SOBE Trip Sucess

The Clifton was booked for a 3 day stay in South Beach. I used reviews from a number of sites to narrow it down, and then took a leap of faith. We were very happy with the choice. If you are from the Northeast, pictures may scare you off, as most of South Beach looks older and the buildings are stucco on the outsides. The interiors of every place seem to have been redone perfectly. The Clifton is more of a boutique hotel, small (2 stories) with a quaint feel. The rooms were ultra modern, with very comfortable (firm mattresses) beds. The bathroom was clean and the showers were great. The best part of this location is the vicinity to everything in South Beach. You are literally 5 minutes from the beach, 10 min walk to Lincoln Road which has a lively restaurant/bar/shopping scene. It's a $35 cab ride to/from MIA International Airport. My only complaint was that the coffee in the morning was $2 for a small cup. It seems like finding any bargain in SOBE is rare, so I took this in stride. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for anyone's next stay in Miami.

You can pre-pay at the Clifton for a cab back to the airport, which was very nice. It was easy and fluid, waking up and having transportation waiting for us in the lobby.

Quick weekend getaway

We wanted to take a short weekend trip to Miami and stumbled across this hotel. It met all of our needs and the location was perfect, right on collins behind ocean drive. We were in the middle of all the action. The room was cozy and the staff was great. I would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone. Only thing was there was no pool but who cares when the beach is right out back!

awesome location!

Great location, walking distance from everything, it's right at the center point of Collins ave. Turn the corner and youre on ocean ave and the beach is right there. We stayed in the room with the 2 double beds and it's was a little small, not Much floor space for luggage but we were only in the room to shower and sleep for a few hrs. The room was clean and the staff was very nice. Would stay again!

A week holidays with gf

The hotel is very well located, close to the beach, several restaurants and bars. Also located close to thrifty car rental where you can find good daily rates. Bar of the hotel gets a bit noisy during night (till 11 AM), but if you are in a party mood it's good. A coffee machine in the room would be useful.

Nice rehab on well located, old hotel in South Beach

Well-done rehab on a plain, efficient older art-deco hotel. Very clean, well-maintained, nothing fancy, but did everything I needed it to do.

Stay elsewhere for the same amount

Stay somewhere else! There are plenty of clean and affordable hotels in the area. The room was booked through a third party vendor for a double occupancy that was never arranged by the Clifton. Our group was told we were booked for a single occupancy room and that they were booked solid. As a result our group was given a “suite” (I use this term loosely). Although the hotel was recently renovated, it was poorly done. The walls are extremely thin; the lighting was atrocious (when the light decided to work. It would go on and off at its leisure), our phone did not work, and the curtain’s were falling apart…all of this in our “SUITE”! The staff was made up of a front desk attendant who took it upon herself to pocket money meant for a reservation and bar tenders who barely spoke English and didn’t know what limes were (really). It's as if they pulled random people off the street to work here. All in all this hotel equates to an Ikea decorated Howard Johnson’s. Stay somewhere else. And BUYER BEWARE, do not pay for any VIP party packages through the front desk as they will flat out rob you.

Perfect if you don't drive and not too high maintenance!

Pros: - a bar downstairs - clean and neat - they recycle - very courteous and friendly staff - I had a fridge, a TV, an alarm clock with iPod dock, an ironer, and a hair dryer in my room - 1 block away from the beach and all the restaurants on the Ocean Drive - everything is within walking distance from the hotel - you have an access to the swimming pool at the nearby hotel Cons: - rooms are very small - lots of noise from the bar (music was too loud) and if you are not lucky, from the neighbors - no coffee machine/cups, etc. - windows are overlooking either the windows of the hotel right next to it, or the parking garage (4 fl) - lights are too dark to read, but that doesn't really matter because you are not there for that reason

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

1) In most of the cases you can book a sightseeing tour at a better price online/ at Walgreens/ some other touristic office (there lots of them all around) than at the hotel. But I'm not sure whether you will travel with the same tour company or a different one depending on with whom you book the trip. 2) Most of the hotels and bars all around have happy hours and free drinks in some cases. So, ask around. 3) If you like to go out dancing, walk around with big groups of people - local promoters prefer to give away fliers to groups of people rather than 1-2 people at a time.

Noisy night life parties

If you are an African American, and you love partying during the weekend this is the best deal. The staff is cool and fun loving. Only it's too noisy at least on the first floor, so don't expect any sleep before 2 am.
