Stylish South Beach hotel with free happy hour and bustling nightlife

When in South Beach, lounge, dine and cocktail like the locals. The nightlife sizzles at the Catalina Hotel and Beach Club, thanks to two rooftop pools, three bars and two restaurants, including the people-watching hub Maxine's. The Catalina celebrates its boutique style with bold design elements such as stark white seating and linens and sumptuous red walls and lamps. Poolside beds reflect South Beach's quintessential luxurious approach to everyday living.

Highlights
  • Two rooftop pools, three bars and two restaurants, including South Beach favorite Maxine's
  • Free shuttle from Miami International Airport
  • Free happy hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • VIP passes to South Beach clubs
Rooms

Who says white has to be boring? The hue makes a dramatic statement when paired with red walls or damask-print. Floor-to-ceiling curtains lend softness to the rooms, where Tempur-pedic mattresses, 300-count Belgian sheets and goose down comforters are standard amenities. Space isn't an issue. Each room holds enough square footage to accommodate an in-house masseuse.

Features

The hotel hands out VIP passes to the hottest clubs, but the property is a nightlife magnet on its own. Visitors can sample sashimi in Kung-Fu Kitchen & Sushi or mingle with other singles at the rooftop pool. Go ahead: Order a cocktail from the cabana bed.

When it's time to catch a flight home, guests can cut their travel time via the free airport shuttle. An in-house system also enables visitors to modify, buy and confirm their flights from the hotel lobby.

Dining

Maxine Restaurant & Bar
The Maxine Restaurant at The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club is open and serves breakfast all day long! The Challah bread French toast is already known to be the best on South Beach. Located in our North building the restaurant, caf, and bar is a great place to people watch while enjoying cocktails and delicious treats.
Kung Fu Sushi
Kung Fu Sushi is an eclectic mix of sushi and Asian food with a real kick. The menu ranges from Seabass to Japanese Red Snapper Rolls, and you'll definitely want to cleanse the palate with signature sake cocktails like the Tokyo Rose or Japanese Jade. The delicious and affordable fare is served amidst dcor that is just as impressive. Partnering with famed artist Lebo to showcase his work, this sexy mod-Asian bistro will offer a complete experience for your senses. As the choice of unique establishments offered becomes increasingly limited in Miami Beach, travelers can continue to rely on the South Beach Group as the source for lifestyle hotels and restaurants that are always original and interesting.

Catalina Average

The hotel was located in a perfect location in South Beach. Even though construction was going on (never mention until I arrived) it was ok if your looking for place just to pout your bags. The beaches are amazing, the beach club is great and food was excellent. Even though the staff was nice, the concierge by the name of Tyrell was outstanding.

Nice location, great value

Had an overall nice experience at this hotel. The room was clean and decent. The location is great as well - it is a walking distance to the beach and the shopping and dining spots on Lincoln and Washington Avenues.

Good for one night

Stayed here my last night in Miami. Good for one night, not much space. I had to call down 4 times just to get ice which took 3 hours to get delivered.

Nice hotel except for random mini bar charge

Stayed here 1 night in June 2014. Giving them a more negative review than I originally planned because they charged my credit card for taking food from their mini bar which I never touched. Other than charging me for items I didn't buy, the hotel is decent. The rooms were clean and nice. The beds were good too. I could have done without the thin bathroom walls that allow you to hear into the next door bathroom. I could hear everything my neighbors were saying (and doing). The happy hour is good - a lot of the hotel guests were in the bar/lobby area taking advantage of the "free" drinks (free if you don't count the $15 resort fee you have to pay). It's a good way to socialize with other guests if you want. Because of things like the happy hour, this hotel is ideal for travelers in their 20s and 30s. Other amenities that I liked: They have bicycles you can borrow staring at 10 am. The hotel is conveniently located. It's very close to the Lincoln Mall and the beach is basically across the street. Because of its great location, parking sucks (but that's true of all hotels in the area). If you want to park at the hotel, you will be charged $35. I didn't find any other alternatives, but maybe I didnt look hard enough. I didn't see any public parking garages that were chaper for overnight parking and street parking was limited to 3 hours (it may be different after a certain time, but I never actually found an open spot to check)

A Great Night

For $150 a night it was perfect. I used to work here as the Executive Chef and was traveling from Key West to Miami for a Marlins game. Needed a room for one night and wanted to stay in SOBE. When I saw the deal at Catalina I jumped on it, knowing what all of the other hotels in the area charge and what you get for it. One of the things that always perplexes me when I read reviews for hotels in South Beach is that people always complain about the price vs. room. South Beach is ALL Art Deco hotels and you are not going to find big tricked out rooms anywhere...even at the Ritz, Setai etc. Now that being said if you want to spend $400 and up a night to stay in one of those places you will be in a much nicer hotel with a nicer room, on the beach and you will still probably feel like you didn't get your money's worth. that's SOBE...you are there to walk around, hang on the beach or by the pool, not hang out in your room. If you want a nice room for $200 a night or less I can promise you that Catalina delivers better than anyone else and the location is killer.
