If it sounds too good to be true - it generally is.

We went to this hotel this weekend based off of a Groupon deal. I would've have been furious if I would've paid full price for this hotel. For starters - the location is HORRIBLE. It is located on a busy, noisy run down intersection. All the pics on the Groupon showed balcony rooms - however it turns out that is their "apartments" and not the actual hotel that is old, smelly and has no balconies. The room was horrific smelling - when asked to switch to a new one I was informed they were booked solid - which I find that VERY far to believe. We opened the windows in the room and stayed gone for about 5 hours. When we came back - the smell was still there. The inside was decent - old and musky, but overall decent and clean. The water in the shower both days was cold and there is nothing worse than cold water. Breakfast first day was decent. They had eggs, bacon, sausage (it was the most disgusting looking thing I've ever seen so we didn't even try it), cereals, pastries, bagels, etc. The day of check out I was horrified at breakfast when I was cutting up the scrambled eggs for my 2 year old to find the bottom of all of them were green. Sorry but I'm not into Green eggs and ham. So overall I would've NOT used the Groupon and paid full price somewhere else.

Great time!

We had a really great time in Fort Walton. We were staying at a disappointing hotel on the beach and got horrible sunburns. Last minute we changed hotels, and I didn't really mind not staying directly on the beach. The suite was clean and very lovely. The bed was super comfortable. I miss we could have experience the two pools. We will be staying here again, I really don't mind the ten minute drive to the beach.

We enjoy McGuires restaurant in Destin. Very good food and a nice atmosphere. The shopping is also great. Many stores that we do not have near our home.

OK this time

I've stayed at Cayo Grande before and was very happy to return. this time however, I was placed across the street in the older building. Not so nice. Smaller rooms, smaller televisions, the water tasted like metal and in fact, my son threw up after drinking it. I reverted to bottled water and all was well. They need to get rid of that building or rebuild, I know, easier said than done.

I've had better

I have stayed at this hotel before and had no problems. However, we had several issues this weekend. 1. We had absolutely no turn down service or towels replenished in 3 days. 2. Dead bugs in the milk at the "cooked to order" ha ha breakfast. Also, stale bagels. 3. Our cards to get in our room stopped working, and after calling the front desk 6 times from my cell phone (the hotel welcome center is across the street) we had to walk to the welcome center for them to get us new cards. They never answered the phone and once we got there, the reply was "Were you guys the ones trying to call?"

Awsome Place To Stay

When I was given my room, my girlfriend and I got locked in. Something was wrong with the door. I called the front desk and someone came to or room immediately. Checked the door and asked the front desk if there was another room available because of our safety at night (you never know). She put us in another room with no problem. I call that excellent service. I hightly recommend this hotel. This is my 2nd time staying here and look forward in coming back again.

Family wedding week

Out of state family group in town for a wedding, we all stayed @ this hotel. Rates were reasonable and included a full breakfast cooked on site. The staff was friendly & helpful. The unit furnishings & decor are on the old side, except for the beds which were excellent. The rooms were clean for the most part, except for around the edges of the carpeting, baseboards, etc. The bathroom had some damage to the flooring tile & chips in tub & surround. All the unit windows face an outside walkway so it is impossible to have privacy if you want to keep the drapes open for daylight. Another issue we had was the health club/gym as it was located across the street. If you need a convenient location in town this is OK, but there are much better choices on the Gulf a few miles away.

The Crab Trap is just across the bridge to Destin and is an excellent place to eat. Huge gulf prawns for a reasonable price.

Okay for a qick visit

The staff was super nice in letting us check in four hours early. Didn't even bat an eye at the inconvenience to them! Front desk customer service would not accept our tip to thank her. We were there to spend the weekend for my sons birthday so not disappointed that this hotel/apartment dwelling was not the 'waters view' resort it was advertised to be. The grounds are aged and in an older section of town. If you aren't familiar with FWB and surroundings you may be disappointed, you won't be near the beach at all. For our purpose we were extremely satisfied and pleased! Very clean and Hilton style comfortable beds! Laundry in each suite, take your own soap, though!

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

You will have to drive to any beach and pack up for the day. Fort Walton does not have public beaches so you will have to leave the hotel and plan to spend the day away at the beaches on Okaloosa Island or in Destin.
