Good for business travel

The Melrose Hotel has a good location. I felt safe in the neighborhood. There is a public library across the street. Good food blocks away from there but there is a convenience store on one side and a Catholic church on the other. The room was very nice, clean, neat, well decorated and the hotel in general is very well maintained. Everything was functioning properly. There was a desk and a chair, other two chairs, the bathroom was separate from the vanity area and sink with a long counter. The closet had a good size for hanging clothes and they provided two suitcase stands. The staff is corteous and helpful. I have no complaints.

The suite was spacious and very upscale. The location is great for my business activities. It is a quite neighborhood, but very accessible to all DC attractions.

Very close to grocery and liquor stores. I could eat and drink at the hotel rather than finding restaurants.

OK for the Washington DC area

The hotel staff was attentive but the valet parking was problematic due to the small drop-off area. The $38 nightly charge exceeded average area rates and it an avergage of nearly 10 minutes to retrieve your car. The room size was great and comfortable. The continental breakfast was upscale with waiters and cloth napkins.

very, very nice

This was the nicest Washington hotel that I have stayed at while there on business. The lobby bar was incredibly nice and atmospheric; the rather large room was tastefully decorated and quiet. The one thing that would have made my stay better would have been if the Melrose did not charge for the use of the computers in its "business center."

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

When I arrived, the hotel didn't have my reservation and made one for me then at a higher price (which I didn't know until the next morning). The hotel was OK but not what I expected for the price. The bed, the pillows and the linens were not very high quality; the room furnishing antiquated; the bath not modernized. I wouldn't book there again in spite of the good location.

Melrose

Came with two luggages. Checked in and ran to the luggage elevator to escape 5-steps of stairs. I was asked not use the elevator. Nobody offered help to carry my luggages over the steps. RUDE! Modernization? Putting flat-screen TV is not a modernization. That hotel needs overall modernization esp. bathrooms. Moldy rusty bathrooms. Online pictures are deceiving.
