My review of Melrose Hotel
My card to open the door did not work properly and I needed staff to reset the card every time I went in and out--this was very unacceptable. They came up to my room each time but it should have been fixed. I needed assistance getting into my room about six times over three days. The location worked well for me but I do not think I would consider staying here again. The last time management came to open the door they were more annoyed and not at all apologetic.

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED
When I arrived, the hotel didn't have my reservation and made one for me then at a higher price (which I didn't know until the next morning). The hotel was OK but not what I expected for the price. The bed, the pillows and the linens were not very high quality; the room furnishing antiquated; the bath not modernized. I wouldn't book there again in spite of the good location.

Melrose
Came with two luggages. Checked in and ran to the luggage elevator to escape 5-steps of stairs. I was asked not use the elevator. Nobody offered help to carry my luggages over the steps. RUDE! Modernization? Putting flat-screen TV is not a modernization. That hotel needs overall modernization esp. bathrooms. Moldy rusty bathrooms. Online pictures are deceiving.

Great Location - Poor quality room
Air conditioning didn't work - hotel's solution a fan. Short circuited lamp and loose fixtures on sink - no action. Service staff was friendly and courteous. Management needs work.

Many good restaurants close-by in Geargetown. La Perla for first-rate Italian, Seacatch for excellant seafood, and The Guards for lunch.

Disappointing stay!
Staff could not find our reservation when we got there. They finally found it after about 30 minutes of searching which was a bit disgruntling. The bathroom was not clean. Towels were dirty and bathtub did not drain. This is not a hotel I will consider staying in again in Georgetown. On a positive note, the valet staff was very friendly and helpful!. Not a good example for the Melrose hotels that are usually first class.

Would recommend, but construction underway
Part of the hotel is being renovated and the workmen start at 7:00AM. You can hear them slaming doors and echos throughout the building. After the first night, we requested a new room further away from the chaos. The frontdesk staff were very nice, but they should have been more proactive from the start of our stay. In addition, I found the restaurant to be very expensive the the wait staff to be very disengaged. That said, I would return to The Melrose Hotel once the renovation is complete. It is nice, clean, well located and comfortable.

nice location, not 4 star
The Melrose used to be my favorite DC hotel. Unfortunately, it needs upgrading. The carpeting in our room was shabby and dirty, the shelf over the sink was falling off the wall,(nothing would stay on it because of the slope) and you couldn't get into the closet with someone at the sink; not enough lighting in the room, only one bedside table. Get the picture?

There are several great spots for a quick breakfast in the immediate area. On 23 and Mass. there is a Bread and Chocolate - great breakfast, Next door to the hotel is a Marvelous Market, great for light breakfast or quick lunch. And on 25 (1 block from hotel) there is a Trader Joes - wine, cheese, etc.

Not bad, not super good either
The Melrose is a decent place to stay. Nice location if you are visiting someone at GW, going to the Kennedy Center and Georgetown is a decent, but do-able walk if the weather is good. Probably not a 4star but it seems a lot of hotels in DC are overrated. The service was great-nice people work there. The room was good, decent bathroom, shower was ok, tub a little worn down. Bad pillows-which might seem like a litte thing until you try and sleep. Overall-I'd recommend the Melrose if you can get a good deal on the price.

Long walk from hotel
You can walk to the Mall from the hotel, rather then wait 45 minutes for the $30.00 double decker tour bus.
