgeous but the water kept spilling out of the shower thus creating a mess on the floor. The staff was very friendly and helpful and responded right away to any problems. I would stay again but definitely keep in mind what it was lacking lacking.

family with teens

let me start off by saying that we love miami, the hotel location is great one street away from ocean drive, the decor rocks, the rooms are so pretty and clean but I suggest you bring your own towels..seems like the towels are counted, it took forever to get clean towels, when they say check in is at 3 they mean it.85$$ at check out..no pool , sun deck closes at 7:30pm..too early. the bar in the lobby is cool and the young epole that work there are awesome like Leon..and one of the desk clerks John is totally cool...we had a good time , nice place but again those towels!!!

A little beach vacation.

Me and my patents stayed there from Monday to Friday. Otherwise everything was very nice but thursday night was crazy. There was no night peace. There was lot of people parting. They where just screaming and being very loud. Couldn't get any sleep. Thank god that we left on Friday!!!

Great location not so great hotel

The location of the hotel was wonderful, however, the hotel it self was not. The floors in the hall ways of the hotel were un-leveled and the bathroom was atrocious. The view from the hotel windows were unstimulating and the noise from the sanitation truck could be heard clearly (very early in the morning).

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Washington Avenue is one avenue over and there you could find food and discount stores. On Collins ave you could enjoy the more fashion forward stores.
