Modernist hotel on the north end of Miami Beach made music history

This Collins Avenue hotel holds a prestigious spot in Miami Beach history. The property entertained the Rat Pack, and it was the site of the Beatles' second U.S. performance -- broadcast live on the "Ed Sullivan Show" from the Napoleon Ballroom. Old Hollywood glamour still shines through at this resort, which maintains its status as a lively music venue with a global roster of entertainers at the onsite jazz club. A sizeable pool, expansive stretch of beach and Miami Modernist architecture strengthen the allure.

Highlights
  • Miami Modernist hotel on the north end of Miami Beach
  • A former playground to the Rat Pack and the site of the Beatles' second U.S. performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show"
  • The Famous Jazz Club and Kevin & Caruso's Magic Comedy Show on site
  • Poolside dining at Kon Tiki Tiki Bar
Rooms

The 484 rooms -- including seven junior suites -- reflect a clean, contemporary style with few embellishments. Windows face the ocean, bay or city. Oceanfront rooms encourage guests to take advantage of the vistas via large balconies. Rooms feature tufted or wood headboards, white linens, an adjustable thermostat and cable. Wi-Fi access is covered in the resort fee.

Features
Frank Sinatra and the Beatles no longer entertain at the hotel, but guests will still find a regular lineup of musical acts at The Famous Jazz Club. The club has hosted jazz greats, such as Brandon Marsalis and Spyro Gyra. Head to the Kevin & Caruso's Magic Comedy Show on Saturdays for a festival of pyrotechnics, showgirls, comedy and magic.

An average hotel

The hotel roomm with a king bed was similar in size and features with other hotel rooms in its class. It was at the 10th floor and had a nice bay view. Hotel has a nice swiming pool, olimpic size with a bar beside with water being annoingly sprinkled from both sides of the pool. Food at the bar was of low quality the menue was very limited. I got a stomach upset from a chicken wrap one day. The swiming pool bar musik was loud, the sound system was of poor quality having a lot of static noise. Some very loud bad musik was coming from the neighbour property too. Too much noise polution. Although the hotel was not busy I got a room located at the elevator hall and the elevator noise was heard lightly in the room. Room and common areas were clean.Hotel staff was courteous and professional like. I wouldn't recommend the hotel restaurant for dinner. It is expensive and provides low quality food. The hotel charge you $20 per day additionally to the hotel rate, indiferently if you use or not the hotel swiming pool or its small fitness center. The hotel has only valet parking which charge you additionally $20 a day. There is also a high charge for using the internet at the business center. There are just few restaurants around the hotel. You have to travel 15 minutes to South beach for more. There is a supermarket and a CVS located within walking distance. I rate the hotel with 2.5 stars and not providing value for the money.

There is a nice Tennis Center with a good tennis program for every level and very friendly people just few blocks north of the hotel. It has a wall for tennis practice. It is a charge of $8 per hour for non- residents. It has about 16 courts all lighted. I enjoyed playing tennis there. Area is residential and safe.

My review of Deauville Beach Resort

You can tell this was a very nice hotel back in the day, foyer, pool, location etc...however they need to update the rooms and have the front desk be a little bit more prompt on service.

Nice Location

This hotel is in a very good area of Miami beach. I was dissapointed with the service. When we arrived there was no parking so we had to park 10 blocks aways and take a shuttle. Accomodations were lousy, we asked for a crib for our 6 month old and they indicated there wasn't any. However in speaking with the room cleaner she indicated there was plenty. In addition, no one called to let us know. We had to call several times and finally got a NO. The pool could have been a bit cleaner. Beach was great.

Worst hotel I have stayed at

The hotel staff was very rude and their parking was full so I had to park 5 blocks away in 95 degree heat. I was all dressed to meet a friend and afterward It looked as if I had done a workout. They first offered me a room #419. The carpet and the room was disgusting . Their were carpet stains all over the floor. The furniture looked very old. The bed spread was very old . Then afterward I asked them for another room which they did not even wanted to accomidate me. Also I wanted to speak to the manager on several occasions which he was no where to be found. The assistant manager was going to give me a complimentary breakfast which they never did. The beach was very dirty and only a few lounge chairs available. And all extremely dirty. This hotel is not a 3 star hotel. Its more like 1.5 star. I was very disappointed

You get what you pay for

I was pretty dissatisfied with this hotel. I will not go back. Here are some reasons. The valet parking was the only option offered. The first time that I checked out my car, I waited for an hour and a half. The valet manager blamed his staff the staff blamed the manager. I heard other guests say that after their initial dealings with the valet people, they chose to park on the street and incur parking tickets. They said it was cheaper and more convenient. The pool was OK. There were plenty of lounge chairs by the pool, but only 12 umbrellas. Needles to say I only had an umbrella on 2 days. One day they actually ran out of pool towels. I thought that this was the resort fee was for. There was NO service available at the beach. If you wanted a chair or umbrella, you needed to bring your own. The restaurant at the hotel was not open a single minute during my 7 day stay. Breakfast buffet was offered at the hotel piano bar. Not a big variety of food at the buffet for the price charged. On the day before I left, I decided that I did not feel like going out to dinner, so I just wanted to order room service. I dialed room service and let it ring for a couple of minutes and no one picked up. I called the front desk and asked about room service and I was told that they do not offer room service on Mondays. What a joke! Here is my summary: If you stay here, don't bring a car. Don't plan on laying by the pool, unless you want to burn to a crisp (not enough umbellas). Don't plan on using the beach ( no beach services). Bring your own food or plan on dining out for every meal. I don not ever plan to use the Deauville Hotel and Resort again.

My review of Deauville Beach Resort

Note the following: Staff was not friendly. Valid parking was not available upon our arrival. Had to park 4 blocks away and be picked up by shuttle back to hotel. Was advised that shuttle will take us back in the morning to pick up vehicle are we will charged parking. Shuttle was not available and had to walk. Hotel was not up to the definition of ?resort?. Location not convenient to main Miami attractions. Beach associated with hotel was very dirty. Not picked up daily. On morning there was load construction going on ( drilling for 1 hour was constant). Only one dinning option. Pool was in need of repairs.
