Neoclassical splendor in refined capital setting

The prestigious Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel began as the setting for the Presidential Inaugural Ball for Calvin Coolidge upon opening in 1925. The smart neoclassical building matches the quality of the lavishly appointed interior, complete with plush furnishings, chandeliers and murals by New Deal era artist Edward Laning. Renovated in 2011, The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel now boasts a retail emporium including upscale English clothing boutique Thomas Pink and a choice of venues for dining or sipping an elegant martini.

Beautiful & comfortable

This hotel could not have been more accomodating. I have a son with special needs so I had a lot of special requests. They accommodated all my requests and made sure we were comfortable. The room was larger than most hotels & it was near public transportation. I highly recommend this hotel!

An old hotel in fairly good location

Pros: good location, right off metro station. Fair price for the value. Cons: don't ever try to rent a car for your trip. Parking is expensive, street parking is almost impossible over night. Metro is very convenient, don't bother with a car. Room is decent size, but it's an older hotel, it's hard to not notice. Shower has small stream of water. Hot water is not stable - during 9-10pm you may not even get enough hot water coming out of your shower. Oh, did I mention there is no water provided, and there is no venting machine. So if you want to have a bottle of water or any soft drink after 10, good luck! The closest Seven Eleven is 2 and half blocks away! Tip: you maybe score some free bottle water in the hotel gym.

Nice place

The hotel was nice. It was over booked when we checked in. Traveled with three kids and my wife. They gave us two rooms with king beds to accommodate us would of been nicer if they gave us a two bedroom suit that was empty just down the hall

Nice Hotel / Good Location

Nice centrally located hotel on the metro line - lots of Washington sites visited without any need for a taxi. Clean and Friendly.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

Lots of high end eateries and sub shops. Not much of a middle ground for dining options within a walking distance. Again - key to have the metro as many fine choices are within a stop or two.

Nice rooms but a little past its prime

This was a return to the Mayflower for me but it had been a while since my last visit. It is still a grand old hotel but the food service has declined significantly. Not only was it expensive but the quality was poor. Having said that, the hotel is well located for sightseeing and the rooms are comfortable.

disappointed

Mayflower is a great historical building that desperately needs some updating. The entrance and lobby area is grand, however, the rooms smell of cheap cleaning products which we had to air out for hours. The furnitures are all worn and outdated. Sadly, the rooms are a dump. The only good thing about the hotel is the location and the comfort of the bed. Also, the staff other than those at the front desk are all grumpy! I've stayed at the Mayflower several years back, but it has downgraded big time. I would only give this hotel 3 stars at the most.

Gorgeous lobby, pedestrian rooms

I had a pleasant enough stay at the Mayflower, and staff are extraordinarily professional and responsive. The lobby and common areas are spectacular. My room was a letdown by comparison. It was comfortable and sufficiently spacious, but very generic. My most significant complaint is the very dim lighting, with one very dim entry light and one lamp to illuminate the entire room.

Convenient, clean and courteous hotel!

Very elegant lobby and clean rooms. The beds were remarkable. Best sleep I've had in a long time. Courteous staff and clean rooms. Didn't eat at the hotel so no opinion here. Several nice stores right across from hotel: Gap, Victoria's Secret and Ann Taylor. Within walking distance from the major museums: Air/Space and History, Art and Aquarium. I wore sneakers the whole time and felt great. Cab only about $8 to Chinatown. Nice experience there. Hotel gym very nice and clean. Headphones provided for guests there. Nice machines with tv's on every elliptical/stepper. Would stay again.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

You would be most comfortable in sneakers for walking although cabs were not very expensive at all. Dining very good at Mccormick & Schmick's close by and in Chinatown (sushi restaurants).

Good location - weekend getaway

Great access to Metro but not a ton of restaurants/nightlife since it's in the biz district.
