Family-friendly hotel near South Beach with pools and breakfast buffet
All-inclusive travelers might know the name Riu from past vacations, but this Miami Beach property is different with bookings including room only. The 284-room hotel has direct beach access, an adult and children's swimming pools and a poolside bar and grill. An extensive breakfast buffet -- which includes on the spot cooking stations -- draws the regulars and guests can pay separately. South Beach's major attractions, from the Art Deco District to Lincoln Road Mall, are less than two miles away.

Key West family
Old Hotel, nice location
The hotel has seen better days, the location is great, (except for the fact that it is kind of far from the shoppping dining areas), the beach is beautiful, but the hotel itself is old. The rooms are clean, but the carpets thoroughout the building were dirty. There are only two elevators, so there are constant waits for them, for a hotel that size, they should have at least four... The restaurant is definitely not worth the $20 per person fare, the buffet was tasteless to say the least. Lots of restaurants nearby which would be well below the $20 per person amount. We ordered water to save, and stood up and started going through the buffet, when we were back, we were surprised to find $3.00 water bottles for each person, which bumped up the amount by $18.00, not to sound cheap, but if I wanted bottled water, I would have ordered some myself, we confronted the waiter and he said we should have asked for that... Overall, we should have looked around better, for the money spent, I am sure there are better deals in South Beach.

There is a cuban cafeteria two blocks up the road that has great sandwiches, coffe, and pastries, the walk can be done on the boardwalk. Great place for lunch or breakfast.

Nice experience overall
nice overall experience; no coffee pot in the room, that was a bummer; limited food service, very good breaffast buffet, no lunch except at pool bar, average buffet at night. Enjoyed the pool and the beach access. Loved the beach chair rental lady.

Morton's Steakhouse nearby, very overpriced, slow service, poor chefs preparing very average steak dinners; management tried to appease when I was asked how the meal was and I said "average, at best." I think they mean well, but for a meal that cost 2 almost $200, the experience was less than great...like I said, average at best.

Great location for the $$$
The location was excellent and the pool there was nice. They even had a ping pong table by the pool. The rooms were very spacious. There is construction going on next door but not sure if it gets noisy due to it being that we were there on a weekend.

Desperate need of upgrades!!
The hotel was very old and needs major renovations. The views were nice, but the balcony did not drain rain water very well. At one time this would have been a spectacular hotel, but that was many years ago. The $100.00 stay at Comfort inn the night before was much better.

great for the price
The room was clean and comfortable, but a bit worn down. The carpet was old and stained, the bathroom could use some updating. The hotel was nice and right on the beach. It's in a quiet area. It was a great deal for the price compared to many other hotels on the beach. The concierge was a kid whose main job is to work the small hotel gift shop. She couldn't help us. The staff was friendly.

Fun 2 days with the family
We spent a great 2 days relaxing before setting sail on a family cruise. We loved the acccomodations and the staff was very helpful.

The hotel set us up with a limosine that took us to a great restaurant and then from there we could walk to several places. After we just had to call for the service to pick us up (available until 11:00 pm.
