The Betsy, Amazing Hotel on Ocean Drive!

Would recommend Sun, Nov 1, 2009
The Besty has an eager staff in a stylish, understated hotel that is welcome luxury and calm after a day of simple fun at the beach or busy Ocean drive.

Dining

This Betsy is across the street from a Starbucks and near a Subway and cheap, decent sushi for the days you don't necessarily feel like eating at fancier places, (the majority of which are walking distance when you do). Lincoln Road is a short walk away.

Nice Hotel

Would recommend Sat, Oct 24, 2009
The hotel is clean. The bathroom is nice. Location is key. I was underwhelmed by the size of the room and the pool. The hotel restaurant's menu was limited. I've stayed in better for less on south beach.

A real gem

Would recommend Mon, Aug 31, 2009
Since I haven't travelled in a while, the experience at this hotel helped to make my trip outstanding. The staff was so caring and took time out to help me whenever I needed it. I was travelling with my 86 year old mother and they were so kind to her and very watchful of her. Great location, in walking distance of shops, beach and restaurants.

Dining

Would recommend Osteria de Trattoria which was in walking distance with outstanding Italian food and service.

Loved Miami and The Betsy

Would recommend Mon, Jul 27, 2009
We stayed 6 nights and the service was exceptional. Food was great though expensive. Portions were huge and copuld be split. Dinner about $150. for two without desert, but with by the glass wine. Breakfast was very expensive. Down the street was about half price. They could dominate at breakfast as their quality is very good and their service is also. Volume will coe if the price value ratio is in line and the quality is there. A muffin, juice and coffee with some yogurt and fruit shouldn't cost $30. THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE COMING TO MIAMI ARE COMMING FOR. WILL GO BACK--BUT WILL NOT BE EXCLUSIVE TO THEM UNLESS THEY CHANGE THAT. They need to complete their Spa facility to be great!

A fun, relaxing time

Would recommend Mon, Jul 20, 2009
The good and the (slightly)bad: -Friendly, hospitable, very helpful staff. A++ (sometimes TOO nice, where it didn't seem very genuine - not a complaint, just an observation) They help you get checked in, they gave us an extra hour to checkout since our flight was a little later, they held our luggage after checkout while we walked around, and they even got us a taxi and loaded it in the car. Super staff. -Very clean room and bathroom. Small, but it was expected compared to all of the other sobe hotels. -Super comfortable bed and sheets. -Beach butlers - resort fees include this so you can walk across the street (30 seconds) to the beach, get some chairs, chair pads, towels and an umbrella anytime, and relax -a couple of blocks to lincoln road with all of these bars and restaurants and shops. Great people watching. -short walking to any type of restaurant, a walgreens and cvs, anything. No real need for a car here. ----Bad---- -Pool was reallllllly small. Most of our time spent at the beach across the street. -Bathroom shower was weird. Had a cool waterfall showerhead and hand held shower head. It didn't have a door, or shower curtain on one side, so you couldn't really stand in that area. Basically, get you in and out of the shower to conserve water is my guess. Definitely had a lot of instances of water splashing out onto the floor of the bathroom. no good. Shower isn't made for ladies bc it was extremely difficult to shave my legs. -The BLT restaurant in the hotel, the waitress didn't come back for 30 minutes after she explained the menu. We were starving, just paid for our diet coke, and left to eat on Lincoln Road, and didn't fork over 300 bucks for dinner, which it could have easily been at BLT. -Walls are thin. You can hear everything. We were also located near an elevator, so I def. heard the elevator beep all the time. I believe other guests were aware so they tried to be quiet. Even at low volumes you could hear when people are watching tv, or listening to their music. Very positive experience though. Cleanliness, staff and location made it.

Dining

Eat at the restaurant called "Nexxt" on Lincoln. They have everything for the pickiest people. LARGE portions. You don't feel like you've made a dent even though you end up so full. Good people watching again. Entrees probably average about 15-20 bucks. But you definitely get what you pay for. You could order there and eat the leftovers for a 3 day stay :)

Elegant ambiance in Ocean Drive.

Would recommend Wed, Jul 15, 2009
The Betsy is a beautiful, well decorated, boutique hotel. It is located in one of the corners of Ocean Drive, which permits you to be a little (just right) far away from crowds. Beds are SUPER confortable. But one of the best things at The Betsy is the staff. Friendly, educated and most of the guys are handsome!

Almost perfect

Would recommend Sat, Jul 11, 2009
My husband and I decided to take a quick mid-week trip to Miami where we could spend time on the beach, relax, have a couple of good meals. The Betsy is a great hotel - elegant, sophisticated, very clean, friendly staff. Just a few complaints: the concierge appeared enthusiastic and helpful, yet failed to respond to an inquiry that we made even though she promised that she would leave a response in our room. She was really full of hot air and also difficult to get a hold of. We also asked the front desk for dinner suggestions and they sent us to Espanola Way in addition to other major tourist traps. Ugh. We did have dinner one night at BLT, which was fantastic. The hotel's pool is small, but what's worse is that their a/c and/or kitchen fans are located nearby, which made sitting by the pool unbearable. I paid extra for a poolside room, which was dumb because it looks out over the inner courtyard, thus we could never open our window shades since it afforded absolutely no privacy. No hooks or towel racks in the bathroom where you can hang a wet bathing suit (or towel). No HBO, which was kind of a drag. And finally, we left our luggage with the bellboy so that we could grab a sandwich before departing. When we got into the taxi, I noticed that the strap to my beach bag had broken off, which was no big deal, but the bellboy should have acknowledged it since it happened under his care. There were many positive aspects to our stay: staff was very friendly, location is excellent, room was very clean, bed was amazingly comfortable with soft sheets and piles of pillows, dinner at BLT was one of the best meals I've ever had (loved the popovers). They also gave us a late checkout, which was great because it allowed us to spend our morning on the beach. But in the end, the Betsy was slightly lacking. As others have noted, for the price of our stay, complimentary bottles of water should be offered, a continental breakfast would have been nice, and the cost of beach chairs/towels should be included. And the concierge needs to get her act together.

Dining

Get your coffee at Starbucks, which is just across the street with a nice view of Lummus Park.

very nice hotel in great location

Would recommend Wed, Jul 8, 2009
Very nice hotel and great restaurant. The staff are very nice. Rooms are a bit small if you have a child with you. The hotel would be perfect if the rooms could have balconies. However, overall this is a fantastic boutique hotel with great ambience and in a great location. Will definitely go back.

Dining

BLT Steakhouse (in hotel) is excellent.
