The 284-room hotel has direct beach access, an adult and children's swimming pools and a poolside bar and grill. An extensive breakfast buffet -- which includes on the spot cooking stations -- draws the regulars and guests can pay separately.  South Beach's major attractions, from the Art Deco District to Lincoln Road Mall, are less than two miles away.

Highlights

  • Children's and adult swimming pools
  • Extensive breakfast buffet
  • Close to South Beach nightlife and attractions
  • Coral restaurant with terrace
  • Free gym
Rooms

Guests choose from superior rooms and superior rooms with ocean views. Copper-colored linens, curtains and carpets achieve a tropical feel, while standards like LCD TVs and ceiling fans lend comfort. Basic amenities cover satellite TV, central air and a mini refrigerator. Some rooms have balconies and can interconnect with other rooms.

Features

Palm-tree lined grounds and a well-rounded buffet pamper guests aiming for the resort experience. A manicured pool area -- complete with children's and adult pools -- is the place to lounge when visitors aren't using the gym or dining at Alligator, the poolside bar and grill, or Coral, another spot for alfresco dining. Coral restaurant requires men to wear long trousers at dinner.

Great Customer Service

Overall a great hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. There are only 2 elevators for the entire hotel, which means you end up waiting awhile for an elevator, or had to pass one up because it is too full. The rooms were a bit out-dated, especially the bathroom and the tv in particular. The hotel was not as close to the heart of South Beach as I thought. We ended up having to drive or take a cab to go shopping, dining, drinking, etc. On the good side, the ocean view was beautiful and the hotel a nice bar/pool area.

nice People

I liked the hotel but i noticed that it was more a family hotel and we were a group of friends. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The prices of the food and drinks at the hotel were reasonable. I wished they provided chairs and towels for the beach.

The hotel is not too far from the artdeco district. You can take a cab for 8 dollars. They have valet parking but they charge 17 dollars a night....(should be less for customers). a big problem is with the elevators in the morning. They only have two and everyone is using them. So you have to wait a long time and see if youre able to squeeze in. Rooms are clean but they are a little cheap with their toilet paper. I had to ask for more. Otherwise it serves the purpose. You can get breakfast at a local rest..one block down the road if you dont want to pay the hefty breakfast amount.

Stay at the Riu

Not many places to eat close, so tried the restaurant in the Motel, bad service, cold food, cost $21.00 for 6 ice tea's in very small glasses and no ice, then purchased water for an additional $9.00. Never do that again.

Good location, room improvement URGENT!

Good and friendship service. Pool area and lobby are OK Rooms need redecoration urgently. Housekeeping always forgot to leave towels, shampoo, etc, but if asked for them, they were delivered 5 min later In average it was a good stay, but I don't think the price is correct for the type of rooms

Beautiful hotel, good location

We visited the Hotel RIU, Florida Beach from July 8-10, 2010. Upon arrival, there were several others being helped, so we didn't receive the assistance needed with luggage, but check-in was fast and professional. The location is great for vacationers wishing to spend a relaxing time at the beach and a lot of money in the hotel's restaurants. It is not a great location if the purpose of your trip is spending a lot of time at South Beach shops and clubs. Also, there are FEW cafes within walking distance, so location is not ideal if you are planning on walking. (Rent a car, as nearby shops and restaurants are minimal.) Also, do not plan on doing a lot of business, as there is not free WiFi in the rooms. (It is available in the lobby, though.) Finally, the hotel does not offer service for airline check-in or to print airline boarding passes, so make other arrangements for that! It is a beautiful hotel with lots of opportunity for relaxation and enjoying the beach/pool. One more thing...do not plan on just "parking on the street" to avoid the $17/day valet parking. There is NOwhere nearby to park! The hotel DOES offer unlimited in/out valet, but tipping every time you leave and return gets expensive, on top of $17 a day to park...but that parking fee is everywhere, so there's really no way around that. I really enjoyed the hotel, and the price was GREAT.

Old Hotel, nice location

The hotel has seen better days, the location is great, (except for the fact that it is kind of far from the shoppping dining areas), the beach is beautiful, but the hotel itself is old. The rooms are clean, but the carpets thoroughout the building were dirty. There are only two elevators, so there are constant waits for them, for a hotel that size, they should have at least four... The restaurant is definitely not worth the $20 per person fare, the buffet was tasteless to say the least. Lots of restaurants nearby which would be well below the $20 per person amount. We ordered water to save, and stood up and started going through the buffet, when we were back, we were surprised to find $3.00 water bottles for each person, which bumped up the amount by $18.00, not to sound cheap, but if I wanted bottled water, I would have ordered some myself, we confronted the waiter and he said we should have asked for that... Overall, we should have looked around better, for the money spent, I am sure there are better deals in South Beach.

There is a cuban cafeteria two blocks up the road that has great sandwiches, coffe, and pastries, the walk can be done on the boardwalk. Great place for lunch or breakfast.

Nice experience overall

nice overall experience; no coffee pot in the room, that was a bummer; limited food service, very good breaffast buffet, no lunch except at pool bar, average buffet at night. Enjoyed the pool and the beach access. Loved the beach chair rental lady.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Morton's Steakhouse nearby, very overpriced, slow service, poor chefs preparing very average steak dinners; management tried to appease when I was asked how the meal was and I said "average, at best." I think they mean well, but for a meal that cost 2 almost $200, the experience was less than great...like I said, average at best.
