Miami Riu hotel

We have stayed at the Riu system before and were expecting more from this hotel. We were on a conference/fun trip. Location ... was perfect for us as the conference was just a 10 minute walk on the boardwalk. Need a taxi to get down into South Beach...but it was just a $6 ride or so. Pool is nice and the beach is just off the property. Water was warm in November. The rooms are nothing special...flat white walls, older looking bathrooms, and all rooms were double beds. Beds were comfortable though. Staff don't seem to know/share much info...even the concierge (which is the gifts shop person) Went to the breakfast buffet one morning and it wasn't that great. Better off going across the street and north one block to a little cafe called Pontos. Excellent food and prices. Lincoln Street has some great places to eat and a fun experience to just walk and hang out in at night. Slightly cheaper than Ocean Blvd.

There is a little market/cafe about a block and a half north and across the street called Pontos. Excellent breakfast sandwiches and pastries....also great sandwiches at great prices.

We travel all the time. We have been to third world countries. I can stay at a bad hotel, and still have a good time. We have ... stayed at this chain's hotel in Mexico. Our stay in Miami was bad from the start. First they gave us a room already assigned to another family, so we walked in on another couple- awkward!!! The upgrade room was not much better. The carpet was extremely dirty, our room was never cleaned while we were there. We asked for towels, we got them at 2:00am. They do not provide seatng for you on the beach. You are nickled and dimed for everything. I expected more. I know we were not staying at Trump's place, but this was very poor service.

Try to get a car with e-tolls set up in it... Florida likes tolls and the cash lines are long and slow. Also, along A1A most restaurants are in hotels. I highly recommend Monty's in Coconut Grove.

Nice hotel right on beach. I would give it 3.5 stars. Beach has sufferred erosion and has rocks to try to retain sand ... thereby diminishing beauty. Boardwalk is nice and you can walk for miles. Heavily foreign clientelle, not a bad thing, but a lot of people smoke in the common areas outside. Pool is clean and well kept and cabana bar is nice. Unfortunately, pool closes at 7:30pm and there is no hot tub. Elevators are very slow. Staff is very attentive. Valet is $17/24 hours and staff is friendly, albiet a bit slow. Expect 5-10 minutes to get your car.

Riu Florida
Mike Oct 26, 2009
We enjoyed the stay, we used the pool and the beach - good beach access. Most things were convenient, but there are not many ... restaurants all that close by. Morton's Steakhouse is just a few blocks north, but the good part of South Beach is over 20 blocks away. Cabs however, are easy to get. I noticed that most of the guests were more towards middle aged couples, with a few younger couples, but very few children, at least while we were there. Our room was a 4th floor facing the ocean, one floor higher would have significantly improved our view as we looked over the roof of the mezzaninve level and couldn't see much of the pool deck area.

Andrej Oct 9, 2009
The hotel was good, friendly staff, perfect location, close to the beach and shopping places. I would strongly recommend the ... room with ocean view, it's amazing. The swimming pool area is small, but it was not a problem since we wanted to spend time on the beach anyways. The beach bar and cafe are great. The only thing that you have to take into consideration when you decide to eat at the beach bar is that taxes and tip are not included in the price, so you don't know exactly how much you'll have to pay for the food/drinks. 10% tax + 15% gratuity will be added automatically to your bill.

Mark-Front Desk Agent at Philly Hotel. Jul 23, 2009
The hotel was very nice in the lobby, outdoor, and around the pool/bar area. The hotel rooms were average plain rooms like ... staying at the Days Inn Motel or Motel 6. The rooms could use some updating. The standard rooms do not have balconies. No flat screen TV and the shower was not powerful. Im not that picky and the room didnt matter to me because my friends and I were on the beach all day and at night we went to south beach. We used to the room for showers and a couple of hours of sleep. It is in a great location. You can walk or catch a $10 cab ride to the nice part of south beach like lincoln or 10th st.

Go to D'Vine. It is a nice hookah spot with different types of music including arabic. They have outdoor seating, GREAT food. Prices are $12-$20 for dinner. Not expensive. Drinks are $10-$12. It was a very relaxed and laid back place. Not a club type of atmosphere because I do not club. It is located on Lincoln off of washington ave. Go there because its like a mall that has at least 50 restaurants and shops in that perimeter. You will enjoy it. Lincoln is between 16th and 17th st by the way.

The Riu South Beach was located on a beautiful stretch of beach in South Miami. Hotel staff was friendly and tried hard to ... meet the needs of their guests. Hotel room was very basic. If you're looking for a room of luxury keep looking. The pool area was top notch and the view from the room was 5 star. The location of the hotel was great if you like the night clubs. You can visit the best clubs in town for about a $5 cab ride. I would suggest this hotel for location and view if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room. You are right on the Miami board walk and can walk for hours enjoying the view of the Atlantic. I would stay again for the location.

this motel is at a great location, the staff that is not working the front desk are very friendly.the front desk are very hard ... to under stand .the man that answers the house phone acts like it takes all of his energy just to talk, very hard to understand, and if you have two questions you will need to call back becuase he just hangs up after answering the fist question.they did not tell us not to drink te water at check in but in there hotel book it says the water is not drinkable.tis is a older hotel with only one working elevator that is very slow.
