Stylish South Beach hotel with free happy hour and bustling nightlife

When in South Beach, lounge, dine and cocktail like the locals. The nightlife sizzles at the Catalina Hotel and Beach Club, thanks to two rooftop pools, three bars and two restaurants, including the people-watching hub Maxine's. The Catalina celebrates its boutique style with bold design elements such as stark white seating and linens and sumptuous red walls and lamps. Poolside beds reflect South Beach's quintessential luxurious approach to everyday living.

Highlights
  • Two rooftop pools, three bars and two restaurants, including South Beach favorite Maxine's
  • Free shuttle from Miami International Airport
  • Free happy hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Rooms

Who says white has to be boring? The hue makes a dramatic statement when paired with red walls or damask-print. Floor-to-ceiling curtains lend softness to the rooms, where Tempur-pedic mattresses, 300-count Belgian sheets and goose down comforters are standard amenities. Space isn't an issue. Each room holds enough square footage to accommodate an in-house masseuse.

Features

The hotel hands out VIP passes to the hottest clubs, but the property is a nightlife magnet on its own. Visitors can sample sashimi in Kung-Fu Kitchen & Sushi or mingle with other singles at the rooftop pool. Go ahead: Order a cocktail from the cabana bed.

When it's time to catch a flight home, guests can cut their travel time via the free airport shuttle. An in-house system also enables visitors to modify, buy and confirm their flights from the hotel lobby.

Dining

Maxine Restaurant & Bar
The Maxine Restaurant at The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club is open and serves breakfast all day long! The Challah bread French toast is already known to be the best on South Beach. Located in our North building the restaurant, caf, and bar is a great place to people watch while enjoying cocktails and delicious treats.
Kung Fu Sushi
Kung Fu Sushi is an eclectic mix of sushi and Asian food with a real kick. The menu ranges from Seabass to Japanese Red Snapper Rolls, and you'll definitely want to cleanse the palate with signature sake cocktails like the Tokyo Rose or Japanese Jade. The delicious and affordable fare is served amidst dcor that is just as impressive. Partnering with famed artist Lebo to showcase his work, this sexy mod-Asian bistro will offer a complete experience for your senses. As the choice of unique establishments offered becomes increasingly limited in Miami Beach, travelers can continue to rely on the South Beach Group as the source for lifestyle hotels and restaurants that are always original and interesting.

Nice hotel, good location

Overall my experience at this hotel went well. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and met expectations as outlined on website. The location is great, close to South Beach, shops on Lincoln/Collins, and steps away from Ocean Dr. The restaurants at the hotel have great food as well for decent prices. Pretty good bang for your buck. The only down side was that we were given the wrong room on the first night of our stay (a much smaller room in size and less in price). And after several attempts to contact the manager with no response, we were not compensated in any way for this error on the hotel's part.

Good overall, with some rough patches

When we arrived very late at night they told us we would have to move to a sister property that was "nicer." The other hotel was actually nicer, however instead of the two double beds promised we had one fabulous bed and one horrendous pullout couch. We insisted on being moved back the next morning, and dealt with completely incompetent staff in the process. Finally, a great manager spoke to us getting us the room we we promised along with several vouchers to make up for the mishap. From then on the stay was perfect--the rooftop pool is amazing, the location couldn't be better, and the restaurants are great.

Both restaurants are great--if you're ordering at the pool from Maxine's expect a very long wait.

Great location

Great location, however the room was extremely small, and there was no maid service. I had to call multiple times to get addition towels.

Good value and good location

The hotel was a good price and in a great location, but the staff was rude and often unhelpful. The amenities were great - nice rooftop pool and a very short walk to the beach, with towels and beach chairs included at no cost.

This Hotel Caters for a Different Crowd

This hotel is in the center of the Miami Beach scene, catering to a young, free-swinging, party-going crowd. The parking is Extremely Limited, so valet parking costs $35.00/night; and the constant car/bus/bike/pedestrian traffic causes confusing congestion. The hotel is designed in clean whites, reds & blacks; this week with lots of Hallowe'en decorations; but the carpet was very thread-bare and dirty. My room was clean and spare, but the window looked out onto the blank wall of the building only a few feet away. There are 2 restaurants next door, with coupons for drinks, and a bar in the hotel. The beach is across the street, and the pedestrian shopping area is only a few blocks away. This is not a hotel for families with young, impressionable children, or for older folks who want a good nights rest.

Good Hotel

Good location, clean rooms, friendly staff. No coffee service in the room and it was a bit awkward having the toilet separate from the sink and shower - as in opposite sides of the room. Good place to stay overall and certainly much better than a run-of-the-mill chain hotel.

Not Bad

The hotel actually consists of 2 buildings...one older, one newer. At first they gave us a room in older building but we switched due to air conditioning not working. They switched us to the other building which is much nicer. Rooftop pool is nice and quiet with bar and food. This hotel is not beachfront. You must cross the street and use public beach (1 min walk). Only negative review from me is that we purchased a party package from the girl at the front desk that was supposed to be 2 hours open bar (top-shelf liquor)in hotel lobby, partybus ride to nightclub and free VIP nightclub entrance. Well, top shelf liquor "ran out" after 45 minutes according to bartender. After talking to him a bit further we were told they only had 1 bottle of top shelf vodka...for a group of 20 people for 2 hours(umm, ok). Partybus was fine but we still waited for a bit in line at club. Not too bad, but we did pay a pretty penny per person for this "VIP package". Would stay here again w/o spending money on hotel sponsered outings.

Walk out of hotel and walk right. There is a plaza full of restaurants and shops 2 blocks up on your right. Prices range so it fits every budget.

Good value for money, great location

Excellent location, comparatively inexpensive for South Beach. Room was nicely decorated, but carpet that covered a small part of the floor was filthy. Valet parking was awful. Waited one hour to get our car back. Another guy was worse off, they couldn't find his car. This apparently is a problem in all South Beach hotels, as it's the same, understaffed company that does the valet parking for almost all hotels. If you do use the valet, try to avoid getting your car back at checkout time, when they're unable to cope.

great food but shoebox size rooms!

the beds were very comfortable but not a lot of room to move around. They were remodeling the hotel while we were there and that did make some noise outside of our room in the morning. Also it was $32 a day for parking and the $15 resort fee was absurd.
