This intimate, Art Deco original is near all the best of South Beach

The Richmond bills itself as "Miami Beach's friendliest hotel." The same family has operated the business since it opened its doors in 1941, and the 92-room property is a local favorite. The oceanfront hotel and its neon-flooded exterior and original terrazzo floors fit in with its Art Deco neighbors. South Beach clubs, restaurants and shops are only a stroll away. Lush greenery delivers a sense of Hollywood glamour.

Highlights
  • Family-run Art Deco hotel
  • Beach path
  • Within walking distance to Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue
  • Heated outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardens
  • Rooftop terrace and heated half moon spa and coconut palm patio
Rooms

Room decor throws nods to old-world Florida with the vintage postcard-type framed prints and palm printed curtains as focal points. Look for retro details, too, such as Art Deco floor lamps, seafoam- and black-colored tile bathrooms, a 1930s-inspired clock, blond oak headboards and accent pieces. In case of a rain shower, which is common in South Florida, grab the red umbrella in the closet. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet can be accessed for an additional charge.

Features

The Richmond's boutique identity adds to its intimacy. Nice touches include a cement path leading to a wood boardwalk and a half-moon spa tub strategically placed in front of a winding stream. On the rooftop terrace and solarium, take in the neon lights from South Beach.  An on-site cafe serves breakfast until mid-afternoon, and by night, guests can sip cocktails on the front porch.

Personal professional in Paradise

Art Deco restored hotel is owner operated. Staff was attentive to every need esp the chef. Breakfast poolside with ocean just beyond, it doesn't get any better.

Like a dream!

What a surprise! We needed a one night reservation between our cruise and returning home. We were totally exhausted after getting off our ship @ 9:00am and we arrived around 10:00am. Without hesitation, we were allowed to check into our room. Unlike other hotels who typically cut off the a/c when the room is unoccupied, the room was fresh and perfect. We crashed until dinner time. The hotel was built in 1941 and the bathrooms certainly showed the time period but the bed certainly made up for that! The pool, verandah, connection to the beach, the tiki bar.... wow! Small restaurant for breakfast and lunch but it fits the bill. Easy walking on the beach front to Lincoln for any type of food you desire. I just kept waiting for Ricky to walk in the door and say "Luuuucy, I'm home!" Oh, room could use a clock radio! and perhaps new carpeting. But don't let that stop you from choosing The Richmond.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Head on over to Lincoln Road for any kind of food imagineable! Short walk -- excellent service and no lines! Each restaurant is hoping you select them so it can be a little overwhelming but keep on until you find what you want! Stores stayed open until 10:00 on Friday night.

Nice Relaxing Stay

Location was ideal. The rooms were ok, very small/outdated but they were still very clean. The Hotel Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recomend this place.

Fantastic Experience

My husband and I enjoyed two night at the Richmond before our cruise out of Miami. We had a great experience. There were only a few other couples in the hotel it felt like. Very quiet. The pool was very relaxing. So much in fact we didn't get to the beach. We liked how close the hotel was from night life, restaurants, and shopping. The hotel staff was very helpful in finding where everything was. I would definately come back to this hotel.

South Beach Classic

Reminds of a European hotel. Smaller rooms with stylish furniture. It is a classic south beach hotel with great beach access. It is an older property but has WiFi service for a daily fee.

Where's the bar?

We liked the location but not the lack of a place to get a drink in the evenings. The staff was friendly, but I was not interested in paying another 100 dollars a night for an ocean view.
