- Lotus Lounge
- The Lotus Lounge, Bar & Restaurant From the day it opened, the Lotus Lounge made waves. It's a Lounge. It's a Bar. It's a superb oceanfront Restaurant. The Miami Herald dubbed it the "Best New Restaurant of 2005". The 2-level Lotus Lounge offers both indoor seating (air-conditioned) and covered outdoor seating. Regulars often prefer to "lounge" and people-watch while sipping cocktails on the stylish balcony overlooking the street and ocean. The chef's specialty can be best described as "Mediterranean meets Miami". The food takes advantage of local delicacies to remain fresh and inventive. As you might expect, the seafood is first-rate. Start with the Lotus Shrimp Cocktail; Spicy Steamed Jumbo Shrimp served with a Mint-Mango-Pineapple Dipping Sauce. Entrees include Seared Ahi Tuna with Sesame-Pepper Crust and a delicate Crab and Lobster Tortelli. The menu changes daily. Entrees $10-$30 / Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Stylish Casual Attire.

Stay somewhere else.
It wasn't the best hotel. It's better to stay off the strip and get your money's worth.

I could have stayed home!
I live in Fort Lauderdale, but just for a weekend getaway, I booked a two-night stay at this hotel for its location right on the beach. Unfortunately, the pictures on the website were misleading. The decor in the hotel was old and so was the furniture. Bathroom was very small and water pressure was poor...not exactly what you expect from a hotel on the famous South Beach. Upon check-in, there was no front desk personnel and we waited 5 minutes for someone to attend to us. That night, we went out for a "night on the town" and returned at 3 AM. Drunken neighbors down the hall were rowdy. We called the front desk to complain, but they still kept us awake for an hour before we could finally get some sleep. The final night, we got home earlier at 1 AM. It was quiet at first, but the neighbors were back and this time, louder than ever. I stepped into the hallway at 2:30 AM and found them all sitting on the floor outside their rooms laughing and carrying on. I reminded them that we were trying to sleep and would appreciate it if they either kept it down or went into their rooms. They agreed, only to start up again a few minutes later. We called the front desk to complain, and the rep said he would come up. I heard him come up, but that didn't stop them. They then decided to knock on our door intermittently. We alerted the front desk again, but all he could say was he would try again. This continued for about 1.5 hours. The following morning, we checked out at 9AM and complained to the front desk about our night. She told us nothing was reported. I asked what they were going to do for us, and she got the supervisor. The supervisor said they couldn't do anything because nothing was reported and she couldn't verify what really happened. I was furious and demanded she call her night attendant. She did and he confirmed everything we stated. She then directed the agent to deduct $50 from the security deposit from the noisy guests. At that point, I said "OK, that's great for you...but how how does that benefit us? She then offered us free breakfast, but would not be served until 10:00 AM. Really...start serving breakfast at 10:00 AM on a Monday??? She offered to take off 15% from one night and I said, "Forget it! I will just dispute my charges with American Express and see if you get your money then." Ultimately, Cheap Tickets negotiated a $60.00 credit for the inconvenience. I would never stay at the Cavalier again!

hasn't been renovated since the 70's!!!
looks like nothing has been done to it since the 70's. everything is worn down, including paint in bathtub, tv cables are hanging loose, city old carped and torn sheets with stains in it. the location is perfect, right on the beach but that's all. if you can spent a little more i would look further....

Started off Rocky, turned out to be ok.
Our stay here was nothing fancy, the place is older but still nice, and in a great location. The only real problem we had was that room we received initially seemed ok at first, a little small and old but ok. Until the morning, when we woke up to bed bugs! YUK! They were all over and nasty of course. I immediately notified the front desk and they upgraded us to another, much bigger and better room. NO BUGS! The remaining nights here were great the bed was comfortable and the room was bigger and more updated. Just be advised to check the bed first, before you get to comfy!!

Incredibly Grim
We chose this hotel because it was one of the least expensive hotels on South Beach during New Year's, when most area hotels jack their rates way, way up. Knowing this full well, we didn't have the highest expectations for the Cavalier. Even still, there is only one word for this place: GRIM. Our room was a painted a very unappealing shade of brownish-yellow, the polyester bedspreads really could have used a wash, my feet got filthy from the tile floors when I forgot to wear flip-flops, there was no Direct TV satellite signal whatsoever, no phone in the room, no iron, no hairdryer, no nothing. There were 3 mis-matched lamps in the room, only one of which worked. There was an electronic safe in the closet, but given the bleak nature and lack of upkeep in the hotel & room, there was no way I was going to trust we could ever open it again. We were given one large towel (for 2 people), as well as 2 hand towels - no bath mat/towel. They do at least have free wi-fi, and I was able to get a beach towel from the front desk. The location is impeccable, especially for the New Year's festivities on Ocean Drive. But that's all you can say about this place. I can't honestly recommend it to anyone - It's so grim that I can't say the savings are worth it.

Great location Terrible Service No amenities
I would never stay at this hotel again. The rooms are very gloomy and old. I couldn't even open then blinds to my windows because maintenance workers next door could see into my room. The sink handles were broken the bed sheets looked very old, the walls were so thin you can hear every conversation on the entire floor and there were stains on the bath towels. There is no room service or maid service. Nobody comes to clean the room or bring fresh towels. All around bad experience.

Bestfriend weekend trip
The hotel was in a great location close to everything, especially the beach. The staff at times was a little confused and would not have an answer for some questions, including information on the super shuttle to the airport. But they were all friendly. The food at their restaurant was great as well.

The only thing good is the location
Staff was never at desk. Very noisy. People were rude slamming doors. And people were smoking marajuana where you could smell it through the hotel. I would never stay there. There were holes in the bathroom. The bathroom looked dirty. They needed to change the shower curtains and we had water bugs in the room. The only good thing was the location.
