Florida -- in all its incarnations -- and free shuttles to Disney parks
The Gaylord Palms epitomizes Florida grandeur. The sprawling resort pays homage to the various regions of the state, from breezy Key West to old-world St. Augustine. Four and a half acres of themed experiences under glass walk guests through theme park-like exhibits filled with lush foliage and architecture that capture the identity of the featured area. Rooms complement the style of each wing. Amenities tend to every need, whether it is scheduled transportation to Walt Disney World or babysitting services.
Highlights
- Four and a half acres of themed experiences to showcase the regional architecture of Florida
- Six restaurants and lounges
- Clearwater Cove, which features a zero-entry pool, octopus water slide and sand play area
- Relache Spa with salon and fitness center
- Scheduled shuttle service to Disney theme parks
Rooms
Lining the perimeter of four themed atriums, the 1,406 rooms of the Gaylord Palms are designed to mimic Key West, the Everglades, St. Augustine and Emerald Bay. Spaces wow with striped cabana fabrics, Spanish and Mission-style furniture and rich woods. Amenities aim for extra pampering, from glass-enclosed, walk-in showers to lighted magnifying makeup and shaving mirrors. Balconies encourage guests to take in the circus-like views below.
Features
If the massive boat "docked" in the Key West Atrium does not grab the attention of Gaylord Palms guests, then the live alligator feedings and oversized octopus fountain in Clearwater Cove will. Relache Spa, a 20,000-square-foot oasis, pampers visitors from head to toe with an extensive menu of massages, facials, body treatments and nail and hair services. The spa is also home to a 4,000-square-foot fitness center equipped with cardiovascular machines and Smith Press System.

Gaylord palms was absolutely amazing. Almost didn't book it because of the name but was by far the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. So much stuff to do in this hotel. It's huge. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. If u are lookin for a amazing family hotel that's close Too Disney this is it. Disney entrance was literally 2 min away.

Disappointed
Great location, poor service... Pool was not working, lousy (and very expensive) valet service. Outdated rooms, that smell like an ashtray.... Every time we went to Orlando we promised, one day to stay at the Gaylord Palms. Nothing special. When you pay more, you expect more.

Well Intended, Poorly Executed
Beautiful hotel and amenities overall, but sub-par execution. Check-in took over 25 minutes because the hotel could not locate a record of having a second room with my reservation. (Glad I had my smartphone and reservation record!) Resort fee charged to us was actually a couple dollars higher than indicated, and we didn't get the two complimentary waters they indicated were included in the resort fee, even when asked for. Not a huge difference in price, but just an instance where you feel like you're getting hit for a little more than what you thought you were getting. Despite all this, the place is beautiful, beds extremely comfortable, and overall was 'okay'. They need some work on customer experience though and fulfilling on what they disclose / promote. Hopefully the addition of new amenities this year will help make prices more worthwhile.

Hopefully a temporary problem
My family had stayed at this hotel before and had only positive experiences, which is why this trip was such a shocking disappointment. Let me be clear, the hotel management did as much as they could do to compensate us for the trouble, but apparently there are a multitude and range of staffing problems. These included: parking attendants not letting us unload in front of the hotel (against their policies), broken glass on the bathroom floor, inaccurate bus schedules from Disney parks, food boxes left in hallways for an entire day, inconsistent answers and responses between managers and other staff as to policies, some downright rude people, and most of one day without water (not entirely their fault). Although each of these on their own does not add up to much, in total these were too many problems for a hotel of this caliber and reputation, especially since they're in such close proximity to stiff competition. I will think twice before going back this hotel.

Good and bad
The Good - * The resort is really big and well decorated. Our kids totally loved the environment. We went during x'mas so it was totally festive. * The rooms were clean and well-maintained. * Kids got a chance to meet the characters and that was great. We had breakfast with Shrek and the other characters - kids totally loved it. * Most of the staff were nice and helpful. The restaurant staff were nice. The bad * The shuttle service is not so great. It takes about an hour to get to some parks and the same time to get back to the hotel. We had to take a cab few times. * The panda snow show was not great. It wasn't a show at all. The snow was hard and really ice. And there wasn't much to do. * The ICE show was OK but not worth the $. * The place is overall pretty pricey - I would rather stay in a disney resort for that kind of $. * I couldn't get reservations for the restaurants in the resort. Probably because of the holidays. The ugly * They have no microwaves in the room. There is only 1 in the entire resort - in the coffee shop. * If you don't have a car, you have to depend on the restaurants in the resort and they are pricey. Pretty pricey.
