A brilliant bombshell of a Miami hotel in the vibrant Art Deco District
This oceanfront boutique hotel brings its own flash in this neighborhood of Art Deco properties. The 200-room property was designed by famed Miami Beach modernist architect Igor B. Polevitzky and makes an impression with its curvy 30-foot high sign and attractive direct oceanfront rooms. Some throwback remnants still remain -- like the fountain by the pool that once doubled as a diving board – but the hotel has kept up with the times. Look for contemporary flair, from poolside DJs to oversized frames of pinup girls.
Highlights
- 1940s Art Deco boutique hotel
- Miami Beach icon that once served as the site of Miss Universe and Miss America pageants
- Indoor and alfresco dining at Terrace Cafe
- DJ-driven poolside events
- Renovated rooms
Rooms
White duvet-topped beds complement rich wood furniture and drapes that open to balconies or windows with partial or full ocean or city views. Framed prints of abstract art mirror the look of the hotel. Suites and a penthouse cater to VIPs, families and executives, with residential amenities such as kitchens and kitchenettes, a washer and dryer (in the penthouse), lounging and dining areas and flatscreen TVs. Wi-Fi can be accessed for an extra fee.
Features
The hotel pays homage to 1940s glamour in its multimillion dollar renovation. The lobby shimmers with its majestic chandelier, marble columns and floor and black-and-white accents. A breezeway reveals hidden banquettes -- perfect for eyeing the scene at the pool. Guests can rent poolside cabanas, a relaxing spot for indulging in other local loves: mojitos and Cuban sandwiches from Terrace Cafe. Shine, the resident club, hosts a global roster of DJs and has a dance floor.

What a Beach!
If you are looking for a hotel with great beach access, this is it. The only thing missing from this resort was a check in binder of sorts that explained what was available and when.

Very disappointing.
Staff were disengaged and not very helpful. Room booking was incorrect (booked 2 double beds for 3 people - informed they only had King Bed rooms available) - sent us to a room that already had someone in there, had to go back to front desk twice. Took over an hour to check in - not a great start. Finally checked in, then got to the pool - and there were no towels available. Overall - very poorly managed hotel, and I would not return.

Awful!!
I have stayed at many hotels in Miami and thought I would give the Shelborne a shot since it had just underwent a "renovation". Thank goodness my stay was just for one night!! While the downstairs entrance (lobby, bar area, etc.) look great, boy was I in for a surprise when I got to my room! (I found out later, only a few rooms were updated!! Very deceiving!!) My room was on the 6th floor facing Collins Ave. As I got off the elevator, I noticed immediately that the hallway smelled damp, and looked cheap (torn carpet, cracked ceiling, scuff marks all over the walls). The room was NOTHING like what was pictured online. None of the furniture matched and looked of something that would come out of a Motel 6 (although I'm sure Motel 6 may have nicer things)! I was nervous to even walk on the floor on bare feet, let alone sleep in the bed! The bathroom was equally as bad if not worse then the rest of the room. The outlets did not work in the bathroom and looked in need of desperate repair. The tub had rust stains and the mirror was cracked on spots and had stains as well. Do yourself and stay at another hotel! Any hotel! It would be worth an extra $50 or even $100 a night, trust me!

Disgusting room
I was misled by the photos post here. The room I paid so much per night was dark, small, and very dirty (something gooey sticking on the wall). and the hairdryer is broken!! When I made a complaint to staff, she said I had to pay extra to stay in a room like the one shown in photos. If I had any problem, she suggested me to talk to the agent . I will NEVER stay at this hotel again. However, I have to give some credit to the staff serving breakfast. Great service. Actually, next time I will consider stay at this nearby city - Fort Lauderdale. Better traffic and newer hotels.

Location location location
The best thing about this hotel is its location and outdoor amenities...pool and beach. Rooms are small and beds are not very comfortable. We were first given an old room with dirty carpet, but when I asked to be moved, they did accommodate us and put us in a renovated room. Remember there is a $25 resort fee and a $35 daily fee to park your car.

Stayed during WMC Week
If you're planning to attend various WMC events and parties, this is a great place to stay. Cost was on the high end, but it paid dividends with free entry into both the day-time pool parties, and the night-time Shine Club.

Entertainment tip:
In Hotel
Save money on clubs and parties elsewhere. Shelborne books top talent - it's all free for hotel guests. Make sure you check-in early to get your bracelet. These parties sell out and despite being free you could find yourself on the sidelines if didn't pick up your bracelet before 2pm.

All the $$$ is on the outside
Great location, great exterior. Horrible rooms. They remind me of Milford Plaza in NYC. Dirty, dingy, no carpeting and small room. The worst part of the stay was Valet Staff. Arrogant, rude, slow and smashed my car gently enough for me not to notice but rental car place to notice. Never again.
