Quick D.C. visit

The staff at the Normandy could not have been more helpful. We left our bags with the desk when we arrived early at 9:30 AM and did the same at check out as we needed a place to store suitcases for our late flight out. That day the stormy weather deterred my husband from sightseeing. He spent a good part of the day in the comfortable lobby where staff doted on him.

Quirky but acceptable hotel

We got a great price on [...] (compared w/calling hotel and looking at other sites, but I wonder if this was their "special bargain room" because it was very small and inconvenient with a view of rooftop ventilation equipment. We soon found the bed very soft and uncomfortable, but when the thermostat failed the next day, we complained and got another room; an upgrade. Significantly larger and very comfortable bed! I understand the smaller room for less money, but the crummy bed?! Anyway, still a strange hotel; no dresser, no folder with hotel info or info about the TV channels. You know, the kind of stuff you see in any other hotel. Personally, I'd be willing to spend a little more for something else; but it would be hard to beat that initially deal we got from [...] for the crummy room!

Not where I stayed in the end...

[...] I didn't find out until arriving at The Normandy that my reservation had been switched to their sister property The Dupont Hotel. The change couldn't have made me happier, as The Dupont is incredible, easily the best hotel in my Washington, DC experience. Polite staff, sublime accomodations and the most comfortable bed anywhere. Budget questions aside, I'd choose to stay at The Dupont whenever business or pleasure takes me to DC again.

Great Location for the price

Great Hotel in an awesome location. We were able to park the car and just walk everywhere. Great food and sights all within minutes of the hotel. It was easy to get to the metro when needed. The room was small, but the bed and interior was appropriate and fun. Not sure yet what the speakers in the wall were for? I think because the hotel is relatively new, not all the things were hooked up. The only bother was the TV in which not all the channels did not work. Not a big thing for me since most of our time was spent outside exploring the city, but for a guy who needs to watch the playoffs..BIG deal. Just ended up watching it at some local bars instead. Definitely will stay there again if in town.

Enjoyable experience

The hotel was used as a place to sleep. it was restful and the staff extremely helpful. The Dupont Circle Metro station is about 6 blocks downhill and a steep climb when returning. The surrounding neighborhood is interesting and great for strolls but we didn't take advantage of this since we spent most of our time in the museums and visitors areas.

A delicious surprise

It had what I like best: There was no one out front; I met only the desk clerk. No noisy bell boy, no background music, no offer of valet parking. The basement parking garage was tricky; only space for about six cars and even though I am a skilled driver with a Nissan Sentra it took me a couple of reversals to maneuver into a parking space. It happened that another car was entering as I left and I had to scrape a mirror to get by. Hallways are narrow with low ceiling, but the hotel was exceptionally clean. I smelled no odors either of spices or of cover-ups. The room was small but cozy and all fittings were very modern. Wide screen TV but limited channel selection. Computer in the lobby and wireless internet included in the room, but I went to sleep and did not try it. (After all, I went there to sleep, not work.) Shower with full length door and plenty of room for 2. Sink was very wide and long but so shallow I had some difficulty rinsing my razor. The only sound I heard was a quiet ventilation. Window shades were easily operated and effective. I liked most that I checked in and was left alone. I hate expensive hotels where there always seems to be someone at my elbow attentive to my needs and comfort; yet when I sought help for parking my car to avoid an extra days charge for parking, the desk clerk told me how to find parking on the street and it worked. If I have reason to go to DC again I'll probably stay at this hotel.

Nice night at the Normandy

Cute! They make clean & lovely look easy. Took a while to figure out how to turn on some of the lamps in the room, a problem I have never encountered in my life! But I would characterize this as more of a quirk than anything else. A lovely, lovely place to wake up in! Decor is an appealing mix of traditional and contemporary design: toile on the walls, but great use of color including sophisticated neutrals and a very contemporary, unfussy and pleasing look overall.

A nice surprise

Never stayed here but was pleasantly surprised. It's a little out of the way but a good location. The lobby and breakfast room was very nice. The corridors need to be recarpeted and painted but the room was great. Clean, modern, well-lit, large flat screen TV, great bathroom. Compared to others I've stayed in this was a good choice. I'll go back.
