Stylish South Beach hotel with free happy hour and bustling nightlife

When in South Beach, lounge, dine and cocktail like the locals. The nightlife sizzles at the Catalina Hotel and Beach Club, thanks to two rooftop pools, three bars and two restaurants, including the people-watching hub Maxine's. The Catalina celebrates its boutique style with bold design elements such as stark white seating and linens and sumptuous red walls and lamps. Poolside beds reflect South Beach's quintessential luxurious approach to everyday living.

Highlights
  • Two rooftop pools, three bars and two restaurants, including South Beach favorite Maxine's
  • Free shuttle from Miami International Airport
  • Free happy hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Rooms

Who says white has to be boring? The hue makes a dramatic statement when paired with red walls or damask-print. Floor-to-ceiling curtains lend softness to the rooms, where Tempur-pedic mattresses, 300-count Belgian sheets and goose down comforters are standard amenities. Space isn't an issue. Each room holds enough square footage to accommodate an in-house masseuse.

Features

The hotel hands out VIP passes to the hottest clubs, but the property is a nightlife magnet on its own. Visitors can sample sashimi in Kung-Fu Kitchen & Sushi or mingle with other singles at the rooftop pool. Go ahead: Order a cocktail from the cabana bed.

When it's time to catch a flight home, guests can cut their travel time via the free airport shuttle. An in-house system also enables visitors to modify, buy and confirm their flights from the hotel lobby.

Dining

Maxine Restaurant & Bar
The Maxine Restaurant at The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club is open and serves breakfast all day long! The Challah bread French toast is already known to be the best on South Beach. Located in our North building the restaurant, caf, and bar is a great place to people watch while enjoying cocktails and delicious treats.
Kung Fu Sushi
Kung Fu Sushi is an eclectic mix of sushi and Asian food with a real kick. The menu ranges from Seabass to Japanese Red Snapper Rolls, and you'll definitely want to cleanse the palate with signature sake cocktails like the Tokyo Rose or Japanese Jade. The delicious and affordable fare is served amidst dcor that is just as impressive. Partnering with famed artist Lebo to showcase his work, this sexy mod-Asian bistro will offer a complete experience for your senses. As the choice of unique establishments offered becomes increasingly limited in Miami Beach, travelers can continue to rely on the South Beach Group as the source for lifestyle hotels and restaurants that are always original and interesting.

Great location

Because of the great location this hotel was awesome. The rooms are small but also comfortable nothing really bothered us at all because we were there not to stay in the hotel but to enjoy all sorts of activities.

Great location

The location was great, close to the beach and right in the middle of the nightlife. The property is made up of three separate buildings. It has a fun style, but like most hotels in the area, it is an old hotel and you can sense it once you get away from the lobby. Good food and a fun staff. I would visit again.

great location but otherwise not impressed

First off the location to the beach and some shopping and dining is great! The hotel itself is just ehh. From reading other reviews I wasn't expecting much and didn't get much. The check-in process was slow but the front desk people were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are super small. We had a king size bed(which was comfy) and it took up most of the room. No dresser and the bathroom was tiny. The hotel is past due an update. To us it wasn't worth the price.

Dissapointed

This hotel reminded us of the old western hotels where there was a grand façade to make the property look larger and more impressive. Considerable attention to detail has been made on the exterior bar/restaurant areas of these three connected properties. However, our room was very small, the bed worn out, air conditioning barely functioning and bathroom the size of a postage stamp. Upon our arrival the safe didn't work and it took two requests to have it fixed. The toilet wouldn't flush as the valve constantly stuck and needed to be replaced - no response to our requests for repair, Hence for three days we had to take the top off the tank and do manually. The bathroom door had improvised hinge pins which resulted in our not being able to leave it open. Renovations were just done cheaply and did not measure up to the price charged or expectations.

pretty good

I loved the great location, and super nice desk staff, door men- really good manners. The beach staff rude, and the GM not helpful when escalated an issue with my room. Couldn't sleep, loud people, super loud AC. The rooftop pool was a nice bonus. Really nice to have good restaurant with live music right there.Concierge very helpful. Nice guy. Some waiters super nice, others not so helpful. Couldn't find the shuttle from MIA, so had to pay for one. Bed super uncomfortable, old. Great place for 150 a night but would be really upset if I paid the 300 they were asking. Didn't know there was a free town shuttle until last day- that would have been handy.

First Boutique in Miami

The last few times I stayed in Miami was at Loews and Fontainbleu. This was my first boutique hotel experience. Very cute decor and cozy for my short stay. I attended a wedding this time and only stayed in the hotel for sleep and shower. Cons: the hallways were dark and a little musty; the room was small with no view; the rooms very basic with some updates. But I must say the guest services were excellent. Everyone was very polite and accommodating. The location was central to everywhere I wanted to be. Free hotel shuttle was also key. I would recommend this place for people on a budget, wanting to explore the outside of their hotel room.

South beach in Februrary

Pros: close walk to the beach, fun atmosphere, the employees try to help, Maxine's restaurant is 24 hours, location is near shops, walgreens, etc.. Cons: they charged for an upgrade for early check-in, there was only 1 employee at the front desk, the rooms are outdated, it can be loud (thin walls) but this wasn't a problem on our trip, no view of the ocean
