Mega resort offers a golf course, infinity pool and full-service spa

The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood Florida calls the pristine shores of Hollywood home, a magnet for families, golfers and spa lovers. The high-rise property earns style points for sweeping views of the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic from room balconies, an infinity edge pool with enclosed see-through lagoon, access to a 7,000-yard golf course and 22-treatment room spa. Guests do not have to leave the hotel for food and drinks thanks to poolside dining, a waterfront sports grill, plus sushi and steak restaurants.

Highlights
  • Sustainable beachfront hotel near two ports of call and airports
  • 18-hole golf course and infinity pool with see-through bottom and waterfalls
  • Kids club for children ages 4 to 12
  • 30,000-square-foot spa offering facials, massages and body treatments
  • Multiple restaurants and bars, including a waterfront sports bar and seafood and steakhouse
Rooms

The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood Florida maintains green initiatives in its 898 rooms and 100 suites, where all carpeting and full-length glass enclosures for the showers and commodes have been recycled. A wholesaler refurbished all the furnishings and the balconies feature recycled patio furniture. Elegant rooms display modern and traditional touches like microfiber sofas and dramatic layered drapes that open to city, Intracoastal Waterway or ocean views. Standards include a mini bar, refrigerator, in-room video games, in-room dining and video checkout.

Dining

The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa indulges vacationers at a host of restaurants from the upscale Hollywood Prime seafood and steakhouse to sushi lounge BarSu. Diners also cannot resist dining by the pool at Splash Poolside Grille and Bar or bellying up to the bar at Rivals Waterfront Sports Grille.

Recreation

Active travelers feel right at home at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood Florida, where the golfer, spa lover, child and everyone in between can find a distraction. The hotel operates a complimentary shuttle every 30 minutes to its golf course, a destination for seasoned players and novices alike. On site, guests enjoy an infinity pool whose circular see-through lagoon bottom seems to swallow two waterfalls. Parents also love the many planned activities at the kids club, which hosts tykes ages 4 to 12 for supervised craft sessions, karaoke, beach sports and more.

Need a beauty tune-up? The Spa at the Diplomat pampers in 22 treatment rooms with a menu of traditional and exotic treatments like the signature caviar facial and the European hydrotherapy tub infused with sweet-smelling botanical solutions.

Amazing poolside getaway

My friends and I stayed here for a week over spring break. The hotel was gorgeous, staff were very helpful, and the pool was a great escape for a week of relaxation. The only negative about the trip was that Hollywood isn't the most exciting of places for night life. We had a hard time finding fun restaurants and bars for people in their 20s. Downtown Hollywood seemed a little run down and the broadwalk got pretty quiet after the sun went down. Ft. Lauderdale was only a $40 cab ride away so we ended up going there for night which had much more to offer. If quiet relaxation is what you seek, this is the place for you!

Treated very rudely by check in staff and then put in a lesser room!!!

We checked in late to the hotel and were told that the room we had reserved and paid for was unavailable and that the next morning they would move us that room. The next day came and after a couple of calls we were finally told that they were sold out and couldn't help us. This was our anniversary trip and certainly could have done a lot better than that!!!!

Big and Busy

Stayed at Westin Diplomat for New Year's with the wife. You can always count on Westin for room quality (bedding, finishes etc) and this one is no exception. Walls were a little thin though - heard screaming kids and loud parents regularly. The resort is great if you plan to stay on the compound and use the cafe/restaurant/pool/beach. Just be ready to pay for it. WIRELESS INTERNET - costs $13/day (free in lobby). That's a little ghetto. Even two-star places regularly offer that free. VALET PARKING - Plan to wait for your car. The valet area is a madhouse. $25/day. We visited when a large Orange Bowl crowd was staying there. You can self park across the street for $20/day. FITNESS CENTER is very good, but poorly located (it's a temp facility across A1A near the parking garage). Signage in the hotel still points to the former location. BREAKFAST BUFFET in the cafe- although good, was expensive. Over $60 for a couple for buffet breakfast? Really? I spent less on dinner at Chuck's steakhouse. Would I return? Don't think so, but would if there was a good vacation deal available. Overall felt nickel-and -dimed too much and overwhelmed by the size/crowds. Perhaps it's more suited for families than couples.

Crowne-Plaza down the street has a pretty good breakfast buffet for $17 (no omelets). or $15 continental. They don't add 15% tip automatically like the Diplomat. If the service is good, tip well. Isn't that the way it works?

Lovely Hotel

Our stay was part of a getaway package, and we paid less than the regular room rate. This hotel is first rate, and it's in a great location. We had an ocean view that was lovely. Staff was courteous. Overall, a great stay. My only complaint deals with the ergonomics of the bathroom. The shower stall has a marble base that sticks out about an inch further than the walls of the stall, and both of us stubbed our toes badly on this "unexpected" base. Poor design.

Hollywood Prime, the steakhouse in the hotel, is absolutely wonderful. I wouldn't bother going anywhere else if you like steak. Also very elegant/romantic atmosphere.

Westin is the BEST

Check in was a breeze. Rec'd dinner reservations for same evening with no problem. This is the best hotel ever -- always stay here when I can. Spa was amazing. Sent my adult children here for a birthday surprise and they also loved it. Highly recommend isn't enough. Only down side is it pricey for valet, beach chairs, etc. but it is worth it!!
