Fun Weekend Spot

Stayed there this weekend with a friend just to get out of our respective towns. Great location, close to a ton of bars at DuPont Circle and walking distance to most everything (assuming you are okay walking a couple miles). Room was clean, wish I remember the dude's name at the front desk but he was cool and upgraded us to a suite. Pro Tip: There are more suites than regular rooms so that probably happens often. I'm not cheap but I'm not rich either and the price point (about $150/nt for Fri & Sat night) was very reasonable for what we got, largely due to the location and the fact that most hotels in the same area were considerably more than that if you wanted two beds. First world problems: what's up with all the decorative pillows, you guys? There were like 6 of them and only 2 real pillows, I had a tower of those things next to the bed.

My review of St. Gregory Luxury Hotel and Suites

The St. Gregory Luxury Hotel and Suites in Washington, D.C. is a very tastefuly appointed hotel. My standard room was spacious and new in appearance. The Hotel's location is quite convenient--a reasonable walk to Georgetown and to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station.

Clean; horrible front desk staff

Arrived at 12pm (3 hours before technical check-in) and told room would be ready soon (by 2pm). I came back at 3:30pm; room not ready; told a little while longer. 4:30pm room not ready; told them it was inexcusable; asked how i would be compensated; told with nothing. Front desk people have no idea about sales or much professionalism / insuring customer satisfaction or loyalty. I demanded to talk to manager (he was in a meeting?). I called the desk from the lobby! and demanded a room; finally received room at 5pm. Manager still apparently busy; they later send up two bottles of cheap water. This is nothing close to what a 4 star hotel is supposed to be. I will never stay there again or recommend any else staying there.

good location for us

The St. Gregory was a good-enough hotel in the right area for us. Two bones to pick: Very noisy on the lower floors in front. We were awakened several times by emergemcy vehicles in the wee hours. Also, the bathroom did not have a sufficient vanity top for our things, and I would have appreciated a magnifying mirror. The hotel and room were very clean and the staff courteous. The breakfast was rather expensive, but of good quality and variety.

GOOD HOTEL FOR A SHORT STAY

I FELT VERY WELCOMED AT THE HOTEL THE DOORMAN, AND THE 2 FRONT DESK PERSONS INCHARGE WERE EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT, MY ROOM WAS GOOD ALTHOUGH IT HAD A KITCHENETTE FULLY EQUIPPED WITH STOVE, OVEN, MICROWAVE FRIDGE ETC. I CAN?T IMAGINE SOMEONE PREPARING MEALS IN A ROOM WITH NO WINDOWS TO VENTILATE ODORS. THE KITCHENETTE IS LOCATED BETWEEN A SMALL LIVING ROOM AND THE BEDROOM, I WOULD RATHER HAVE MORE SPACE FOR THE BEDROOM AR A LARGER BATHROOM. LOCATION IS GOOD AND AS I SAID, THE STAFF IS EXCELENT, RESTAURANT AND BAR A LITLLE DARK, NO MUSIC AND SLOW SERVICE ALTHOUGH FRIENDLY. FOOD IS OK AND PRICES ON THE HIGH RANGE FOR THE QUALITY THAT IS OFFERED.

Very friendly staff

We were both impressed with the the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. From our check-in when they held our bags for us and directed us to the Metro to the check-out when they called us a cab, they were spot on. We couldn't have asked for a more attentive team of professionals. The restaurant food was excellent with entrees that were more pricey than typical Minnesota hotel fare, but at the same time more exotic. The room was elegant and comfortable. I was especially impressed with the big bathroom and semi-sunken shower. The only issue I had was that the hair dryer didn't work. The location was ideally between downtown and Georgetown and so close to the metro. I hope to stay there again on my next trip to DC!

If you like Indian food, it's a 2-block walk to the Bombay (something - it's in the directory at the hotel) on K Street. This is the best Indian food I've ever had!! Again, friendly and attentive staff. White linen tablecloth with traditional Indian decor. Superb!
