A brilliant bombshell of a Miami hotel in the vibrant Art Deco District
This oceanfront boutique hotel brings its own flash in this neighborhood of Art Deco properties. The 200-room property was designed by famed Miami Beach modernist architect Igor B. Polevitzky and makes an impression with its curvy 30-foot high sign and attractive direct oceanfront rooms. Some throwback remnants still remain -- like the fountain by the pool that once doubled as a diving board – but the hotel has kept up with the times. Look for contemporary flair, from poolside DJs to oversized frames of pinup girls.
Highlights
- 1940s Art Deco boutique hotel
- Miami Beach icon that once served as the site of Miss Universe and Miss America pageants
- Indoor and alfresco dining at Terrace Cafe
- DJ-driven poolside events
- Renovated rooms
Rooms
White duvet-topped beds complement rich wood furniture and drapes that open to balconies or windows with partial or full ocean or city views. Framed prints of abstract art mirror the look of the hotel. Suites and a penthouse cater to VIPs, families and executives, with residential amenities such as kitchens and kitchenettes, a washer and dryer (in the penthouse), lounging and dining areas and flatscreen TVs. Wi-Fi can be accessed for an extra fee.
Features
The hotel pays homage to 1940s glamour in its multimillion dollar renovation. The lobby shimmers with its majestic chandelier, marble columns and floor and black-and-white accents. A breezeway reveals hidden banquettes -- perfect for eyeing the scene at the pool. Guests can rent poolside cabanas, a relaxing spot for indulging in other local loves: mojitos and Cuban sandwiches from Terrace Cafe. Shine, the resident club, hosts a global roster of DJs and has a dance floor.

We checkout out after 5 minutes and went elsewhere.
- Didnt have our Orb itz booking on file - Told us they were putting us in a renovated room (but didnt) - Room door was actually falling off the hinges - Balcony door was permanently locked shut - We cancelled our booking and went next door for a great stat. - For the next three days we heard the music blasting from the dance party at the hotel pool. There had been no warning from the hotel that this was happening so we were happy we were not there.

Great hotel for young travellers
The Shelborne is located in the best part of south beach (in my opinion). You're right on the beach and right next to some of the nicest hotels (delano and SLS) which have amazing pools and bars. The hotel itself is very cute. If you reserve a standard (unrenovated room) ask them for an upgrade to a renovated room upon check in. We did that and got upgraded for free! The pool is really nice and chill. Complimentary breakfast is not bad (although we missed it 4 out of 5 days). The beach is wonderful. Not an ideal hotel for older people or families but great for young travelers who are in south beach looking for fun and little sleep. Overall...great experience at the Shelborne! Addy was very helpful at the front desk.

Ask for a room upgrade when you check in (we reserved a standard room and received a renovated room for the same rate).

Perfect South Beach Location
If you are visiting south beach and planning to stay most of the time out of the hotel Shelborne is a perfect choice for u. It is right on a beach and in a center of all restaurants and clubs. While lobby and pool of the hotel are decent, dome of the rooms are still haven't been renovated and look pretty bad. The new rooms are nice, moderate and clean. Though the bathrooms are very small and could have been equipped with better stands for cosmetics!

Just Fair! "The sub charge should be noticed in advance"
we were told by the recption that there is 35$ sub charge per day, which was not mentioned on the web when we made the reservation. we re not happy about this! the sub charge is for breakfast, two free drink in the pool side bar! However, the breakfast was very disappointed, no fruit, no yogurt! All they serve is bread, croissant & 2 choice of cereals. The free drink is servced fr 6-7, but the bar closed at 6, which is another disappointment! the bathroom is worse than a motel bathroom with very poor finish, water temputure of the walk-in shower is very unstable. we told the receptionist, but nothing was fixed. the best thing we like is the heater swiming pool, where we can enjoy swiming at night time!

Decent place nice renovations
Went for a couple days with some friends. There have been massive renovations since the last time I was there, it looks great! Only problem there was constant construction and this was not noted when we booked. Room was clean and staff is super nice. For the price was a great value. Has a nice pool and very very close to the beach!

Terrible experience
I travel Internationally for business and pleasure and have stayed in over 100 different hotels but was appalled by this hotel. First of all the rooms are nothing like the photos. Neither the air conditioner nor the refrigerator was working and when I expressed to upgrade to a new room paying 100 more dollars I had to call the front desk 3 times and visit it twice personally to get an official confirmation. My suitcases were not delivered to my room until several requests were made either... I witnessed several unhappy customers fighting with the staff during my short two day stay. If u want to enjoy ur vacation, do not stay here!

Its Miami so I can't expect perfection just because it costs.
Miami is always overpriced for what you get. The girl at the front desk was nice but she had little to do with the rest of my experience. Once again the hotel has a "pool party" that takes over the whole pool area and though I could go in the pool area, if you are not part of that crowd, it really makes the pool unusable. The room was nice and clean but was missing a few things like a place to put soap in the shower, hand towels, and on the second day only the towels were replaced. The price was extra high since there was a special event so I felt used even for Miami standards.

Horrendous
I have never experienced such horrible conditions or an unprofessional staff in my life. We arrived to the hotel to a trendy reception area and had high hopes for the room. We went to the beach while we waited for our room to be available, upon walking into our room we were appalled by what we saw. Carpets were filthy & stained in the hallway which lead to old tiled floors. The sheets had hair and dirty footprints on them. Our "water view" was a 1/4 of the beach and 3/4 our neighbors room. A woman knocked on the door and proceeded to let herself in and with out saying a word checked the minibar. She was extremely rude when we addressed her and told us that she didn't know any of the answers we had questions to. We didn't want to be difficult as we were only staying for ONE NIGHT-however, the conditions only seemed to worsen. The bathroom was disgusting. There was a toilet (same type that is in a public restroom) and a shower with an open glass door. Showering would produce a pool of water in the bathroom. The icing on the cake was the bugs. At first there were a couple, then they seemed to multiply. On the floor, bed, walls & ceiling. They ranged in size but the largest were the cockroaches. We notified the staff that we were very unhappy and they sent a man up with a can of Raid. Realistically, you are not supposed to go back into the room for an hour or so after you spray bug repellant. We were told to sit in the lobby for 15 minutes. We did as we were told and within 2 minutes of being back in the room a cockroach came out from under the bed. It was approximately 1:30 am and after several calls to neighboring hotels that were booked we refused to stay in this room in such uncomfortable conditions. The manager was incredibly rude and only offered to give us $50 of our $300 back. Ultimately, we had had enough and took a cab at 3 am to a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale where we were flying out of that day. All in all, I cannot say enough about how awful this hotel was. DO NOT STAY HERE. BUGS, DISGUSTING ROOMS, HORRIBLE STAFF.

The Worst
The Shelbourn was the worst experience. The exterior of the hotel is wonderful. The lobby the pool area the hallways are all in great condition and they look like the pictures. On the other hand the actual hotel room was awful! NO AIR! the AC did not work in our room! The room had visible patches on the walls just not presentable at all. the staff were not helpful in placing us in another room I would not recommend anyone to stay here. The continential breakfast was a basket of bread lol.
