great location; great price; nice people

great location for amazingly low price; a little dingy looking, and very small room, but clean; free wireless; flat screen TV; free breakfast; friendly helpful staff; unfortunately the elevator was out of order, but staff were eager to help with bags

not great but cheap

it was very small and seemed a little dirty. The walls were paper thin- I heard someone's entire phone conversation. The positives are that is was very cheap, close to dupont circle and the metro, and it got the job done (provided a place to sleep at night).

Don't Pay Over $60/night

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The first night, they put us in this room (I think it was #110), which was no bigger than a trunk of a car. It was so small, we could not stand next to each other at the same time; one of us needed to be in the bathroom or outside the room. I immediately went to the front desk to ask for an upgrade and I was told there weren't any. So we stayed there, NO SLEEP with the sound of people walking & talking by the room, a guy using his hair dryer in the room right next to ours at 4 AM, so and so forth. Next day, they were finally able to upgrade us to a king-size room for a $30 upgrade fee. This room was great in size, quiet, but just when we thought that it was perfect, we found a used CONDOM in the bathroom trash. In short, you cannot beat the location, but don't pay more than $60 a night - it's just not worth it.

Great location but...

Well the staff were great, the rooms were very clean and the breakfasts were good. Unfortunately for my partner and I, we are nearing the end of our overseas holiday in America and have two bags of luggage each. The elevator was out of order and we were on the 3rd floor. We stayed in a standard room which consists of a bed (that the springs no longer work in) and about a metre of space around the base and one side of it to put your luggage, which for one travel-light person would have been fantastic! Haha. On the sencond night of our stay there was a pipe burst and it "rained" out of the ceiling in our bathroom (which is no one's fault). So we were then transferred to another room which was bigger thankfully! Which is a much better size if you want to be able to see the floor after you've brought your luggage in. Overall, the hotel was comfortable and clean and friendly, and we'd stay there again (but pick a bigger room!). Great location too.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The District Hotel is right next to 14th st. If you walk south down it for about 10 minutes, you will reach the mall (many museums, the White House, all the monuments, etc). Also on "P" st, which is parallel of the st the hotel is on (to the north) there is a Whole Foods, Starbucks, CVS and many restaurants.

Great Location, Nice Staff, Tiny Room

Location was great, all DC attractions were within walking or transit distance. Staff at District was friendly and willing to help. Breakfast was good. Wireless internet did not work for me, I think it was made for Macintosh wannabes (PCs) not the real thing. Our room was tiny, only a couple feet worth of walkway around the bed.

The best dining was in ethnic (Afghan, Thai, Indian, etc.) restaurants nearby.

The Basics and More

We were very happy with our stay at the District Hotel. It was close to restaurants on P Street and well within walking distance of Dupont Circle. We knew our room would be small, but all the essentials were there. A comfortable lobby is more important to us than huge spaces in the room. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly.

great stay at the District Hotel

This was one of the friendliest comfortable hotels I've ever stayed at. It was almost like being at home. Definitely will come back again. The room was small but I knew that so it was not a big deal for me - it was comfortable, had a clock and TV. The breakfast was great (including waffles)! (another cost saver for those extra vacation days tacked on to the work meeting).

Great location, postage-stamp rooms

Given the tiny room size (barely big enough for a double bed), it would be irrelevant to complain about things like space for luggage. The hotel is well-located and the staff is professional. We got what we paid for and there are a variety of bars, restaurants, delis, and convenience stores nearby.

Pay the extra........

The best thing I could say about this hotel was that the staff was nice. It was close (but not really close about a 15 min. walk to 17th Street) to Dupont Circle. Other than that it was loud, really loud. I heard my neighbors next door and above. Granted I got the room right behind the check-in desk so of course I heard every conversation in the lobby. The rooms where fairly clean but old and dingy. The rooms were dark. Overall I wish I had forked over the extra cash for a nicer place to stay.
