Girl's Getaway

Everything was easy!! Late check-in was no problem, room key was in mailbox for us. Location was perfect!! Easy walk to beach, restaurants, shopping & night life. We felt safe walking at night in the area. This hotel is not fancy, but our room was CLEAN and just what we were looking for on a budget. We were looking to spend most of our time at the beach, not in the room. We will definitely stay here again! Thank you for a nice little motel close to the beach with a great price!

Lulu's, above CVS, was a great place for drinks, food and a wonderful ocean view at a reasonable price.

You get what you pay for.

Place is great location. They need to hire more people to work here though. Staff was ok.

Great Location!

Beach is short walk from hotel. Make sure to call ahead before you a arrive at hotel because they don't always have front desk staffed. They have sister hotel (The Shell) that is always staff and somebody will come over from there to check you in. It was safe and clean but was a little mad there was no ice machine!? In need of remodel and heard that is going to happen this spring.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Two blocks south there is a outdoor mall area that has many bars and eatery's. Some cheap entertainment is a Dueling Piano Bar on 3rd floor of mall.

Terrible

If I could give zero stars, I probably would. The location is okay it's close to the beach. The room smelled like bleach. The blinds were broken. Cleaning staff could literally see us in bed. Sheets were dirty. The toilet kept flushing itself at night. In general plumbing seemed very old. There wasn't even anyone to complain to as the office was closed. Stay away from this place.

Quirky, budget-conscious, dorm-room bargain!

Unfortunately there have been 'staffing' issues at this hotel, and though we did call ahead to confirm that we were arriving, there was no one at the hotel office when we arrived. A note on the door advised that we call their partner hotel, and the desk clerk there said he'd be over with a room key for us in five minutes. We were tired from driving, and a little queasy from a glass-bottom boat ride, so we were eager to get settled in. After 20 minutes we called again and got no answer. We looked up the other motel address and drove over. The manager was most apologetic, and explained she was training new staff. Meanwhile, a bride-to-be was there to request a blow dryer as she was running late for her rehearsal dinner. The new trainee seemed to have as little concern for her schedule as he did for ours -- he made small talk and jokes while the wet-haired bride kept trying to explain that she was in a hurry. When we finally got our turn, the manager offered us some 'extra mint candies' for our trouble. Meanwhile, it was an hour of our precious vacation that we were spending waiting for our key. We were promised that the manager would bring us the key and show us to our room in five minutes... and finally in about another 20 minutes she showed up to let us in. There was not any elevator, and the stairs were somewhat steep and irregular, but we managed to get everything unpacked. The room itself was spacious enough, though apparently was furnished with old dorm-room furnishings. Windows opened to the outside walkway, and we just hoped there were no psycho-killers looking for easy prey. The bathroom was kitschy, with a ceiling fan but no vent. There was a nice tub, though we had to bend over to wash our hair and then had to ask the housekeeper for 'drain cleaner.' She returned with a toilet plunger, which she used to clear the shower drain, probably from sand and beach debris. We were glad to have the drain work again, but a little creeped out that a toilet plunger was used in the shower. The air conditioner worked fine, there was a microwave and refrigerator, and plenty of storage. The bed was comfortable as well. Don't get me wrong -- we love kitsch and quirk, and the location a block from the ocean was wonderfully convenient. What really irked us was the office staff who didn't seem to care that their clients were all there for just limited amounts of time and didn't want to spend vacation or wedding rehearsal time standing around waiting for answers. The housekeeper was very kind, and it probably never occurred to her that it was unseemly to use a toiler plunger in a shower. Checkout was also an annoyance -- after we'd locked the room and went downstairs to return the keys to the office, we found a sign on the door say to leave keys in the room -- so yet another flight of stairs using my bad knees, a painful moment that I could easily have been spared if there had been those kinds of instructions on the back of the room door. I'd recommend this place to friends so long as they weren't too fussy -- I have many friends that would have thought this was simply a nightmare, and I have other friends who would rather save the money and suffer the 'inelegance' of this vintage motel.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

Call ahead, check to see if office staff will be there to check you in. Also, mobility is an issue, see if a first-floor room is available. There were several elderly people there who were surprised that there was no elevator, and they were struggling to maneuver their luggage up and down the stairs.

Good value for the location

The room was very clean and cozy. The mini kitchen was perfect for late night snacking. The appliances were a little dated and there was a problem with the phone line. Dave was very friendly and accommodating.

quaint hotel

Our first room was a little small for two people but we extended our stay and moved to a king bed room which was much more comfortable. It's a very quiet hotel with the beach a half a block away and nightlife and restaurants all within walking distance. You can use the pools at their sister hotels around the block. The staff was sooo nice and accomodating. I would go back to this hotel.

Good location, clean, ok but an old bldg w/ old bath style and very tiny shower.

Served it purpose, would prefer to upgrade. Doesn't deserve a bad rap it's just you get what you pay for and don't expect any more
