South Beach boutique hotel glamour on a budget with free cocktail hour

This Collins Avenue hotel successfully spins Miami grandeur with its sparkly chandeliers and French-inspired furniture. But the hotel has a secret:  The Whitelaw Hotel caters to travelers on a budget. Even more delicious are the add-ons such as shuttle service to and from Miami International Airport, passes to local clubs and a free cocktail hour every night. The hotel is within walking distance to the beach and chic Collins Avenue.

Highlights
  • On chic Collins Avenue just a few blocks from clubs, shops and restaurants
  • Shuttle to and from Miami International Airport
  • Passes to local nightclubs
  • Free happy hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Jiminy Cricket restaurant serving light bites
Rooms

Rooms are big on visual pop -- as are the graffiti-inspired hallways that lead to them. The Whitelaw Hotel's rooms juxtapose stark white linens and tufted headboards with fuchsia walls. White chandeliers add an extra dose of opulence. Marble bathrooms stock pampering products. LCTVs and stereos with iPod docking stations are standard. South Beach guests might appreciate one more convenience: the fully stocked mini bar.

Entertainment

If a French courtesan took residence in modern day South Beach, she would be at home here. The lobby glistens with crystal chandeliers underneath black-and-white damask dome ceilings. The lobby hosts a free happy hour every night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ask about the nightclub passes at the front desk.

Dining

The on-site Jiminy Cricket cafe fuels beachgoers with light bites from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Items on the menu include panini, salads, sandwiches and toasted bread with Nutella, a signature breakfast item.

"Worth the Price"

Ive been staying here the last past three years and every vacay it seems to go down. My biggest problem with this hotel is they never hav any washcloths. I understand they spread them with the other hotels in their group but thats ridiculous! Overall never had any major problems. Great location and always enjoy HAPPY HOUR

Just OK

The location was GREAT- within walking distance of a ton of shops and restaurants, a block away from the beach. The hotel itself wasn't all that great... it looks very cute but it was pretty noisy. if you stay on the first floor all you can hear is constant party music coming from the bar area. also, our room smelled unpleasant, and sometimes the smell seemed to be coming out of the AC vent. gross! the staff was all really friendly, though, and drinks are free at the bar from 7-8 every day. if you are a party animal, this would be a good place, but for anyone else i wouldn't recommend. overall i was not very impressed

Cute Boutique Hotel

The hotel was nice for the most part but, it was very noisy (d.j. plays for most of day and night) and the bathrooms weren't the best. The location was great as it was one street away from the beach and night life. The resort fee was a joke that really didn't cover much! All in all it was a good stay and the staff was pleasant.

Great location, cute hotel

This hotel plays music constantly in the lobby. If you're staying on the 1st floor, which we were, it sucks! We tried to change rooms but they were not willing to accomodate us. Luckily we were at the end of the hall on the first floor, so this dulled the loud music, but we could still CONSTANTLY hear it. Boo! The room decor was very cute and stylish but you could tell that it is a very old hotel covered up by shottie rennovations. The floor in the hall and the room sank in some places and the bathroom door didn't close all the way. We stayed cause we got a good deal. For the price, I would stay again but specifically request and upper level floor.

I'd go back

The bed was comfortable and the staff was helpful. There's a free happy hour from 7-8 of well liquor drinks and it's for more of a younger crowd. If you're bringing your family down you should find a different place but I will definitely stay here again.

Couples last minute trip

Booked our trip last minute for a great price. The Whitelaw is worth the price. The decor if really cool and ornant. Room was small with awesome decorations. Could have used more plugs and storage. Bathroom was huge but could have used more counter space. It was a handicap shower (we were told they were all the same) and the water went everywhere. We used most of out towels trying to contro the water flow. The hotel is one block from the beach... you cant beat the location. And the free happy hour was a great deal. The cost of alcohol in South Beach is crazy expensive. The free shuttle worked out great too.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Hit up Tap Tap for great Haitian food and killer mojitos. It is off the beaten path and away from the tourist traps.
