The 284-room hotel has direct beach access, an adult and children's swimming pools and a poolside bar and grill. An extensive breakfast buffet -- which includes on the spot cooking stations -- draws the regulars and guests can pay separately.  South Beach's major attractions, from the Art Deco District to Lincoln Road Mall, are less than two miles away.

Highlights

  • Children's and adult swimming pools
  • Extensive breakfast buffet
  • Close to South Beach nightlife and attractions
  • Coral restaurant with terrace

Rooms

Guests choose from superior rooms and superior rooms with ocean views. Copper-colored linens, curtains and carpets achieve a tropical feel, while standards like LCD TVs and ceiling fans lend comfort. Basic amenities cover satellite TV, central air and a mini refrigerator. Some rooms have balconies and can interconnect with other rooms.

Features

Palm-tree lined grounds and a well-rounded buffet pamper guests aiming for the resort experience. A manicured pool area -- complete with children's and adult pools -- is the place to lounge when visitors aren't using the gym or dining at Alligator, the poolside bar and grill, or Coral, another spot for alfresco dining. Coral restaurant requires men to wear long trousers at dinner.

"The bad, the terrible, and the worse"

This trip compared to my previous trips was horrible! The hotel had a hidden charge that was not listed. When I went to Las Vegas in February it was fantastic, and there was no hidden charges. They were up front about additional fees. No one in the Hotel spoke english. The hotel room was dark, dank, and dem. I was surprised when the Hotel had absolutely no wash clothes!!!!! I would NEVER stay at the RIU Miami Beach Hotel again, or any other RIU for that matter!

Not worth it

Not what expected. Pictures do not reflect reality. The room was horrible. A waste of money. The food was expensive and terrible. Really the worst experience and we went with our kids.

Abysmal, more motel than 4-star hotel

Service and accommodations are not at 4-star level. Both more akin to a motel. Also, location is not really South Beach. The Lincoln Dr strip is on 17th, Ocean Dr starts even lower. The hotel is on 31st. The surrounding area is not pleasant either. The hotel is surrounded by abandoned building that are falling apart.

ok

The hotel is ok. pool is nice. Standard Latino service..at times slow, and with an attitude. We had a nice ocean side room. Rooms are large, but very sparsly furnished

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

The best resturants are on Lincoln Street about 1 1/2 mile toward south beach. It is a nice walk along the board walk. Do not eat on Ocean Blvd. Most everwhere is a rip off. High prices and lousy food!! The people watching is better on Lincoln. It is a nice pedestrian street.

Riu Flordia Beach

This is a great economical option that has a great pool and is right on the beach! It is a little further away from everything, but a short bus ride for $2 will get you to Licoln Rd. The ocean view room is worth the extra money as the rooms and bathrooms are bigger. The rooms are outdated, but clean and serve their purpose.

Great for the Price

When we arrived early they were very helpful. They were willing to store our luggage and let us use the pool area. After further check they had a room available and let us check in super early. It was great. The hotel was clean as well as the room. The room was a good size, and the cleaning lady did a great job on the room. The pool area is nice, enough space to lay out and is one of the better ones in Miami beach. Being American, just expect going in that you wont understand what anyone is saying. All in all a good experience.

it was a quick getaway

It was ok, being that I booked my trip last minute during spring break. It was ok for the money, not the best but not the worst. My main concern was easy access to the beach, and that it was. The hall ways had a funky smell, that was a turn off. The t.v.'s were not flat screen, with it being 2011 and all I would of expected the room amenities to be upgraded. Overall it was not that bad, if your like me, and you only stay in the room to sleep then you won't mind the room. Definitely not the place to go for a honeymoon.

Great views, location and beach.

The hotel was a very good value considering the price of hotels in Miami Beach. It has an ideal location on the beach and the pool and surrounding area was very nice. It is a little far from the "action" at South Beach, but only an inexpensive cab ride away, which is a value when compared to parking cost in that area. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. Only negatives were the limited dining options inside the hotel, no coffee service in the room and the front desk staff were a little stiff and slow at check in.
