Underrated

Check in was effortless and swift and I was upgraded to a king bed suite, a beautiful room with windows looking out toward Georgetown and toward the Watergate and the Kennedy Center. I had two meals in the restaurant and found the service and the food to be excellent. It's on a quiet side street in Foggy Bottom, just a short walk from the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro stop and the shops and restaurants around that hub. I had meetings at the Kennedy Center, so access was simple: a short walk, only.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

I flew into BWI and took an express bus from the airport to the Green Belt stop on the Metro Green Line. While I had some platform waits, the ride to near my hotel in Foggy Bottom was only about a half hour longer than the shuttle ride from the hotel to the airport, and a fourth of the price!

Really pleased I stayed here - work and touring around DC

The room was slightly tired looking, but was spotlessly clean, and exceedingly comfortable - big fridge and kitchenetter - and on the 8th floor had a great view out to the Potomac river in the distance. For me this was the perfect location from which to discover DC on foot, and the staff were there to help in any way possible. I would have liked the bar to stay open for guests after 10pm in the week, but no big deal. This street in Foggy Bottom is a quiet residential area, but a very short walk to the metro and a Whole Foods, and near Georgetown and in the other direction the whole of DC is very accessible. I was staying for work and pleasure, and this was the perfect base. Thanks to the staff for being genuine and being so helpful. Good solid free wifi too.

DC trip

It was nice, but had to pay for parking? It was the same most of the places we checked. They told us we could park on the street for free, but had to move the car before a certain time in the morning.

Great hotel in great neighborhood

The River Inn is a great place to stay and you get more for your money than other nicely located hotels. The hotel is less than a five minute walk to the Foggy Bottom / GWU metro station a short walk from Georgetown and about 15-20 minute walk to the Lincoln Memorial or the White House. Each room has a kitchenette (ours had a two-burner stove top, microwave, fridge and freezer, coffee maker, and dishes and utensils for two). Staff very friendly and very helpful.

Mother-Daughter get-away

Had another wonderful stay at The River Inn. Location is perfect for us: on the border of Georgetown, within walking distance to Metro and down the road from Trader Joe's. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are spacious. Nice to have a kitchen and a seating area. Bathroom is nice, too. Would stay here in a heartbeat...

Inspiring trip to DC

The only downfall was that I wanted the AC in the night but the system just blew hot air. The time of year was good however in that it wasn't hot outside and we didn't absolutely need it. The staff was super courteous opening doors and even going out of their way to assist with information.

Nice....but

When I fly to DC through Reagan I like to stay near Foggy Bottom. It is a convenient tube ride between this hotel and the airport or anywhere else near the metro. The rooms are fairly large especially for the price. My last stay however in December was difficult as I woke up one morning before a big meeting with no hot water. Luckily there is a kitchenette in the room so I boiled a pot of water and mixed it with some cold water and showered by pot. Lol. By late evening it had been repaired. While I know things happen the management should have done a bit more than an empty apology they should have provided a discount or some token as is customary. I would stay there again because it is comfortable and in a good location, but they need to work on some of the property issues.
