Fantastic

The State Plaza Hotel in Washington D.C. was perfect! Perfect location, only a few blocks from Vietnam Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. Want to visit the White House? Just exit the State Plaza Hotel and turn left - just a few blocks to the White House... On the same street! When you check in? wait for the bell desk to help you. There are a few steps up to the elevator. Perfect room! When we walked into our room we were so excited to see two double beds and a full kitchen! Beautiful vanity dressing room area just outside the bathroom! And I have to say this was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! And the pillows were..Well perfect! And after long day of walking through our Nation?s Capitol it was really relaxing to come ?home? to. We had one dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was very tasty and pleasant. Next door was a CVS pharmacy that was perfect for those little things you need while traveling. Including a good snack and soup after a long (late) day. But don?t take those granola bars to the Capitol, they will make you throw them away. Have a wonderful stay at the State Plaza Hotel, we did!

Excellent staff

The front desk and gentlemen greeting were wonderful and very knowledgeable. This was our first trip to DC, and we had lots of questions. The room was wonderful. We had a plaza suite, which enabled my sons to stay up until all hours, while I comfortably slept in the other room. Room service was disappointing, as the menu was very limited, very expensive, and not all that great!

Friendly hotel staff

I chose the State Plaza Hotel in Washington DC mainly for its location (just a couple blocks from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Lincoln Memorial). The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. One day they took the extra time to explain the bus and metro system to us. You must learn how to use the metro or bus, taxis are extremely expensive. We rode the bus up to the Washington National Cathedral for $1.25 a piece round trip (with bus transfer). Cab fare would have been $14.00 one way!!! The rooms were quite spacious and immaculate! Yes, some of the furniture was dated but I liked the overall feeling of an older hotel. Rooms were very solid, quiet and you had the feeling that you were the only people there. NOW THAT'S QUIET! Loved the tile in the bathroom and the solid fixtures, never had to wait for hot water! Kitchen had microwave, stove top, refrigerator, glasses, plates, and silverware for 4 people. Maid service was excellent! A convenient CVS drug store next door for drinks, candy, magazines, etc. Breakfast was limited to toast, juice, fruit but that was all we needed. Restaurants are about a 5 block walk as well as the Metro but get used to it, that's all you do in DC... walk, walk, walk! I'll bet we walked about 3 - 4 miles a day. It was nice to have this grand old hotel to be our home base for our 6 days in DC. Thanks to the staff of the State Plaza Hotel for making our 1st time in DC so enjoyable!

Exactly what we needed

My husband and I have severe food allergies, which makes it hard for us to travel, since eating out is usually a challenge. This hotel had a full kitchen with each room, for only a slight bit more cost. This meant that we could bring and cook our own food -- which saved our health and our money! We could walk to the mall to see all the sights, and when we didn't want to walk that far, a metro stop was four blocks away which would take us right to where we wanted to go. We highly recommend!

Huge rooms with great views, very friendly staff

I go to DC for business at least once a month. This was my first stay at the State Plaza Hotel, and I will definitely stay there again in the future. The location is ideal for anyone with business in downtown (it's an easy walk to many locations in northwest dc, and close to the Foggy Bottom metro station). It's also very close to many tourist attractions (especially the Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam, Korean and WWII memorials, the White House and the Washington Monument). I had a view of the Washington Monument and the Capitol from my room. I also had a full kitchen with all the necessities, which made my extended stay pleasant (I could have cereal in the morning while I watched the Today show, it was just like home!). Although the decor is older, it's very clean and comfortable. It's also quite large. The staff is very approachable and helpful. It was the best hotel I've stayed at in DC (or Virginia for that matter).

Great Hotel for a Great Price

My family and I went to Washington D.C. for the Fourth of July. This hotel was a few blocks from a subway station. Also, fairly close to Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check-in well before the scheduled time. The room included a kitchen area with fridge, stove, cups, plates, silverware, etc. so if you are on a tight budget you can save money by eating in. Although, part of the fun is searching for different/new places to eat. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but we did not try it. The beds were comfy, bathroom a good size, not real noisy. Overall, an excellent place to stay. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family! Right outside the hotel is a CVS Pharmacy for extra needs while visiting. Not a lot of restaurants in close proximity to the hotel it is in the George Washington University area. Very pretty/safe area.

Make sure to go to the zoo. It is not close to the hotel, so make sure you have your walking shoes on. The Old Post Office was nice to walk through, but would not recommend eating there. Do not waste your time at the National Aquarium. There are MUCH better museums to see and most are free admission. You can't beat that.

Very friendly, great customer service

Great place, good location. Within walking distance of the Mall and monuments. My only complaint was the dining room offered very limited service and options during Thanksgiving Holiday. Customer service was great, very knowledgeble staff.

Such a Deal!

I was hoping for a hotel room that was clean, affordable, and in a safe neighborhood. What I got was a one bedroom apartment, that was clean, safe, and a steal! I was in DC for a week's vacation and on a budget. With a full kitchen that came with everything except a oven (although it did come with a microwave oven), I was able to save a ton of money by stocking up at the nearby Trader Joe's and eating in most of the time. The kitchen came stocked with dishes and utensils that the maid service cleaned everyday along with making up the bed, cleaning the bathroom, an tidying up. The hotel service was excellent.

There is a liquor store and a pharmacy that carries a lot of food items right next door. Also, the rail line is only 4 blocks away, so I didn't need to rent a car to get around.

Great value

The state plaza hotel was a great deal for the money. The room has a lot of room with a refrigerator, small stove and small table for eating, along with a sitting area for dressing/getting ready. The hotel has a CVS next door and is 5-6 blocks from walking down to the White house.
