Breakfast

The location is great...my only complaints are the construction in the lobby and that the cafe staff had not said the price of the breakfast buffet was $25 per person. I had thought that the hotel would have included breakfast considering the price of the hotel room.

Nickel and Dimed

The place is great and right on the beach but they make sure to gouge you for every penny they can. A couple of examples: We had to walk through the pool area to get down to the beach. Every, literally every, employee we would pass on the walk down would ask to make sure we weren't planning on taking our cooler to the pool. That's against the rules because it would eat into the margins they get on their $12 cocktails. They do have 6 restaurants, which is convenient. The only problem: a burger was $15! Ice cream? $9! The place is pretty, the view was awesome, the service was fine but they're going to milk you for as much as they can.

Classy joint

We had a wonderful stay. The bed was super comfortable. The balcony and view of the ocean was breathtaking. We loved the infinity pool. It is a resort, so come prepared to pay resort prices for all your food and drinks. The location is good for them because there is seriously no close alternatives and taxicabs are pricey. The closest restaurants, etc, are about 1.5-2 miles away, which doesn't sound like a bad walk...until you factor in the Florida sun. Yuck. After being told several times the only way to get to the boardwalk was a taxicab, we did learn that there is a $1 trolley that stops at the hotel about 10 and 40 minutes past the hour. It also goes downtown, etc, so a decent alternative. Overall, great experience. Wonderful stay. Beautiful resort.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Use the Hollywood Trolley! It passes through the hotel at 10 and 40 minutes past the hour and goes to the boardwalk and downtown. At $1/person, it'll save you lots in taxicab fares.

Conference hotel feels overbooked

This stay was a girlfriends' weekend getaway for pampering and relaxation. The Westin Diplomat is a beautiful hotel with excellent rooms however the staff quality is inconsistent. The cafe baristas were rude and I had to beg for two towels for the beach. I was told there was not enough laundry to provide me with two towels. I don't appreciate having to argue and beg so I can put my head on a towel at the beach. They charged $15 for a beach chair and another $15 for umbrellas. I found this nickel/diming to be in poor taste. There were extremely long waits for the valet service to bring the cars - once it took nearly an hour! It seems they cannot handle the overwhelming number of guests or to make sure their staff are consistently polite and helpful.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

It's a short drive (35-40 min) to South Beach Miami but careful parking on the street. I got a ticket when there were no signs suggesting that it was restricted parking. I had paid the meter and was back in plenty of time.

not bad

The hotel lobby is great. The food outlets are also great. The pool area trails behind the overall quality of the hotel. The rooms are not cleaned or dusted well.

Nice amenities but far from town

The room was very nice (Delux king bed room with balcony) We had a partial oven view which was still a nice view even though it was ocean to our side and a building head on. Dinner and drinks were pricey at the hotel restaurants but rivals seemed to be reasonably priced. There is a 7 11 down the street (Aka where to get snacks or wine/beer for your room cheaper. Our advice is rent a car. Taxi is pricey and w regretted not having a car to drive ourselves The trOlley was good though for a dollar ride to town and the boardwalk which is a good time.
