A return to tradition at a casual Fort Lauderdale beach resort
A roomy veranda with rocking chairs signifies the casual appeal of Pelican Grand Beach Resort, a family-friendly hotel right on the oceanfront. Visitors enjoy watching time go by in the zero entry pool, lazy river and choosing their favorite ice cream flavors at the parlor. For fine dining with water views, the standard is North Ocean Grille. Rooms lean toward the traditional, with iron bed posts, crown molding and bright pastels.
Highlights
- Spacious rooms, some with ocean or Intracoastal Waterway views
- Zero entry pool and lazy river
- Old-fashioned ice cream parlor
- Veranda with rocking chairs
- North Ocean Grille for all-day waterfront dining
Rooms
Pastels (canary yellow, lilac and various shades of blue) spread cheer in traditional rooms, suites and penthouses at Pelican Grand Beach Resort. Depending on the layout, the room might have a balcony with a view of the Intracoastal Waterway or Atlantic Ocean. Look for traditional touches like crown molding, heavy armoires doubling as TV cabinets and iron bed frames. Every room has a mini refrigerator, microwave, high-speed Internet access, movies, games and music.
Dining
Pelican Grand Beach Resort whips up a meal for every occasion. Grab breakfast, lunch or dinner by the water at North Ocean Grille and finish with a sweet treat at The Emporium, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor.
Recreation
A zero entry pool overlooks a horizon graced by palm trees and those signature South Florida sunsets at Pelican Grand Beach Resort. There, guests can either take a leisurely cruise aboard an inner tube on the lazy river or rest on poolside cabanas with their favorite tropical drink from Poolside, an alfresco lounge. Beach attendants and servers tend to sunbathers' every need.

What a great place
This Hotel is great for family with kids, I have never seen a place that would be so welcoming to kids, we stayed without kids but I couldn't help to notice it, their lazy river is a great relaxing activity which is also very unique, the food in the restaurant was great, all in all I couldn't ask for a better place/price in Ft Lauderdale.

Wonderful hotel and staff!
My best friend and I met here for our 40th birthdays. The hotel is adorable and eclectic, with a cute ice cream parlor, veranda rockers and a lazy river that is sooo relaxing. The beach attendants suprised the guests with grapes and ice cream, and the bar and restaurant staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy, even bringing our beers to us in the lazy river! The coconut races were so fun and my friend won a free t-shirt. The room was lovely and charming. There are games and books in the comfy lobby and we would have loved to stay forever.

Disappointed Pelican
Not As Expected
The Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida was listed as a four-star hotel. However, we were very disappointed in our accomodations. We reserved an ocean-view room, which we did not get. Our view was of the street. We saw roaches in the bathroom immediately upon arrival. We opened the entertainment center to find no TV. One was finally brought to the room several hours later instead of being brought immediately. The ceiling fan had dust that hung off the blades. The dust bunnies landed on the bed when the fan was turned on. The lighting in the bathroom was extremely poor. My husband had a very hard time seeing to shave and I had a very hard time seeing to apply my makeup. We were not aware the hotel offered valet parking only and we were charged $28 for parking, in addition to parking attendant tips. We had to wait for our car to be brought to the front door every time we went out, even though we called ahead to request the car be waiting. This hotel was sadly missing four-star accommodations and did not even come close to comparing with other four-star hotels we have stayed at in the past. We would not recommend this hotel.

Needs a few improvements!!!
I am writing this negative review because it was not a very pleasant experience for a 4-star hotel (see details below). Pros: - nice location Cons: - cold pool (we asked the management to turn on the heater, they ignored our requests coming up with various excuses) - the slowest wired Internet connection I have experienced in the past 10 years (my dialup was faster) - They still have CRT television sets in rooms (cheap motel I stayed a day earlier had LCDs) - One of the front desk staff members basically told us that if we don't like it there, we can check out any time (what a great customer service...) - One of the rooms had stale odor, probably from carpets

Perfect Beach Location
Best on beach location in Fort Lauderdale. Everything at Hotel was first class except suite had 2 older CRT model TV's. New flat screen TV's would be a great upgrade.

We could not have been happier.
We had a great experience at the Pelican Grand. Totally relaxing. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we had a wonderful time. They exceeded our expectations, which doesn't seem to happen very often in this day and age. We have already decided we can't wait a year to go back so we'll head back sometime this winter.

This was an amazing hotel right on the beach perfect for a romantic get away. the staff were very accommodating to our requests and very friendly. All the rooms over look the ocean and every morning we got to see a magnificent sunrise. We couldn't have asked for more from our hotel. the rooms were very clean, spacious and comfy. the hotel also has an amazing brunch in their restuarant which produced an amazing spread with ample choices. Would definately stay here again.

A Great Get Away
Staff and hotel accommodations were wonderful! Clean, bright and friendly. The convenience of pool and beach at your fingertips was the best part. *Definitely a 4 star hotel. The only lacking area was it's surroundings as the nearest shops and markets were not a quick walk away.

Beautiful Property
This hotel is a beautiful property on a lovely stretch of beach. I loved that unlike most Fort Lauderdale hotels, it wasn't necessary to cross the highway to get to the beach. The room decor was comfy and lovely. The personnel at the pool was prompt, friendly and attentive. I was disappointed with the following: The night prior to departure I was regretting not booking an oceanfront room. I saw online that the upgrade was about $12.00 per day. When I checked in I asked for an upgrade and was told there was a room available, but it would be $50.00/day. When I explained that it was only $12 online I was told rather snippily "then you should have booked it online ". (I did not take the upgrade). I can understand the policy, but not the "attitude". Although the rooms were lovely, the TVs were outdated and in disrepair. I had to call for a repair three times. The first time I waited nearly 2 hours before calling the desk again. Then the next day it was broke again (picture was frozen). Finally, the hotel is in a rather remote location (which of course was breathtaking). However, as a woman traveling for business alone, I was rather captive on the property and the prices of meals in the Hotel restaurant were outlandish. Entrees starting in the $30.00 range with nothing included (i.e. salads sides). I must say the meal was delicious and the view from the terrace amazing!!
