Gilbert's Resort and Marina

Stayed here last weekend, horrible idea. The staff is really rude and ignorant. The food tasted awful and wasn't cheap. The "beach" is a strip of sand and really uncomfortable. I was planning on staying the whole weekend till I found BED BUGS crawling on my bed which explained the bites I woke up with. The rooms are disgusting and unsanitary. This place should be shut down. They wouldn't refund my money so I left anyway. Waste of money and time, don't go through this pain in the neck on your vacation. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DUMP!

This was the worst hotel that we have ever walked in. We checked out within 2 hours. Booked room for 2 nights. Partial refund for second night only. No refund for first night. The adjacent bar staff was polite and understanding but had no authority to fix our problems. We had hoped to have a good time at Key Largo, however, this did not happen! When we walked into the room the smell of ammonia was so strong that it hurt our eyes and throats! The toilet was leaking and continuously refilling. The shower was very moldy! We walked out to see the back patio, in order to get some fresh air. The patio furniture was broken and very dirty! Not a place to enjoy the waterfront! We went back into the room and pulled down the bedcover and found blood on the sheets! This is when we ended out stay at Gilbert's. I hope no one has to experience what we did! Vacations are very important to us and this adventure was awful!

We booked it for 2 nights and used it as a jumping off location New Year's eve to get to Key West because all the rooms in Key West were taken. It is very hard to find, as you have to take an off ramp labeled "Business District" on a bridge and since it is the only business there it is easily missed. It is an isolated location, you cannot walk to anything. The beds were on high raised chipboard boxes and consisted of an old worn mattress on another sheet of chipboard. Very hard and very uncomfortable. The drapes did not completely cover the windows so the one night we did stay my wife slept in her clothes. There was a small fridge in the room that was so noisy you had to unplug it to try to sleep, although nearly impossible due the hard beds. There was a shower with missing tiles and the bathroom sink would not drain at all. We put up a do not disturb sign yet one of the cleaning staff opened the door anyway. In spite of my protests over the quality of the room I was charged a fee for canceling the second night and in the end paid it just to get out of there.

The hotel must be erased and build anew. The place is great and it should not be spoiled with this stinky place.
