Loud Trains

Loud trains kept us awake at night and made noise all through the day. We had a room on the pool side which was a nightmare. Lobby looks great but rooms still need an upgrade. The bare minimum. Great drive-in theatre in plantation area. Not very child friendly.

Great location, great stay

I stayed at the Universal Palm for 4 nights, we were down from NJ for a quick couple days in the sun. We rented a hotel and the beach is about 10 blocks up the road. Great access to I95, close to the casino and a 40 minute drive to miami. The hotel it self has a cute pool and resturant. Only complaint was the noise, the walls must be so thin and the hotel is close to the train track which woke me up at least one time a night. Otherwise, great stay, clean place, great staff.

Amazing

The hotel is brand new and thus in perfect condition. We received a free room upgrade and also free drinks at the hotel“s bar. The rooms are very big and clean. The attention was perfect. My girlfriend only speaks Spanish and there were lots of people who speak the language. The swimming pool is great.

Aesthetically interesting place you have here!

You want the good, the bad, and the ugly? Here we go. The hotel was comfortable, and had a nice pool. It's in a weird location - the point of which I still don't really understand, as it seems to not be near anything of interest. Oh, but what IS interesting is the clash of different design themes in this place! For those who enjoy things that are slightly out of whack, check this out: Dozens of Greco-Roman statues all over the place AND tiki-hut thatched roofs (in the parking lot and at the pool). Mash that up with rooms that are decorated in a sort of modern Euro style. But the crowning glory is the neon lighting at the roofline - the kind you usually see on nightclubs of a certain type that cater to "gentlemen". Can you say cheesy? Despite the thematic conflict, the place was comfortable. I can't really rave about the staff. I had a two-night stay, and the morning of my second day there, a manager knocked on my door asking me when I planned on checking out. "Tomorrow", I replied. He told me that I only had the room for one night and that I needed to either contact my agency to straighten things out, pay the hotel for an "additional" night, or get the heck out of there! (Never mind the fact that the clerk who had checked my party in stated that he saw we were confirmed for two nights.) Well, I tried to figure out what went wrong, and a few minutes later went to the desk to try to reason with this manager. By the time I got there, he cheerfully announced that he had sorted everything out and all was fine. The point of all this, is that the hotel staff seems to not recognize ordinary agency/hotel booking practices, and assumes that problems are the responsibility of the guest to research and resolve. This was something that NEVER should have even been brought up with me. A good hotel would have contacted the agency and figured things out without disturbing the guest. I've had worse experiences, but nothing about this one made me want to return. Not even for all the neon in Florida.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Miami Subs, right across Commercial Blvd. Fast food, but not your typical burgers, etc. They had a wide variety of stuff.
