Awful Experience
My family and I chose to stay here because of the entire ad's claim "The condo is just right for couples seeking a private and quiet retreat. It is ideal for small families too" and "This west end corner condo is directly on 300 ft. of private beach." (to find these exact phrases in their ad, visit, http://www.top-destin-rentals.com/capri-beach-homes-116-on-the-beach-condo.php. ) We also read the reviews and were excited to rent the unit because of the claims to its privacy and quietness. There is nothing private and quiet about this property. Every night we have stayed here, my children and I have been woke up by all the loud partying going on in the room next door to us. We have asked the partiers to keep the volume down, however they show no respect or courtesy to their neighbor even when children are involved. We called the sheriffs dept. twice so far since we have been here trying to keep the noise contained, but again another disappointment as the sheriff's dept. claims there is nothing they can do about the noise even though there is supposed to be noise ordinances enforced, particularly on PRIVATE property. Property management won't do anything because all they care about is the dollars they make on renting out the units, other than that, they could care less if you are having a less than pleasant stay and also do not enforce the noise complaints even though they advertise "great for families," "private and quiet retreat." The beach is supposed to be a private beach, however that also is not enforced and I have taken photos of the so-called "private beach." We haven't been able to enjoy the beach because there is no where to set up an umbrella for my family due to the over-crowded "private beach." There are a number of issues with unit #116 as well, the fan in the bathroom makes awful loud groaning sounds and doesn't work, the tv in the bedroom has to "warm up" before it will work properly and until then it displays a white horizontal line on the screen for about 5-10 minutes. I have had to clean everything before it could be used, the place was filthy and since they charge $300 just for a cleaning fee, I expected the place to be spotless. The deck has numerous trip hazards and is unlevel with several screws sticking out of the planks about 1/2 to 1 inch. I figured this out when I accidently stepped on one and it sunk into my foot requiring a tetanus shot. If you are considering staying here, please use caution and plan your stay carefully.

The Capri is great
The Capri was great, it's a single story that looks old school but my place was super clean and modern. The place is gated and the beach is steps away. The private beach was not crowded and chairs and an umbrella are set up for you each day. Friendly staff and super quite. A++

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
The Crazy Lobster located at the Harborwalk is a great place to eat it is pricey but the seafood and staff are great. I highly recommend the steamed seafood bucket it's well worth the price. STAY AWAY!!!! from The Back Porch Resturant it's pricey and all my food tasted like it was heated up in the microwave, the beer was hot and service was poor.

WTH?
The pictures on the internet are nothing like the room we were given. The place reminded me of a 2 hour stay motel off of an interstate somewhere. I wouldn't walk on the carpet barefooted and I hated the idea of laying down on that bed. Even my daughter was sickened by the appearance. The guy at the desk even said the web photos were doctored! This place was a dump. We left after the first night and moved up the street. Don't waste your money.

Excellent location
The location is perfect, almost on the dunes only some 50 - 100 yards from the water. Low style old hotel in an area with niece houses and mostly rather low buildnings. Very friendly and helpful staff. The condos are probably quite old but in good condition and with tasteful colors and interior. If you enjoy long walks on the beach and a quiet place this is the right place for you. The first morning we saw dolphins in the emerald crystal clear water

Great time, will stay again!!
I had a great time, the location is just right, the beach is beautiful and clean. The room was alot nicer than I expected, the kitchen was loaded with utinsils to use, I cooked up a great meal in my room, did not have to buy ANY kitchen equipment. The staff was friendly. The lot is secure with gate with entrance code. Many great places to eat nearby. I had a wonderful new years here. Would like to come back when its a little warmer. THIS PLACE IS TOP NOTCH, I THINK EVERYBODY WOULD ENJOY STAYING HERE!!!

A definite JEWEL of a place to stay!
Our cozy, spotless condo/suite had a fully (and I mean fully) stocked kitchen, and nice leather lazy boys, along with two other comfortable chairs, and a 52" plasma TV. The bed was moderately comfortable. There was even a desk setup with a leather executive chair and complementary high speed Internet service for your laptop. The bathroom was spotless and we always had plenty of hot water. The beach was only steps away, and what a beach it is!! Absolutely beautiful white sands, and the property furnishes (most of the year) free umbrellas and chairs for each unit. I can't think of one reasonable bad thing to say about the place. It was great. Also: there are two parking places reserved for each unit, which I thought was nice. It's centrally located too, convenient to Destin's many fine entertainment/shopping/dining opportunities.

Shopping tip:
Short drive from hotel
Check out the Silver Sands Outlet Mall while you're there if you have time. Most outlet malls promise big savings but don't really deliver. Not only does this one deliver on the savings, but it's a designer name only mall -- and has the distinction of being the largest of its kind in the country.

Great Beach Access!
My wife and I were travelling cross country and made this our last and longest stop before heading home to Southwest Florida. Capri by the Gulf appears to be a motel but is actually individually owned Condo's. Each is different from the other but are equipped with amenities you would expect in a home. Parking is directly in front of each unit and the beach is adjacent to the property. Daily room cleaning service is not provided and a very small cleaning charge is added to your bill. We found this property to be a welcome change from the hotels and motels we had been staying at for the previous three weeks and would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful couples retreat
A bit expensive but worth it. Beautifully decorated condo with ALL amenities provided (linens, dishes, silverware,etc.). Condo units are mere steps from private beach. So much nicer than a high rise hotel where you have to walk to the beach from across the street. Umbrella and beach chairs provided for free. Very quiet, peaceful, and romantic location for couples retreat. Very friendly staff. Will be going back soon. Only one bad thing: central air conditioning did not work well at all and there was no ceiling fan in the bedroom. Ceiling fan in the living room did provide some comfort.

A must stay...
If you enjoy the beautiful gulf beach, this is the place to be. Easy to get to and located nest to all you can possible need. Shopping and food. The place has been in the area for 30 years and the owners have done a wonderful job of updating the place. It is the best kept secret in the area. Do not look for 5 star service but the location is great and the staff is there for you. I will be back at least 1 weekend every 1-2 months and it will be at the Capri on the Gulf... John and Tammy

Avoid the large crowds
We really enjoyed our stay at Capri by the Gulf. The rooms were clean and updated. I liked the fact that you could walk out of your room directly out on to the beach and that there were no big crowds because of the size of the condo itself. I would, and have highly recommended this place to my friends. It was a wonderful get away for both of us.
