4 Stars Not Created Equal
extropy Oct 25, 2009
I've stayed in 4-star hotels before, and this was not it. There was an iron burn in the carpet, stained shower curtain, ants ... in the room (and I was staying in one of the top floors), the furniture had nicks and dings, the closet doors were made in the 70s...the room was nice, generally clean and the hotel was in an excellent location, just not the 4 stars I was expecting. A friend of mine who is a local, however, said that for Miami Beach, this was 4 stars...so perhaps it's all relative. If this was 4 stars, I can't imagine what a 2-star or 3-star property would look like.

Customer Service not so good
Miss Drea Oct 14, 2009
To begin with the check-in time is at 4 so if you get there before that all they do is store your bags. They charge you a fee ... plus tax to stay there everyday so you wonder why you are paying to stay there in the first place. The staff inside not very friendly. One of the locks was broken on the door and chips on the walls and desk in the room. The fact they they told us they only had 4 refrigerators for 500 rooms was baffling to me. The location was pretty good and the pools were great. They also did not have enough bath towels.

Filthy Carpet......The minute i stepped off the elevator i noticed the filthy carpet & was afraid to see my room. ... Well....that carpet was filthy too. And, i supposedly had an upgraded room. I had 2 rooms...one room needed to have the shower head, sink stopper and tub stopper replaced per our request of poor function. (they were quick with that)We were told only 10% of the hotel was renovated. They need to shut down and finish it all! Of course we got the rooms that still needed renovated. Also, even though i prepaid for the rooms, i was still hit up for daily $19.00 fee per room, for the use of towels and chairs on the beach. I thought i already paid for that! The staff was rude and arguing with each other in the halls. Sheeezzz....i was supposed to be on vacation!!!! Oh yeah, the pool stayed filthy and unvacuumed the whole 5 days we were there. It was a cloudy, bug-filled mess. The good things about this place was it was in a great location, the beds were comfortable and the door staff was friendly. The staff at the desk was friendly too. They need to close down for a few months and completely renovate so people like myself don't spend over $2000.00 and get a room with filthy worn carpet. It was pretty gross.

It was great but I'm sad about my short trip. But the roomservice was really good. If you go to Wet Willies do not drink the ... drinks alone make sure you mix them. At the Cleavelander the Piña Coladas are great. The best part of the hotel is the beach being right off the pool.

Great location, bad customer service!
Party Girl Aug 18, 2009
Overall, the Royal Palms is in a great location, and there are plenty of dining/shopping options within walking distance. The ... hotel also has two pools and complimentary beach chairs/umbrellas on the beach, which is definitely a plus when the sun is scorching hot. The bad-- Customer service is probably not in Royal Palms' vocabulary. Specifically, the concierge gives out wrong information about places, they won't listen to any requests made for taxis in advance, and no one likes bringing anything up to your room, without mugging you. Additionally, our tub was not clean when we checked in, and the sheets smelled dirty. Showers flooded the floors, and we couldn't find the thermostat to adjust the temperature. I'd probably go next door to the Loew's next time around.

Den Aug 17, 2009
We had reserved a room with a king size bed, they gave us a room with a double bed. Finally, they gave us a room with a king ... size bed but the carpet in the room was stained with dried blood all over!!! Room service forgot to do the room on one occasion, the sink where the coffee machine was had no running water! I could go on like this for a while. For an hotel so well located in South Beach, in the middle of the art deco area, it is very poorly managed.

Be prepared to pay an additional 20 dollars a night for a "resort fee" that really isn't worth much. Parking is even worse at ... 40 dollars a night with few other options. The room had mold coming out from under the carpet, a shower head coming off the wall, and carpet that was stained and coming apart. Really the only good thing about the Royal Palms was it was right on the beach.

My stay at the Unroyal Palm
sheena Aug 9, 2009
My overall stay at this hotel was ok until the unfortunite night at the upstair pool side. I was with five friends swiming ... in the pool for about 30min. when I decided to get out to get my things they were gone. Now I know Miami is a ruff place and you need to look out for yourself, but never in a million years did I think to watch my things while under water. Now this hotel has video cameras that do not record when your being robbed. But they do recored the next day. The staff will act concerned but they will do nothing. I complained to many people and staff members after this incedent but was frowned uponed like I was being a probblem.I Heard some of the hotel staff saying some awful things in FRENCH about me and my friends, What they didnt know is I speak french also. So I'll just say that I'll never stay there again.

CindyJ Aug 2, 2009
Very disappointed, I was expecting a 4 star, manager said they hadn't been 4 stars in years. We were put in the older section ... which consisted of dirty carpeting & mold, no clock, running toilet. Management listened to complaints but did not correct. I tried to get a room on the newer side but told they didn't have any. Old side needs to be condemned, bordered being uninhabitable. Refuse older section!!! Also held $300 on my AX card for any damages that they may have incurred
