Past it's prime.

An old classic that needs to spend some intense time under renovation. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The hotels in this area all have that chic, retro feel, catering to that "certain" clientele, who's parents and their parents have been coming to the area. Unfortunately, their grandparents probably sat on the same furniture! The suite appeared to have gone through a semi renovation, that just never was completed. Broken fixtures throughout, with rust and dirt everywhere. All-in-all, the hotel is well past its prime. Sadly, it just doesn't warrant the nightly rate. Although we had a lovely evening, we would not return, until after some very heavy upgrades.

Good location, dated hotel

That's just the experience in Miami Beach: hotels on the beach are most likely old and overpriced. This hotel is OK if you're traveling with a group since the suites have a kitchen, living room and two rooms. Not a good fit for couples. Every suite is different, since the units are condos owned by different people. We upgraded to an oceanfront signature suite and it made all the difference - The regular unit looked just like a cheap old condo, not quite the beach experience we were expecting.

Great location, rooms are older

Awesome location on Miami Beach, perfect scenery and paradise beach with white sand and transparent blue water just outside the hotel, and great pools. But, the rooms are needing remodel as they are quite old. Also, bedding is old and shows signs of age, should be replaced. The A/C only worked if put at about 65, too cold for our tastes. We toured around Miami Beach, Miami downtown, went on a day trip to the Bahamas using Balearia Bahamas Express. We also drove around Miami beach and did some shopping at Bal Harbour Shops and Lincoln Road Mall.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Beach, right out back of the hotel, very nice! Transparent, blue waters, so refreshing! And the sand was powder-white and very good. You can rent beach chairs, umbrella, even jet ski right there. Then you can go back inside the hotel pool area to order drinks or food when hungry/thirsty and take them out to the beach to enjoy your pina coladas!

Family Beach Vacation

My family of four, including two teenagers, just spent 9 days at this hotel. We all agree it was the best Florida vacation ever. Hotel is small so the pools and beachfront were not overly crowded. All suite hotel and our two bedroom suite was updated and immaculate with beautiful, comfortable furnishings. The housekeeping staff were top notch. I cannot say enough about the staff, in general from the front desk to the concierge, they were all gracious and helpful. We had a problem with one our our TV's. Engineering came within 30 min to look at it, could not find the problem, and had a replacement on the wall within an hour!Highly reccommend.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

save money if buy food in supermarket and cook in hotel's room because if u are no ready to eat fast food 24/7,most of restaurants are expencive except some small latinos...we paid in Russian place "Tatyana" for 4 people $248 after coupon-discount...u get a lot fun to drive very short way to Washington/Lincoln Ave. to take nice walk/eat/drink/take pictures/hang out with another cultures-languages-people that is always best option for me

2 night stay

The Alexander is set on a beautiful beach location, with a wonderful bar/snack area above the lower pool overlooking the beach. Our waiter and waitress were exceptional and gave us great advice and info regarding food and restaurants. Although our stay was short, the suite we stayed in made it comfortable even though it was raining. The suites could use an upgrade, regarding furniture and maybe a few patch jobs in the walls, but overall for the price we thought it was great!

Not the best value

Overall our stay was nice, the staff was friendly and outgoing, we felt safe, and it had a good location. The pool was dirty, very disappointed, might have had something to do with the roof replacement project –had we known that we would not have stayed there due to noise and smell. The beach area is nice but bring $30 cash with you if you want to rent 2 chairs and an umbrella for the day. Our room was Extremely outdated… notice the website doesn’t show you photos of the rooms/suites? If you miss the look of 1983 you will love it! We however will not stay here again. check-out 3-4-12

My stay at the Alexander

I was in Miami doing work for a customer. They were paying my expenses so I decided to spend a little more out of my pocket to up-grade my stay and get a hotel on Miami Beach and enjoy the time I wasn't working. The hotel is nice looking at first. Lobby and entrance. Valet parking is all that is available and an extra charge. WiFy is extra. No computers abailable to print out e-tickets or bording passes. You have to get the front desk to do it and it usually means giving them your credit card # again and ID. Have to wait till someone is available to do it. Hotel is old an rooms look it. Reminds me of late '60s or '70s bathroom & kitchen in my suite. Had single pain glass and heated up badly if you leave the curtains open at night and then in the morning the sun cooks the room. Glass was dirty inside and out. Shower caucking was crumbling and black in places.Every one speaks borken English. Prices on everything is high. Of course, it's Miami Beach. I had one more night to stay but gave it up and moved to a Holiday Inn Express next to the airport on my last night because I knew traffic would be bad for my early morning flight and it would take me a long time to check out, wait on car to be brought around. For the money, it's too old and run down.
