Art Deco boutique hotel near South Beach clubs, shops and restaurants
Original 1936 Vitrolite panels light the entrance to this Art Deco jewel in the heart of South Beach. The 40-room hotel is more minimalist than its flashier competitors and has been restored to its initial splendor. The expansive lobby has a tiled floor and dramatic lighting reminiscent of Hollywood glamour. Inside, rooms favor the less-is-more approach. Expect lots of white -- Miami Beach's signature color --sleek furniture and Roman shades.

- Art Deco jewel on Washington Avenue
- Free shuttle service to Miami International Airport
- Casa Fiorentina restaurant for Italian (Tuscan Cuisine) available at 8-12 AM (breakfast/lunch/dinner)

WOW!
This was a great stay for me and my boyfriend. From the time we arrived the lovely hotel staff was accommodating and helpful. Andres, Ricardo, and Jorge were there to help every step of the way at the front desk. The location to everything from this hotel was fantastic. The beach was literally 2 blocks away. The rooms were clean, had modern decor, and gives you exactly what you expect during a vaction. I would DEFINITELY stay at the Astor

Astor Hotel experience
NOISE in a word. No carpeting in halls or rooms equals super noisy especially at 4am. - phone(s) for desk in room did not work. switched rooms no hot water at first until they reset boiler switch. Site says breakfast complimentary - restaurant was closed, could of at least offered comp coffee in lobby. No pool it's a killer, next time. Staff was polite and somewhat helpful.

Fun In South Beach
Easy check-in. We had a great room- but unfortunately it was very hot out and our air conditioning didin't work- we had to switch rooms- 2nd room not as cool as the corner delux room- they wouldn't do anything for us either upon request. Otherwise- the reception folks were very helpful- told us where to go eat, parking tips, and helped us print out info for our cruise. Did like the Astor- A little away from the noisy area- which we liked!

Average Hotel stay
I must agree with some of the past reviews...the stay wasn't too bad but you can hang up trying to sleep past 8AM...the door slamming was awful I could hear this constantly throughout the early morning hours...the front desk claim that they are trying to work on this still...there still isn't a place to eat inside the hotel or a place to grab a cocktail (no mini fridge, no covering for shower, & toilet will run)...hotel appears to be a work in progress but has potential...the location is awesome and South Beach is a place that is now in my top three favs...

Mediocre
The hotel is in very good location and was pretty inexpensive. It appears to have been recently rennovated and they are currently renovating the bar area it seemed. Craftsmanship was sloppy in terms of work done in room. Cheap building materials including laminate hardwood floors throught the hallways and rooms. Poor insulation and lack of carpeting made noises from hall including doors slamming shut easy to hear throughout the night. Overall, decent hotel in a good location. You get what you pay for but not much more

Nice South Beach area location with easy walk to fine stores and nightlife.
The room was a suite, but lacked nice furniture in the living room area. There was an old dirty couch a small work table and a coffee table, along with 3 bar stools randomly sitting in the corner. The heat and A/C could not be regulated, and the WIFI connection was very erratic. Parking was by a private valet service, which was very late bringing us our car when we checked out. Overall, a very ordinary budget hotel at best, but not a four star by any stretch of the imagination!

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Lots of night life, bars and eating establishments along the ocean front, just 2 blocks away. That area seemed to be both crowded and expensive. We did not stop as it was a bit noisy and crowded for our taste.

It was only alright
We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with ensuite bathroom. First impression was that the room is large, clean and pleasant. The king size bed was very comfortable and the air conditioner was very effective. However, be prepared for the extremely loud pipes in the bathroom. I understand that the building is old. But I don't think that every old building in the Art Deco district would suffer from the same affliction. Surely pipes can be fixed? The only way to alleviate the noise (it sounded like whales singing - no exaggeration), was to turn the hot water tap on which was a huge waste of water. Also, the internet in the rooms weren't working. We had to continuously go to the foyer to connect to the internet. When both problems were mentioned, staff were very apologetic but nothing was done about it. One of the receptionists promised that they would do something about the resort fee of USD15 a day, but when we checked out, we found out that they had charged this fee to my credit card. I have yet to amend this. lastly, the Astor website mentions a Fitness Centre. The only fitness I got out of the hotel was climbing the stairs to my floor. Please note that they do have elevators, but we chose to use the stairs. So in summary, there is no fitness centre although reception mentioned they share a fitness centre with a sister hotel down the block, but that fitness centre only has a treadmill and minimal weights. To end on a positive note, the Astor is in an excellent location. Close to Lincoln Ave, Collins Ave and only 2 blocks from the beach.

Served its purpose, but I won't go back
Its a good location, but not much else was good. The walls are paper thin and they put down wood flooring everywhere with no carpeting so noise travels extremely well. I stayed on the first floor in the hallway off the lobby and the noise made it feel like I was sleeping in the lobby. There was also quite a bit of noise from people walking in the upstairs rooms. Fortunately, the restaurant/bar was closed for rennovations. The a/c was also broken...wouldn't shut off and cooled the room to 58 degrees. The staff fix for that was to turn it off completely. Happily, the weather was nice enough, but sadly housekeeping turned it back on. The desk person upgraded someone "just to be nice" while I was waiting, but no such offer was made to me despite the room issues. The shower dripped constantly (more annoying noise) and the wall had a big spot that was either painted a different color or didn't get painted (cosmetic, I know, but just added to the overall "ick" of the place). I am very glad my stay was relatively short.
