Modernist hotel on the north end of Miami Beach made music history

This Collins Avenue hotel holds a prestigious spot in Miami Beach history. The property entertained the Rat Pack, and it was the site of the Beatles' second U.S. performance -- broadcast live on the "Ed Sullivan Show" from the Napoleon Ballroom. Old Hollywood glamour still shines through at this resort, which maintains its status as a lively music venue with a global roster of entertainers at the onsite jazz club. A sizeable pool, expansive stretch of beach and Miami Modernist architecture strengthen the allure.

Highlights
  • Miami Modernist hotel on the north end of Miami Beach
  • A former playground to the Rat Pack and the site of the Beatles' second U.S. performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show"
  • The Famous Jazz Club and Kevin & Caruso's Magic Comedy Show on site
  • Poolside dining at Kon Tiki Tiki Bar
Rooms

The 484 rooms -- including seven junior suites -- reflect a clean, contemporary style with few embellishments. Windows face the ocean, bay or city. Oceanfront rooms encourage guests to take advantage of the vistas via large balconies. Rooms feature tufted or wood headboards, white linens, an adjustable thermostat and cable. Wi-Fi access is covered in the resort fee.

Features
Frank Sinatra and the Beatles no longer entertain at the hotel, but guests will still find a regular lineup of musical acts at The Famous Jazz Club. The club has hosted jazz greats, such as Brandon Marsalis and Spyro Gyra. Head to the Kevin & Caruso's Magic Comedy Show on Saturdays for a festival of pyrotechnics, showgirls, comedy and magic.

Very nice!

Everything that was stated by Orbitz was straight to the point. What u see is what you get. No extra fees other than the valet parking ($20) and the resort fee ($10) per day. The valet parking is very slow, so be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes to get your car. The beach was beautiful and the room was veryyy clean. Would go back anytime! It was really worth it.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

It is more convenient to take a cab if you are hanging out. Parking is ridiculous everywhere!

south beach

ok well this was my first time in south beach so i didnt know how far this hotel was from all night life. so if u are going to miami for the night life an to party this hotel is not for you. it is to far from all the night life an cab rides will really hurt your pocket enless you are renting your own car. but besides that the hotel is very clean an right on the ocean so you can not go wrong if you are looking to just relax on the beach an eat at a nice place at night. but if you are looking to party till the early morning like me then this is not a great hotel.

mixed feelings...

Needed a late check-in and when I pulled up to hotel the valet parking was full. Was told that I had to find my own parking on the street with the meters. No parking garages anywhere near and had to drive around for over 30 min looking for a spot. It was a Saturday night and very busy. Single female and had to walk with bags in the dark a couple blocks to the hotel. Had to get up and put 2 hrs of coins in meter starting at 8am Sunday morning. Also should know that you will pay $20/day valet if they aren't full and also a $10 resort fee per person/day and I didn't even have a chance to use the pool or go out to the beach. They did give me a full ocean view room that was very nice...!!??

Great place to relax

the experience was good. i had a really good time. The only thing i didn't like, was that they closed the pool area and the access to the beach at 10 o'clock. to access the beach you needed to walk around the hotel down 3 blocks to get to the beach after 10pm. and the hotel rooms needed to have at least a microwave!! (i didnt like that, espically when you have little kids) but other then that everything was good.

Decent but Plain Hotel

Hotel was decent, bed was comfortable. I liked the Pool arrangement, more importantly close proximity to beach. But, there was no variety in food, hotel was too plain & poorly illuminated and the guest entrance to the lobby was used as a car parking lot, mostly at night and morning, which made checking out or checking in pretty difficult as the mace of vehicles in the drive blocks entrance/exit making movement difficult.

North Beach close to supermarkets.

It is a nice place to stay if you would like to be near supermarkets. It is located in North Beach so the hussle and bussle of South Beach is a bus or taxi ride away. Valet parking is very limited as they park the cars all on the ramp of the hotel for $20 a day. Street parking is available in Beach lots for $8 a day but have to buy ticket for display by 8AM daily. The rooms are average and aged. The pool was great but they close it at sunset. If you dont return the towels by 6PM you are charged an additional $15. Overall, it is a cheap place to stay with a wonderrful view and pool. A good place to stay if you don't need the amenities most newer hotels offer.
