Not the best value
Overall our stay was nice, the staff was friendly and outgoing, we felt safe, and it had a good location. The pool was dirty, very disappointed, might have had something to do with the roof replacement project –had we known that we would not have stayed there due to noise and smell. The beach area is nice but bring $30 cash with you if you want to rent 2 chairs and an umbrella for the day. Our room was Extremely outdated… notice the website doesn’t show you photos of the rooms/suites? If you miss the look of 1983 you will love it! We however will not stay here again. check-out 3-4-12

My stay at the Alexander
I was in Miami doing work for a customer. They were paying my expenses so I decided to spend a little more out of my pocket to up-grade my stay and get a hotel on Miami Beach and enjoy the time I wasn't working. The hotel is nice looking at first. Lobby and entrance. Valet parking is all that is available and an extra charge. WiFy is extra. No computers abailable to print out e-tickets or bording passes. You have to get the front desk to do it and it usually means giving them your credit card # again and ID. Have to wait till someone is available to do it. Hotel is old an rooms look it. Reminds me of late '60s or '70s bathroom & kitchen in my suite. Had single pain glass and heated up badly if you leave the curtains open at night and then in the morning the sun cooks the room. Glass was dirty inside and out. Shower caucking was crumbling and black in places.Every one speaks borken English. Prices on everything is high. Of course, it's Miami Beach. I had one more night to stay but gave it up and moved to a Holiday Inn Express next to the airport on my last night because I knew traffic would be bad for my early morning flight and it would take me a long time to check out, wait on car to be brought around. For the money, it's too old and run down.

Definitely fancy but I came away unhappy
This hotel has some beautiful appointments, within the common areas as well as the room we occupied - I was very happy with the bathrooms, in particular - but they nickle & dime you on most everything besides the room. You have to pay extra for WiFi (and my credit card was declined), extra for breakfast, extra for the beach chairs and umbrellas, and extra for the valet parking, though it wasn't clear that one had the option to park the car oneself. I was especially hurt by the lack of free, accessible WiFi; the City of Miami Beach has outdoor area WiFi network, but it seems to cap bandwidth use so that I couldn't upload the files I need to send to my students - i.e., having a dedicated hotel WiFi was a must for me. The service at breakfast was good, but the buffet breakfast was of a quality that I'd expect at a much less expensive hotel. The A/C in our room worked, if we turned the knob low enough, but when it ran, it was very noisy. This hotel is all about: location, location, location, but I wasn't impressed with that much else.

Sightseeing tip:
In Hotel
The pools and beach access at this hotel are fantastic: two pools outside between the hotel and beach, and then the beach itself just outside the back gate of the hotel.

The Alexander
We enjoyed the beach, pool and having great food and drinks! It would have been nice to have complimentary breakfast like I had at the other hotels I stayed in previously but I still enjoyed my stay there.

The good and the bad
I read about the Alexzander on a popular site and figured that they are usually right on. THE BAD Well.... it was really dirty. The main lobby is clean but the room was very dirty. The floor wasn't washed or vacuumed. The bathroom showers both had mold. The glass tables were covered in dust. The floral arrangements were so dusty that we debated on putting them in the hallway. We called to have the room cleaned and they still didn't clean the floors, tables, showers, etc they only refreshed the towels. The pool area is average, we stayed at the beach and paid for chair rentals. The staff didn't seem to have a clue about most things we asked. We asked a simple question "where do we go to pick up the Alexander pizza" their answer "you have to get it delivered to your room" me, "it says on the menu that we can either pick it up or have it delivered. Their answer "you have to have it delivered." Turns out you can pick it up at the restaurant Shula's. Just a lot of things like that. The ONLY helpful person is the consierge. THE GOOD Large room. We had a suite with 2 rooms, one king and the otehr room had 2 single beds. Could see the ocean once on the balcony. Having a kitchen is nice. We stopped for grocerys and made breakfast and lunch each day. Right on the beach but far from downtown shopping. Overall I would rather have a smaller room that was cleaner. I can put up with a little mess but it was really bad, not to mention the chips that were on the floor in the hallway for our entire stay. Ick.

The birthday girl
Alexander All Suties? Or just All OLD!
It was my 50th birthday and my husband decided to get us a quick getaway at The Alexander. NO KIDS for the next 36 hours!!! After paying over $300 for our room, you'd think it would be really nice. We did not have a complete ocean view, it was a side view. The bathtub's paint was chipped and old. The lampshades were dirty and old and stained. NO FREE INTERNET...had to PAY for it!! The cold water faucet in the bathroom was broken. Every time I leaned up against the counter, the whole thing 'squeaked'. Hair on the blow dryer they provided. There were no extra blankets and we asked for one and never got it. The breakfast buffet was slightly cold. $18 in April it should be PERFECT! No map of the hotel layout. Seemed like I was always asking where things were and what door to go out of (no marked amenities on the elevator buttons either, that would have been nice). Elevator had a tv in it running info-mercials. Thought that was weird. The hilite of the trip was going to downtown Miami and eating at the Oceanaire restaurant. Wish I would've stayed more downtown. Miami Beach and The Alexander is somewhere I won't visit again. Too old and needs revamping. Oh and the best part is when we walked in to register, two English guys were cursing and yelling at the staff about something...they were even showing the staff a picture on their cell phones. Not sure what that was all about but made me wonder....

Wonderful Experience
Suite was very spacious and clean...many flat screen tv's and comfortable bed. Balcony view was of hotel next door. You could see the ocean, but the view wasn't great. Restaurant was very good overall and waitstaff was exceptional. Nice pools...one with a small waterfall. Direct access to beach was very nice, Beach was very good, except a little rocky once you walked into the water. Attentive staff and quaint giftshop. I would definitely stay here again.
