Outstanding Service, great place to stay!

Tucked away in a quiet, picturesque, campus neighborhood, about 2 blocks from Foggy Bottom Metro Station, very safe. Room was spacious, w/ kitchen, large table, dressing room seperate from bath, safe in room, was very clean. Staff was outstanding, very helplul and accomodating. Small but nice restaurant. Exceptional Value. Place is a Gem, will stay here again.

Big Rooms and Great Location

We were not expecting the room to be as big as it was. There was a full kitchen and a sleeper sofa couch. The rooms look like they were recently updated (besides the kitchen) and they did a great job. There was a dish and cup left in the sink by the cleaning crew but other than that it was very nice. Location cannot get much better among the row houses of Foggy Bottom and a 5 minute walk to the Metro Station.

Location makes it worth it

We stayed for a weekend and had a great time overall. The hotel was conveniently located - just a short walk to the Metro and a few minutes away from the main attractions. Accommodations were good, but nothing special. WiFi was spotty at best.

Homeboy get-together

Three of us old buddies from different parts of the country came to DC for a weekend, all of us at the River Inn. My room was a nice size, clean, well-appointed, nothing I would've added. Staff (front desk) were very helpful and knowledgeable, esp. about transpo to Dulles Airport, which is way, way out of the city. Restaurant was open for B, L & D and had good food. Location is ideal for going downtown or to Georgetown. I'd unhesitatingly recommend this hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

The DC Metro stop is 2 blocks from this hotel. It can take you to pretty much any of the areas you'd want to visit for business or touring, other than Georgetown, which is walking distance. Parking is tough in DC anywhere downtown or on the Mall. So use the Metro.

First visit to DC

It is a nice hotel with all you need. Short walk from the Kennedy Center. Foggy Bottom Metro station is only 2 blocks away and walking to the Lincoln Memorial takes 12 minutes at a relaxed pace. Did not try the restaurant as there are many options nearby. Housekeeping ladies stay until 4.30 pm and are very helpful. The room is spacious, we did not get a nice view but no big deal, for that you have to go out! The carpet, TV and furniture could be updated, it is not a deal breaker since we used the room just to sleep. We would stay here again.

The Kennedy Center offers a free show everyday at 6 pm, short walk on New Hampshire street or take the free shuttle from the Foggy Bottom Metro station 2 blocks from the hotel.

Great deal with easy access to the city.

I stayed two nights at the River Inn while in Washington for a conference. The hotel is located in Foggy Bottom, which isn't very near the Convention Center, but I was easily able to get there by Metro in about 20 minutes from the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro stop nearby. The neighborhood doesn't have much going on at night, and food options seemed pretty limited, but there's a Trader Joe's up the street and a 7-11 on your way from the Metro stop, so there's ample opportunity to stock up on food for the room's full kitchen. The room itself was awesome. Very comfortable bed and couch, spacious desk and even a table to eat your meals at. There was a good iron and ironing board in the closet that I made use of, and the closets have safes that are big enough to hold a regular laptop computer. The bathroom was spotless and the shower was fantastic -- biggest shower head I have ever seen, no doubt about it. I had no problems with noise of any sort despite being on a low floor and facing the back of the property where the dumpsters are. I guess trash collection didn't occur during my two-night stay. Of course, I didn't have any sort of view, but that's not really important in DC since all the buildings are fairly small. Didn't have a chance to try the restaurant (I did try to order room service, but could never get through. Ditto trying to call the front desk.) The menu looked good and not outrageously pricey for room service in a major metropolitan area hotel. All things considered, the River Inn is an excellent deal for budget-minded travelers who do not want to skimp on amenities. I felt like I was staying at a much more expensive hotel, and despite the neighborhood being a bit quiet and residential, I still was close enough to public transit to get where I needed to go. Excellent stay, and I would return.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

Foggy Bottom is a little slow and the nightlife that is there caters more toward the fratty crowd that composes the enrollment of GWU. It takes a little effort, but check out the Red Room bar at Black Cat near the Cardozo stop on the Green/Yellow lines of the Metro if you are looking for a cool bar that doesn't feel very DC-ish. It's also near Ben's Chili Bowl, which has awesome late-night (and really any time for me) food like their famous Half-Smoke sausage covered in chili and chese.

family vacation to DC

Got a great deal on hotel. Upgraded to 2 queen beds /suite since all rooms were full. The beds were comfortable and clean. Kitchette was great for simple brkfast and dinners occasionally. The coffee bean/grinder for morning coffee was excellent!! However, the microwave was weak, one stove range did not work and the garbage disposal leaked. Minor inconvenience. More major thing for me is the sofa which is fairly worn down-- got bitten everytime I sat on it.! The other thing is the kitchen floor was kinda dirty and sticky. Maid never mopped it during my 8 day stay. Despite of the above, had a great time in D.C. with hotel in a very safe area near University having Metro 2 blks away and grocery store 1+ blk away. Would stay there again if I get the same deal as this time.
