Beautiful Hotel
There's not another hotel in So. Beach that equals The National in style, beauty and location. One issue - internet access value is very close to the price = free. Not really good enough for a business traveler.

Needs some work
Two stars at best now for this price. I have stayed there several times over the last few years. Was great at first, but was going downhill each stay. Decided to continue to stay there after the remodel of the cabaña rooms, which are nice enough. But the service is spotty at best and other areas and amenities continue to go downhill. The hotel should be embarrassed to charge for beach use, the chairs are useless, This trip we were only able use the beach 2 of the 4 days we were there as the chairs are so torn, tattered and broken as to not be usable. My neck still hurts. In May we could only able to stand it for 1 ½ of the 3 days there, but as it appeared then that many of the umbrellas were new we thought surely the chairs will be fine by next trip. You used to get 2 towels there, both at the beach or by the pool, but I guess in a cost savings measure have cut people down to one towel both at the beach as well as the pool, almost always last to get the beach chairs out (that is not new though).

Wonderful weekend
We stayed at the new poolside cabana room and the room was very modern and clean and chic. The size was a bit smaller than I was expecting but no complaints here. The balcony that comes with each of the cabana rooms was such a nice addition. The pools were very nice and it was never crowded. There were maybe 20 people in the pool at most at one time but normally more like 5-10 people. The beach staff was accommodating and worked hard to make sure there were chairs and umbrellas around. The chairs and cushions could definitely use some updating but the staff made sure to use 2 cushions per chair to make it more comfortable. We tried the bar (but not the restaurant) and the bartender was extremely friendly. Food at the bar was delicious -- and they certainly are generous with the portions! Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful hotel
At the national you constantly have friendly helpful employees making sure your stay is perfect. From the minute we arrived we had wonderful service. The lobby is clean and neat. The concierge was always helpful. The pool was never too crowded and the servers and bartenders always attentive. The service on the beach was great too. The only downside was the chairs on the beach seemed to be getting old and they sunk down extremely low. Also the room cleaning was not consistent and more than a day went by without clean towels in our room. Everything else was perfect. The location is right where you want to be in south beach and the price wasn't what you would pay at some of the nearby hotels. I will definitely return.

Short drive from hotel
The best two restaurants we ate at were 1500 at Eden roc hotel and scarpetta at the fountainbleu. Do not waste your time and money at the restaurant Ago in the shore club. It is expensive and the food and service was pathetic.

Aging Gem
I have stayed at the National before, when it was newly remodeled. The hotel sits in a great location, but now the rooms are overpriced for what you get. Also their was no fan in the toilet and the windows were sealed. Also the shampoo bottle they provided did not open easily and almost cut my finger. [...] The long pool is nice, but thats it...I will not be returning...

The Cabana Suites were great but the main hotel building needs serious updating...Like NOW. The food was great - breakfast and exceptional salads.

Great Trip!
The hotel was very accommodating and even upgraded us to an ocean view at no charge when we arrived. Clean for the most part, however, we had to ask them to put fresh towels in our room (house keeping took the dirty and left us with one wash cloth). They brought new towels immediately. The only other thing was the standing shower, which clogged every time we took a shower and took a while to drain. The pool is really nice and easy access to the beach.

Perfect vacation!! Want to go back!!!
My husband and I stayed here for some time away from our kids and we loved it! It was our first time to SB and this hotel offers all of the necessary details, and the service was impeccable. Location, location, location. I hate to sound trite but it is. It is perfect- on the beach, on Collins, at the Lincoln intersection. Food, dancing, shopping...We had a memorable dinner at Tiramisu- we can't wait to go again. We walked on the beach, in the city, and didn't drive much at all for that reason. It had it all. The prices are normal it seems for the area, and breakfast was excellent. The state of the city left a little to be desired but unfortunately that is the reality everywhere. And that pool is as awesome as it looks!!

Great location and excellent service
We were in the heart of South Beach. The lobby and entrance were well maintained and I can't say enough about the hotel staff. They were always pleasant and went above and beyond to assist us with tours, dining recommendations, etc. My only complaint would be the size of the rooms and the fact that the resort fee was not included in the pricing package we received. Other than that, we left extremely satisfied!

Entertainment tip:
Long walk from hotel
Skip the nightclubs and try some of the "sidewalk entertainment" like Oceans Ten. It was fantastic!
