Great Location

We very much enjoyed our stay at the River Inn. The staff was very friendly, and the location was excellent. The street was quiet and very attractive, yet we were two blocks from the Metro. Also, we enjoyed the kitchen facilities, and there is a Trader Joe's two blocks away.

A "Hidden Gem"

This older hotel was a real surprise. I called ahead to make sure our reservation was secure and when the agent couldn't find our name, he called [...]to see what should have been there. He called me back in a timely manner. When we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a suite at no additional charge. The rate was already very reasonable. This suite included a complete kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, dishes and COFFEE BEANS and a grinder. This was nice for those chilly winter days in DC. Although small, the bathroom was very clean and nicely appointed. There was a separate vanity area. A nice restaurant was attached to the lobby. My son and husband found it good and fairly priced. The reasonable rate was even more surprising when one considered the location. It was within easy walking distance of the Capitol Mall and just over a block from the Metro station yet was on a quiet street. If I return to the DC area, I would make every effort to get reservations there again. The only thing lacking was a free breakfast, but it had the big chains all beat.

The River Inn was in great location

The River Inn was in great location 2 blocks from metro and a short walk from Georgetown close to shops, restaurants etc. On arrival the hotel had not received details of our reservation from hotelclub booked 10 days previously. This was handled very efficiently by reception staff who also offered good local recommendations. The room suited our needs perfectly and the $10 continental breakfast kept us going well into the day!

Great location and amenities in DC

Our family of 4 visited DC in April 2011 and found the River Inn a perfect fit for our week long stay. Since it had a kitchenette, we were able to buy and make several meals, saving money for other activities. Just East of the Inn on I street was the Foggy Bottom Metro stop which let us travel quickly and conveniently to the Zoo, Smithsonian museums, the Mall and more. We also enjoyed two Thai restaurants on Pennsylvania Avenue just north of the Inn. GWU has a handy food court on campus, there is the Cone E Istalnd ice cream shop near GWU on I and a farmer's market on I near GWU on Wednesdays too. Several Starbucks are also in the neighborhood. The hop on / hop off tour busses which travel to the Mall stop right at the One Washington Circle Hotel just Northeast of the Inn as well. However, most everything is easily accessible via the Metro stop in Foggy Bottom. We loved the River Inn and will stay there again when visiting DC.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

be sure to stop at Trader Joe's a bit north of the River Inn and the Safeway south in the Watergate Hotel lower level for shopping needs. We picked up groceries for our family the very first day and it saved us money our entire week. There is also a 7-Eleven around the corner off I street for convenience foods.

Great anniversary weekend

This hotel is great - very clean, on a quiet street in Foggy Bottom. It's far enough away from the crowds but close enough for easy access. The staff were excellent. We had a small problem with our bathroom sink and it was fixed immediately. The restaurant on site was very good and fairly priced. Our room came equipped with a small full service kitchen. Although we didn't cook, we were able to enjoy snacks and a cup of tea in the evenings. We would recommend this to anyone visiting DC.
