Dramatic Miami International Airport hotel set on a blue lagoon

Executive travelers with an eye for design will feel at home at this European-style hotel. The 218-room property is set on a picturesque blue lagoon. The building captivates with bold details such as a grand tiled lobby with red leather club chairs and a wrought-iron banister and Art Deco lighting fixtures. Guest rooms deliver their own sense of style with abstract artwork, piped sofas and camel-colored upholstery. The outdoor pool is dramatic and has a waterfall cascading from a red canopy.

Highlights
  • French-styled, Art Deco luxury hotel on a blue lagoon
  • Free shuttle to and from Miami International Airport
  • La Riviera restaurant and Le Bar on site
  • Indoor and outdoor space for up to 700 guests
  • Outdoor pool and fitness center
Rooms

Carpeted rooms tastefully incorporate familiar zebra prints. Beige upholstery and walls keep the focus on artful accessories, such as abstract paintings and framed black-and-white photos. Each room has either a king bed or two double beds, a view of the Miami skyline or blue lagoon, free bottled water upon arrival and feather bed and duvet. Guests can access Wi-Fi for an additional fee.

Features

Just five minutes from Miami International Airport, the hotel often hosts business travelers and visitors heading to nearby Coral Gables.

The hotel is a stylish alternative to more conventional environments for corporate events. Parlor rooms are decorated with a striking Bird of Paradise motif in green, orange, gold and blue and cater to smaller groups. A sizeable terrace moves the networking outside for parties of up to 700. Zebra prints lend whimsy to and lighten the formality of executive events.

Very international feel.

We stayed two days in Miami after a cruise. We chose Sofitel since we had stayed in one in BudaPest which may have been the nicest room ever. This was unfortunately the same as staying in any other hotel. In fact it was cheaper than most. It boiled down to poor maintenance. The tub caulking looked like a 4 year old did it. A lot of small things. The staff was fine and scenery on the lagoon was great. The worst were the international guests. They were loud, rude with screaming kids every where all night.

My review of Sofitel Miami

There was not anything extraordinary that stood out about this hotel. There was not anything that compelled me to say I have to stay at that hotel again The atomosphere was nice and so was the staff. The room was comfortable, although the carpet could use replacing. I was not overwhelmingly impressed, but I was not dis-satisfied either. I probably will not pick this hotel to stay, I guess I'm use to a bit more from a hotel experience. I stayed only one night.

Good airport location, but...

Friendly atmosphere. The rooms are nicely appointed but very close to the airport and noise from runways is pronounced (my room was on a floor end or corner, so maybe the worst from the standpoint). The restaurant offered a good selection, the staff was friendly and otherwise a good location at a good price

Very Good but not as it looks

The hotel is indeed a good class hotel, hotel staff is very friendly and fast. Hotel condition needs a little attention although it was very clean, don´t get fooled by the pool photo it is definitely a very small pool and poorly mantained but with a great view of the lagoon. The $8 dollars per night self parking is never mentioned.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

South Beach nightlife it's not less than 15 minutes away by car or taxi but maybe taking a cab there it's worth it if you consider avoiding the traffic in the area and the very hard it is to park.

Sofitel Miami

First time there. Hotel was not full, but nonetheless they gave me a room that faced the front enterance on a low floor. No idea why hotels do this for single men who are potential bonanzas for them--I think they think we don't care, which is a bad assumption. On the plus side, the staff is nice, the pool and gym are okay for 1 night, and the food is good. Very limited newspapers. (No details about phone charges in the room. Called the desk to ask what an unlimited #800 call costs, was told is was $1.00. When I went to check out, I saw a charge for $6-7. Complained and they were quick to credit it.) I will give them another chance. It is very convenient to the airport for a 1 night stay, and I'm sure there is worse.

Very Nice stay

5 minutes from the airport, right in the middle of everything this hotel is in a very nice spot, quiet, recent remodeled and a fare price… very nice to take your kids to swim in a kids level pool that also offer a deep part for adults. Great view to the lagoon and comfortable bedrooms

Loved the french accents of the employee

The employees were very welcoming at first. I'm not so sure we gave them a big enough tip, because after that they didn't seem to be very helpful. They put us in a non smoking room when we had reserved a smoking room, which we were told they only had four of. After making us go get our own bags out of the non smoking room they left us to sit in the lobby for an hour and a half with bags. The room was right next to something running constently making for a humming noise all day and night. Loud enough to drown out the noise from the airplanes flying directly overhead. It did seem to be an older hotel, very clean, very comfortable beds, no refidgerator in the room. No one was available to help us out with the many bags that we had. They did help us with getting our airline tickets printed out via the internet. You have to go see the conceige to do that. The dining room was very expensive and room service will bring you a burger for $16.00.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

You can take about a ten minute walk to a burger king or chinese resterant. A publix supermarket is in the same shopping plaza. Not to many people speak english it is a spanish community. The hotel offers a shuttle bus to a mall for ten dollars a person. This hotel does offer a shuttle bus to the airport leaving every thirty minutes. Cost us $35.00 to take a taxi to this hotel from the cruise ship. Not so sure I would use this hotel again I get the same kind of treatment from a marriot or quality inn. We payed $104.00 for this so called luxury hotel.

Enjoyable

My boyfriend and I are both big fans of the Sofitel brand. The rooms, even standards, are normally large and the service excellent. We stayed in a standard room for 3 nights on the 'I Love Chocolate' offer (pay for 2 nights, stay for 3 + free breakfast + chocolate "treat" one afternoon of your choice). This particular Sofitel's room was small but very clean. The service at check-in and breakfast was wonderful, but the food at breakfast left something to be desired (though the crepes, as expected, were AMAZING). We did not take advantage of the pool, fitness room or bar. The chocolate "treat" was hot chocolate + 2 pieces of 2 different types of cake - 1 of which was a dense brownie with walnuts that I couldnt eat due to an allergy. It was not quite what I had imagined. The location is close to some good restaurants if you ask the concierge, but it's a drive to Miami beach. In addition, you DO hear the large jets taking off. Stay for business or before heading out on a cruise, but dont stay for an actual vacation.
