The Palms Hotel and Spa - Preferred Hotels & Resorts stands majestically on the northern end of the strip next to its own private beach. The AAA four-diamond hotel reflects the grandiose tropical mansions in South Florida and oozes seaside luxury after a $20 million renovation in 2009. Inside, guests unwind in sophisticated rooms with water and city views. There is an Aveda concept spa and an all-day restaurant serving seasonal ingredients and local seafood. Outside is a draw, too -- especially the lush gardens and canopy of palm trees hugging the pool and tiki bar.

Rooms

The 12-floor, 251-room hotel welcomes guests with views of tropical gardens, the Atlantic Ocean and the city. Pops of color complement chic lamps, mahogany furniture and gunmetal paint and fabrics. The signature palm print is used sparingly (and in updated fashion), appearing in tasteful armchairs. Expect 400-thread count Egyptian cotton bed linens, plush pillowtop mattresses, a fully stocked private bar and spa-inspired bathrooms bearing Aveda products. Room service is from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet are accessible from all rooms.

Property features

An oceanfront, landscaped property sets the scene for this contemporary beauty. Visitors have access to the restaurant, tiki bar, fitness facility and business center. Guests can also rejuvenate at in-house Aveda Spa. Thatched-roof massage rooms, hammocks and a quaint gazebo give guests a reason to linger outside.

Good South Beach Trip

Hotel is a bit dated. Service was great except for Auto Valet was terrible and were kept waiting in excess of 30 minutes for rental car. Pool is a bit dated and needs some cleaning but access to great area of the beach. Concierge and front desk were great. Had a great room on the penthouse floor. Hotel could use a renovation to compete with newer properties. No tub in room just shower.

We had a great time. It was a beautiful hotel and there was lots around there to do. The food at the hotel was unbelievable. The only thing that was a shocker was they only offered Valet Parking. No parking yourself and Valet parking was $40.00 a day

3 generation getaway

The lobby is beautiful, but who spend their vacation in the lobby? The room was very small. I hadn't really noticed when I booked the room that the 2 beds were double, not queen sized. The maid service came too late (after 3pm), interfering with our personal clean up after spending the day on the beach. I expected Miami to be expensive in terms of food and drink prices, but I did not expect all of the hidden fees. Extra money/day for a small refrigerator. No microwave capability, so this forced us to waste food and therefore have to purchase additional food. Extra high price/day for parking. Extra hotel fee/day was the icing on the cake. I thought that I booked a deal. I learned from this experience. I will stick to booking condominiums. I would rather have paid more on the front end than to feel like they blindsided me.

family trip

Our main issues were the payments we had to do at the check out that nobody notify us: A) USD 23 for a daily hotel fee. When I asked what it was, I was told it was for the amenities the hotel has: beach, towels, pool, Wifi... B) USD 37 Valet parking. It would've been cheaper moving by taxi

Nice mother daughter trip

My daughter and I came to miami beach just for a nice getaway and this hotel was great!! It was clean and the grounds are great! Lounging on the beach while the hotel staff serve you food and drinks on request was amazing!! The only thing I did not like was that the restaurant inside of the hotel was way to expensive but we found other places to eat dinner at. I would definitely return and recommend this hotel.

Great Place

Stayed for 3 days during the week. The property is gorgeous and mostly relaxed, unlike the chic and trendy places. The tiki bar and beach were great. The restaurant food was excellent. The only gripe I had was that there are a lot of foreign visitors who are not courteous to other people's private space. The pool was a bit much with the kids throwing balls around and the mother yelling (in a foreign language) at some other guy in the pool. Then there was the foreign guy who swims into you in the pool even though the pool is big and not crowded. I guess they don't know any better. We just stayed away from the pool after the first day.
