I'd do it again
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I was there for Art Basel Miami when the town was packed. (I know; when isn't it?) This hotel offered an oasis from the madness further south. It's pool area was okay but the staff was friendly and helpful. I generally had drinks at the hotel next door and came back here to retire, That said, the rooms were bright, clean and quiet, That is all I was looking for so...I'd do it again

Humble but nice
The stay at the Riu hotel was pleasent, not fabulous but good. The hotel was in a great location, there was always a taxi and there was a bus stop right out front. The pool area was extremely nice. The beds were very comfortable and upon check in...we found the rooms to be clean and very fresh smelling. The hotel is not a place to go if you are looking for an experience, it is very relaxed...but not a party or social atmosphere at all. The staff was a slow in response when we called for towels, and in the morning the cleaning person just comes in..I would stay there again on business...but I think for absolute fun...I would stay somewhere else. Overall, I think its great for families, but not so much for singles. Great for business..but not so much for pleasure. Great for leisure...but not if you are looking for a social atmosphere.

Lincoln Drive is where a number of shops and great food are. It is a short drive, but a long walk. Washington Drive is where the nightlife is...again...short drive...but long walk.

Hotel Melting Pot
Upon my arrival at the Riu, I was greeted by a bellman who must have been from Puerto Rico. He escorted me to the front desk, where I was greeted by a young lady who was from Switzerland. Our Room and View was spectacular. We met someone new everyday from a different part of the world. And Our pool side bartender was the most helpful of all. We were treated like royalty. I highly recommend The Riu Beach Hotel In miami Florida. The Riu has the greatest staff and the nicest pool in all of South Beach. I will be returning and Staying at the Riu.

Seedy
Our first impression was poor when the bellmen at the entrance ignored us and our rather heavy bags. The rooms have no coffee makers and none is available until 7:30 am,lousy shower,no free papers ,all buffet no menus. wait staff in resturant were friendly and helpful, check in people were also helpful and friendly. Pool was ok. Would spend more to stay at a nicer place next time.

Better than expected
The Riu was a pleasant surprise due to the fact that the write ups we had read were not falttering. We found the facility to be very nice with a large pool and only steps from the beach. The Staff was very friendly and the one restaurant offered buffet or ala carte. We really enjoyed our stay. They were remodeling several floors but work was almost unnoticeable.

Long walk from hotel
$6.00 cab ride (17 blocks) to Lincoln Road. There are a large number of very good restaurants, better than South Beach (Ocean Blvd)especially if youare eating at night.Lots of shops to browse also.
